Joy started the topic "The Canterbury Tales…" and Other Stuff by Chaucer in the forum Book Discussions 6 years, 10 months ago
Seriously?! Chaucer is among the most beloved and most fascinating writers of all time, and no one has made a topic about him?!
So far, I have only read the Knight’s Tale (a story from The Canterbury Tales) for school, but I have to admit, it is an amazing poem. It’s so full of depth and truth for the Middle Ages. It’s one of the best things I…[Read more]

Grace H. started the topic Before the Sunrise – Missionary Kid Realistic Fiction in the forum Short Story Critiques 6 years, 10 months ago
Would anybody be willing to read and critique my latest short story?
It’s about a missionary kid who is struggling with letting go of people and embracing new friendships.
I’m hoping especially for comments about character, theme, plot, etc… as I tend to struggle with the big picture of fiction rather than the small details.
Here’s the link…[Read more]

@valtmy Welcome to KP! 😀
@sam-kowal ‘s right. But worry not, I’ve tried to instigate a rebellion myself. XD Even though I’m the one who made @daeus king.
Anyway, randomness aside; I’m Dragon Snapper. Most people here just call me Snapper though, cause why would you have to write down Dragon Snapper EVERY SINGLE TIME. XD
Glad to see another…[Read more]

Hey guys!
So, I’m just going to say it…. writing’s been hard lately. I just started another novel–10,000 words through– but as I write, I really have to force myself to keep going. I try to write well, of course, but I feel almost disconnected from my book. I can write as fast as I used to if I force myself to, if I really really try, but I…[Read more]

Dragons?! Well, you’re going to have to offer something more concrete to get me to join the revolt against King @daeus . Like what is this “new system” you are planning to enact? More importantly, what salaries and benefits am I going to get?
If you’re interested in anime, I would recommend Psycho Pass (first season only) to…[Read more]

Let’s see…
rev·o·lu·tion
ˌrevəˈlo͞oSH(ə)n/
noun
1. a forcible overthrow of a government or social order in favor of a new system.I guess that means we’re revolting against King @daeus … I’ve heard he has dragons, though, so we should probably keep it a secret. 😀
Maybe I’ll watch some of the shows you suggested and see if I lik…[Read more]

Jenna Terese started the topic Weird Things People Tell Me 'Cause I'm a Writer in the forum General Writing Discussions 6 years, 10 months ago
I created this topic to share all the funny and weird things that has happened to us being writers. Here’s a couple of my experiences….
I daydream while my mom and another mom-friend talk about their kids’ interests. I’m really not part of the conversation until my mom says, “My daughter writes books.”
Mom-Friend turns to me. “Oh really?…[Read more]

You’re from Taiwan? I love Taiwan! The bubble tea and desserts you have there are amazing! 🙂
I am an INTJ. For books I enjoy reading Lewis, Austen and Pratchett (I know he was an atheist but I can see behind his words a great spiritual yearning which he himself may not have realised).
I studied Business. Am still…[Read more]

NaomiJackson replied to the topic Chapters in a First Draft in the forum General Writing Discussions 6 years, 10 months ago
I think everyone’s perspective on this is interesting…I’ve always found adding chapters to be one of my least favorite parts of writing.
I’m currently writing a limited third person with two main characters and I’ve always just switched back and forth between them when it felt natural. Recently I’ve started just writing all of the sections with…[Read more]

@daeus Haha, okay, I guess people do it in different ways. I rarely plan more than the sparsest of plots, and sometimes even those get changed as I go along. So when I put in chapter breaks, they often get switched back and forth during the editing period. My completion marks are more set where the character decides something or goes so…[Read more]

MNValentine replied to the topic Kicking Off the Plot in the forum General Writing Discussions 6 years, 10 months ago
@daeus When I say action I mean the point at which the plot officially kicks off, which also happens to be the first moment of mortal peril. There are a couple points of minor conflict in the beginning, and the story is set up – important things to the plot do happen. I found a reference chart based on the book you suggested (which looks useful,…[Read more]

@allison-grace Climb a tree. It’s faster.
@aviantrail Log. She doesn’t like being exposed.
@perfectfifths Book with dictionary. she would probably learn the language.
@daeus In the clouds. It’s so much nicer up there.

@rochellaine She would probably rather be a commoner in France.
@allison-grace Climb a tree most definitely.
@aviantrail Sleep in the log. She would feel safer like that.

Hi @daeus! Thanks for getting back to me. I don’t have Scrivener, though I really want to splurge and get it! 🙂 I’ve heard it makes writing life so much easier! We’re working on the editing (my parents, who are old journalists) right now through good ol’ Mac Word. 😉
We’re planning on publishing it through Amazon, yes. Any tips on making that…[Read more]
