@sarah-h It’s been hard, but not overwhelmingly so. It’s not so much that words won’t come or I don’t know what to write; I simply just don’t want to write anymore…like around halfway through. 😉

Ah, let’s see, has anyone mentioned that today is Texas Independence Day? Texas is the only US State to be its own nation for several years before becoming a state. Well, I guess there were also the Hawaii Islands (which didn’t become a state until the 1950s) but I’m not sure that counts.

Bother it! I just realized I titled this thread newletters instead of newsletters. I guess there’s nothing I can do about it now. ;(
Ah, yes, @Daeus, short and sweet. I’m hoping to overhaul my own newsletter this month, once I figure out how exactly I want to do it. Yes, I do get the Goodriter newsletters. I’ve been looking at them and about any…[Read more]

Just wondering if anyone had suggestions or good ideas about what a writer’s newsletter should contain. I have a monthly one right now and I want it to be fun, yet somewhat official. (Basically, I want to use it for marketing at times, but I also want it to be fun) And I want there to be special stuff there that people who don’t get the newsletter…[Read more]

So, I was thinking the other day about how much more a Christian author has to do when writing a Christian story than a ‘normal’ author has to do. And this mainly has to do with characters being Christians. In a ‘non-Christian’ story, a bad guy might redeem himself and die in the process and it’s somewhat sad but everything is as it should be. In…[Read more]

Well, I’ve written 2500 of today’s 5000 words and am on here taking a quick break. 🙂 I’m writing 5000 words a day for five days (i.e. this week) so I can complete the rough draft of my novella. The story itself is going well, though sometimes I fear it may be a little slow. And writing is going well to, though there comes a point around the…[Read more]

The Ark, yes @Daeus! And we have a Creation Museum…has anyone been there? I have, twice.
Anyhow, I live in Indiana, otherwise known as the crossroads of America. And yes, lots of corn and soy beans. And some winter wheat; that’s cool to watch grow in the spring.
But @kate-flournoy…no American authors? What about Mark Twain (some of the…[Read more]

That’s been a hard on for me. I tend to stick with Mother or Father, or Mom and Dad…basically whatever the MC uses. If it was a separate scene with just the parents, I normally use their first names.

Hope Ann replied to the topic Emotion in the forum Characters 8 years, 9 months ago
Emotion is a hard thing for me to write, though it is definitely worth taking the time to write well because unrealistic emotion ruins the best story.
One thing which could help with emotion is to show the character’s thoughts as well as make sure the reader understands the villain’s emotional reason for wanting to kill the MC. If they can…[Read more]

Hope Ann replied to the topic When is enough enough? in the forum General Writing Discussions 8 years, 9 months ago
It is tricky. Normally I stick with general description mixed with emotions, thoughts, and a general haze of pain. During one scene where a character is beaten, I mention the first few blows and then there is just a few lines about a haze of pain and blows on every side…well, it’s easier to just copy it (this is part of the reason Cyth isn’t…[Read more]

Daven the Black?
Or maybe something ‘the black’, or ‘the blackhearted’ (though that might be a bit overused). My brother came up with a character who’s surname was Blackheart…and the man wore a black heart on his belt. That could be interesting. 😉

Actually, I wrote an article for this site on world building. And it’s easier to just link it than repeat it… https://kingdompen.org/a-three-tiered-world/ There are a few other articles here on world building too; you can look them up in the search box.

Oh yes, I’ve created three worlds to date…or is it four? And then there is a futuristic world I’m writing a story in…
Anyhow, I agree with what Kate said. Also, there is the religious aspect to your world. Is there more than one religion? Is there a good and bad religion? How does it effect life? Laws? Peoples and nations?
Also, what of…[Read more]

I swallowed hard and closed my eyes. “I can’t…I can’t go in there.”
I could feel Daren’s stare. “What’s that supposed to mean? We’re getting through this cave.”
“But…” I motioned helplessly towards the creatures covering the ground between me and the opposite exit.
“Fluffy night bunnies?” Daren’s stare turned into a smirk. “A grown knight…[Read more]
