@supermonkey42 Good point! Bullies don’t have to be boys. 🙂
@dekreel I can’t think of anything to add to what has already been said. They nailed it! Helped me, too.

@dekreel Tricky question. I have a bully in my current novel who plays a fairly small role, but it was hard to figure out how to write him without making him feel cheesy. This is what I’ve found
First, recognize that a lot of bully cliches are cliches for a reason. These things are true in real life, so they should be true in a book. This isn’t t…[Read more]

@dekreel I agree with @sam-kowal on the motives of a bully.
For a not-cliched bully, here are some ideas:
- The bully is actually very intelligent and uses that fact to bully others (maybe his parents think he should stop reading and such all the time and learn how to do something “useful” instead, so he bullies less intelligent kids to make him…

@dekreel Well, one cliche for bullies is that they are actually weak and pick on others to make themselves appear stronger. I once heard a really cool quote that was along the lines of “The weak hurt and bully. The strong protect.”
Other motives is that they are bored, they’re trying to strike out in rebellion, they truly hate the person they…[Read more]

@dekreel Oh, and… cliches. Personally I think having bullies be physically brawny/thuggish is a cliche, and also having them be unintelligent. They can be different from that

Sam Kowal replied to the topic The School Bully in the forum Characters 8 years, 5 months ago
@dekreel 😀 Hi
I think the motivations of a bully are usually a) to feel good about themselves and feel powerful and b) to try to put down anyone who might threaten them or make them feel bad.
This is because, I think for the most part bullying comes out of insecurity. Bullies are insecure about themselves, they don’t get enough love from…[Read more]

Hiya, everybody!
Okay, so I find myself making up these little poems about various ones of you. Thought you guys might like to read them.
@daeus here’s one for you
Crowned for his superlative nose,
Twenty two turtles wherever he goes,
Wise, funny, and inspiring,
Is our noble raspberry king!
@dragon-snapper here’s one about you

Okay, here’s one I wrote called “Home”.
verse 1
Wherever God has me, I will be home
Wherever I find myself, I’ll make it home
And as the winds that blow take me to places far and wide
I’ll find a home whetever I find you.
chorus
Home is not a building or a place
Home is a feeling of knowing you belong
Home is…[Read more]

@dekreel @alia Your songs are beautiful too!
I don’t play any instruments. I just sing. Sometime I’ll try to copy a song or two I have written on here if you like.

You know you’re a writer when a conversation with your family goes like this (after watching a well-written show):
My brothers: “I love this show! It’s so cool!”
Me: “Yes, the backstory is really awesome and their story/character arcs are very good. So is the character development. The writers of this show did a good job with the plot.”

Hi @dekreel,
I wanted to check in and see how things are going.
I saw one person signed up through your link so far. Great job!!!
One of the reasons I asked if you’d like to volunteer for this is because I could use some practice mentoring people through how to do this. So if it’s fine by you, I would really appreciate it if I could have a…[Read more]

Hiya, @daeus! It’s going pretty well. Thanks for checking in. 🙂 Good! That’s something. XD
So far I have only reached out to about four or five people. Mostly family and a couple friends. I did most of it over text messages, saying something like, “A friend of mine recently published his book, and I was wondering if you’d like to read it for…[Read more]

@celticcailin Hi! I love music, but I don’t write lyrics (I play cajon.)
I think @dekreel , @sam-kowal , and @alia write songs, though. (Tell me if I’m wrong, guys!)
Good luck on your music!

@celticcailin Hey there! I don’t write songs, and I don’t know anyone on the forum who does, so I’m going to tag a bunch of people who know a bunch of people, and maybe can help you locate advice you need.
