@emberlynn Ah, I see. Well, I’m not exactly sure what kind of content you would be sensitive to, haha, because Ghibli is essentially the Disney of Japan. I myself tend to lean towards seinen anime (for older males) because of the plot and stuff, but I also enjoy shoujo anime (for younger girls). In the latter category I would recommend Your lie in…[Read more]

Lin replied to the topic Tell Me About Your WIP! in the forum General Writing Discussions 5 years, 7 months ago
@seekjustice I don’t remember if I’ve ever talked with you about my WIPs, but I’ve got two going for now:
1) My way-too-long thing about Magic Users and different worlds and stuff like that. Don’t really want to sum it up right now, but the arc I’m about to go into is about one summer by the ocean, including a strange cafe, mysterious…[Read more]

@emberlynn Nice! If you ever want any series recommendations, just ask XD Your Name is a fantasy romance about a guy and a girl who switch bodies. I won’t say too much more, otherwise it’ll be spoiled.

@emberlynn Shinkai is actually a fan of Ghibli, haha. His movie “Children Who Chase Lost Voices” is by far the most similar one to theirs. But more often he makes fantasy romance movies, like “Your Name” and more recently, “Weathering With You”. If you haven’t watched Your Name yet I highly recommend it! It’s renowned for being a masterpiece of an…[Read more]

Lin replied to the topic Do you listen to music while you write? What kind of music do you listen to? in the forum Topic of the Week 5 years, 7 months ago
@kathleenramm I like to listen to music when doing anything. Helps me focus a lot.
Usually when I write I’ll put on whatever it is I’m into at the moment. Ranges a lot…
But more often than not I’ll open up my “Writing stuffs” playlist on Youtube, which consists of a lot of mixes, like chill, or trap, or chillstep, or swing…

@emberlynn It wasn’t even that it was slow (I usually don’t mind slow things) it’s just with WWII and watching children suffering for a couple of hours…I couldn’t really stomach it. But, yeah, I could definitely talk about Studio Ghbili for hours. Have you watched any of Makoto Shinkai’s works?

@emberlynn Hello!
I’ve been playing piano maybe 11, 12 years? Most of my life haha
Ooh, I love those! My top favorites are Spirited Away and Howl’s Moving Castle. I’ve watched almost all of theirs, I think, except for Grave of the Fireflies. I tried watching that twice but couldn’t get past 20 minutes.

@gracie-j The only one I can really think of right now is: What is good grammar? How do you use it?
So maybe compile a list of common grammar mistakes or something. Good grammar can really boost writing quality.

@emberlynn Hello! Nice to meet you!
I’m on SE as well, hehet.
Ooh, I like puzzles and piano and languages as well. And I also love Studio Ghibli! What are your favorite films of theirs?

Lin replied to the topic Are you and outliner or a pantser? in the forum Topic of the Week 5 years, 7 months ago
@kathleenramm I guess planning out chapters gives me a to-do list and a word count goal. I find that it’s easier to do things with a checklist, and it makes me more motivated every time I finish a scene.

@kathleenramm I’ve got such a rigid writing schedule for myself that I don’t actually have the time or brain cells to sit down and map out every single specific thing. So I don’t really call myself a plotter.
I have a very specific ritual when starting a new work: I open the notebook, leave the first sheet blank, and then on the second page I…[Read more]

@kathleenramm I know, right? Big Hero 6 is one of my favorite movies.
And yeah, Mustang definitely should have given her all those flowers. XD I wonder what he did with them afterwards…?

Lin replied to the topic Who is your Favorite Sidekick? What Made You Like Them So Much? in the forum Topic of the Week 5 years, 7 months ago
@kathleenramm Um. *instantly forgets every single book I’ve ever read about*. Sidekicks generally exist in adventure stories or superhero stories told from one person’s POV…or so I’ve noticed. As I don’t read those genres much…I suppose sidekick is also that third wheel character besides the MC and the girl.
But after Googling “sidekick” I…[Read more]

Lin replied to the topic Who is your Favorite Protagonist? What Made you Like them so Much? in the forum Topic of the Week 5 years, 8 months ago
@not-so-secret-secret-assassin A worthy protagonist indeed.
@kathleenramm Generally my favorite characters are always extremely minor ones that appear for two seconds, so… I guess I like Kousei Arima from Your lie in April. He’s a pianist, like me, and has a lot of quirks that I like. And he isn’t too much of anything, like being too dramatic,…[Read more]

@kathleenramm It’s just a regular town beach off of the Atlantic. It’s not the prettiest, but it does have it’s charms during sunset.

@gracie-j Nah, I don’t think that’s weird. In the same way, having a beautiful blue sky that stretches out for forever also seems to call out to my soul. Unfortunately, I guess I can only write about such places XD.
