@kathleenramm There were, actually. I felt like they were all developed pretty well. The mc wasn’t my favorite character… he’s kinda an awkward teen, tho that does play into his character arc. There’s some pretty good side characters tho 🙃
Anyway, yeah I would definitely recommend it. I’m re-reading the series (The Reckoner’s Trilogy), and Steelheart (book 1) is very much a favorite of mine. 🙂
November 14, 2020 at 12:32 pm in reply to: What’s the most recent book/movie you read/watched that has inspired you? #87246Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson. Fantastic plot. Very gripping. Also got me excited about world-building again XD
October 23, 2020 at 7:54 pm in reply to: What’s a story idea that you want to write but haven’t yet? #86535Since I was eleven I’ve wanted to write a series of novels about the same cast of characters, but in each book they’re placed in a different world/genre. So for instance, book 1 could be a sci-fi world, book 2 could be contemporary, book 3 fantasy, etc, etc, etc. I think there’s probably stuff like that out there (can’t think of examples; anyone?), but I’ve always wanted to try it. Tho… seeing as I thought it up when I was eleven, who knows if it’s actually a good idea XD I feel like, if handled the right way, it could turn out quite well. But it could also be rather boring >.< It’s a little hard to drop the idea tho because I’ve already created several of the characters and am kinda attached. 🙃I have some ideas for the novels (plot-wise), but nothing concrete, so I suppose I’m waiting on inspiration as well 😉
@leon-fleming Thank you!
The name sounds familiar…I think I remember seeing you around SE. I don’t think we met tho. And
no it’s not a secret I said it earlieractually yes it’s a secret. 😉As for languages… Japanese, mostly. Some Spanish. A little German. 🙂 Yeah I actually haven’t run in a while either 🙄(I blame life). So you play piano too? How long have you been playing? No, I have not read ND Wilson’s works. They have been recommended to me a few times now tho, so I probably should. 🙃 Do you have a favorite of his? No, not published. *sigh* And I mostly write by hand. It’s too hard sitting in front of a computer for long periods of time. What about you?
Thanks for the welcome 😃
@gracie-j Haha, you two XD
@devastate-lasting Well I would say I don’t mind a little violence and whatnot as long as the overarching theme of the movie promotes a good message…Less would probably be better tho 🙃 If you couldn’t tell by my reading preferences, I do generally prefer childrens (why I love Studio Ghibli, haha). And I do try to be careful about what I watch (sorry that probably makes it difficult >.<). I know a lot of anime is more mature. Thanks for sharing those tho, I’ll check them out 😉
@lewilliams Hello!Nice! I’ve been doing orchestra for around three-ish years now. Started as a sophomore I think. I love playing Irish/Celtic music in orchestra! It’s some of the only music where the cellos get something interesting to play XD How about you?
Great! I hope you enjoy reading it 😃 I’ve never read Series of Unfortunate Events, but I’ve heard a lot about it. Have you ever read Wingfeather Saga? (Another favorite of mine 🙃)
@devastate-lasting I would love recommendations, actually–I’m always a little unsure about animes I can watch (hard to know what’s safe). I’ll def. look into the ones you mentioned tho 🙂

@devastate-lasting Ahhh cool! I’ll look into those. Yeah, Studio Ghibli is almost the only Anime I’ve watched (Anime is still a fairly new interest for me). What’s “Your Name” about?
@gracie-j I think I’m glad I’m in the middle… I still have responsibilities as an older sibling, but there’s a lot I didn’t have to deal with as well XD And I do have some rather nice older siblings 😉 You sound like you would make a fantastic big sister tho! I can’t imagine it’s an easy job XD
And thanks! I appreciate the encouragement 😊
@kathleenramm Glad you like them!@gracie-j I’m third to youngest– most of my siblings are all grown up and gone now. I’ve always wondered what it would be like to be the oldest 🤔
Hm, just maybe you’ve convinced me to watch GWtW again 😉 I’ll admit, historical romance is not something I normally read or watch, but I like to give things a try 🙃
Actually… hm. I don’t think I’ve really drawn bunnies much before 🤔 Favorites would probably be… different types of birds, butterflies, sometimes horses. Tbh, I don’t have a lot of patience either 😆 That’s probably why I’ve never finished any of the novels I’ve started 😝
Well, it’s been a couple years so I’m trying to remember specifics, but I thought it was a pretty original idea, and the storyline was good, characters were solid. Honestly, I can’t really say all that well 😆 I remember enjoying it at the time, but at the same time, it wasn’t really that memorable 😆 Like I said, I definitely prefer her non-fiction works. Why, did you not like it?
Yeah, it’s the same way for me. I need something to go by, but I try to make it different enough to be my own 😉 Animals can be difficult, but they’re really quite fun. If only I’d practice more tho… It’s hard finding time these days 🙃
Well I like this one… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxoSMcg3F20&list=LLzzW6DFF0mrsP5dcs6JQVgg&index=8 They have some good covers too, tho I haven’t listened to too many of their songs yet.
@devastate-lasting Ah yeah, I understand that. My sister didn’t finish watching it for the same reason. It’s… very real. No, I don’t believe I have. Are they similar to the Studio Ghibli films?
@nova21 Hey Ella! Nice to meet you 😄
It’s E Grace. I haven’t done anything on there in quite a while tho 🙃 I’m liking KP since it seems to be a smaller community (at least for the moment 😉)
Hope you enjoy it here!
@kathleenramm Sounds like we like a lot of the same things 🙃
Well I’ve only read one of KM Weiland’s fiction books so far… Dreamlander… but I thought it was good. The main ones I appreciate tho are her books on writing. They’ve really helped me a lot 🙂
Ah that’s neat your sisters had an opportunity like that! My sisters and I have always wanted to learn a language together so we could communicate and no one else would know what we were saying 😆 I get that tho! I’ve watched some Japanese shows, and I am excited for the day when I’ll be able to understand them on my own 🙂 Oh so have you ever listened to Hoppípolla? My friend introduced me to their music and– despite never having liked Korean pop before 😉– I really like it! (Plus they have some fantastic cello 😉)
Nice, I like drawing characters too! I try drawing my own characters sometimes, but it always turns out better if I’m copying something 🙃 Animals are a favorite of mine as well.
Thanks I’m sure we will!
@gracie-j Yep 7 (full) siblings! 6 sisters, 1 brother. Large families do seem less common these days. What number sibling are you?
You’re right, I’m not familiar with those 🙃 I’ll have to look those up 😉
Haha, yes, I could quote Princess Bride all day. 😅 I vaguely remember seeing Gone With the Wind… probably ten or so years ago… It’s been a while 🙃 And yes PotC is great! I’ve only seen the first one tho.
I will definitely call you up…ten years from now, when Jerry finally calls me back. If I can just get a producer… 😆Haha, yes, please do 😆
Favorite thing to sketch…Hmm… Probably animals. I draw people too sometimes– mostly characters– but I’m not as good. Flowers are fun! I wish I was better at them 😉
No worries! You ask some great questions 😄
@devastate-lasting Nice! Yeah Grave of the Fireflies is a little slow… I almost cried at the end tho, it’s so sad! (Also idk know which version you were watching, but I probably wouldn’t watch the English version again. Setsuko’s voice was wrong, and the dialogue just wasn’t as good, imo.) Anyway. I could talk Studio Ghibli for hours XD
@lewilliams Thank you! Excited to be here 😄 *high fives back* How long have you been doing orchestra?
I have a few favorite middle grade fiction books, but Mysterious Benedict Society has to be one of the best 😉 Do you have any favorites?
Japanese has been one of my favorite languages for a while. I’m not totally sure why I first decided to pick it up, tbh 😅 But the more I’ve learned, the more I’ve been fascinated with the language and the culture surrounding it 🙂
@kathleenramm Thank you! Ooh, sounds wonderful 😄
Well rn I’m working on Japanese… Actually have been since I was eleven… I just haven’t been too consistent with it, unfortunately 😅 It really requires a lot of dedication! Spanish and Korean are ones I’d definitely be interested in learning as well 🙃 What inspired you to learn Korean?
I’ve been playing cello since I was… thirteen?… so I guess four years now. I agree, it’s hard to find fellow cellists! Do you still play violin?
Those are actually two I haven’t seen, believe it or not. XD My sisters and I are planning on watching Spirited Away this week tho 😉
I like a wide variety of puzzles– From logic problems, to jigsaw, to Rubik’s cube. 🙂 And as for art, yeah, I mostly sketch, but I occasionally will paint too. Do you draw or paint?
@gracie-j *after regaining her balance, heartily shakes your hand in return* The pleasure is all mine, of course. 😉 Yay for homeschool! There really are a lot us, aren’t there? It seems like a lot of the people on SE were homeschooled, too. 🙃
To answer your questions…:
1. Have I finished any books? No, no I have not. Unfortunately. I have been working on one for like… 5 years now tho XD
2. So I’m not sure how much I can tell you about my WIP (it’s a little hard to explain 😉)… But it is a fantasy/sci-fi/adventure story all wrapped into one, and it involves siblings (something I’m very learned about, having seven myself 😛), revenge, magic that isn’t magic, and an entire history of a people that was fabricated. We’ll leave it at that for now 🙃
3. A few of my favorite books would probably be… Mysterious Benedict Society, The Book Thief, Wingfeather Saga, Narnia, The Lamplighter, LotR, and The Reckoners Trilogy, to name just a few. 😉 What are your favorites?
4. Favorite authors: Trenton Lee Stewart, KM Weiland, Brandon Sanderson, Andrew Peterson, of course CS Lewis and JRR Tolkien 😉 , Louisa May Alcott, Elizabeth Prentiss, Maria S Cummins, Annette Lyster, G. A. Henty… What about you?
5. Favorite movies? Hm… HTTYD, Tangled, Wreck-it-Ralph, of course most any Studio Ghibli film 😉, Inception, LotR, Mulan, a lot of the old Danny Kaye movies XD, Princess Bride!!!!!, All of the Kendrick brother movies except Overcomer, The Adventures of Tin Tin, and… wow, that sounds like a strange list when put together XD How about you?
6. Historical middle grade fiction is great! I know I loved Dear America/American Girl books as a younger girl, as well as G.A. Henty’s works. It’s a fun way to learn about history 😄
7.
Orchestra, you say? I’ll have to see if you can join the orchestra working on the soundtrack for the upcoming theatrical release of the film based upon my debut novelThat sounds fantastic. XD Please do let me know when you hold auditions 😉
8. As for art, I mostly do sketches, but I started experimenting with watercolors maybe was it last year? And so I’m slowly improving with those as well 🙂 I’m hoping to work with clay at some point too, but we’ll see 😉 Do you enjoy any particular art forms?
Whew 😅 Finally got through them all! Nice meeting you Gracie!
