@nova21 And even after seventy years, the shine of the sea still hasn’t changed.

SeekJustice replied to the topic What do you believe is one of the most important elements of a good story? in the forum Topic of the Week 5 years, 9 months ago
For me it’s character and settings. The character bit is pretty obvious I think, I get invested in the characters and they’re the ones that make me really enjoy the story. But next to that, I really love settings and worlds! It’s an amazing feeling reading a book that really delves into the worldbuilding, whether that be fantasy,…[Read more]

I’m a bit late to the party, but I analysed three pieces altogether, randomly picked from my current WIP and my last WIP. For the two pieces from my current WIP, I got James Joyce (who I’ve never read) and Stephen King (who I’ve also never read, but I’ve seen enough snippets of his to say, yeah fair I guess). and then the snippet from the older…[Read more]

I liked the first book in the space trilogy. It had some pretty interesting worldbuilding. I didn’t read the other two. My older brother told me the third wasn’t good. I don’t know why I didn’t read the second. 😛
Yes, I just found Only the Brave, a musical about the British gliders preparing for the D-Day invasion, and the Fren…[Read more]

I haven’t heard of MaryLu Tyndall, but I just looked her up and her books sound fun. 🙂 Have you read any of Rafael Sabatini’s books or seen any of the old 30s swashbuckling movies?
I’m doing great. 🙂
Have you read any good books lately?

Life insurance rules and regulations. My dad’s a financial planner, and I’m doing some work with the family business.
I’ve been wanting to ask you, what are some of your favorite swashbuckling novels/movies? (I assume you like the genre since you’re writing about pirates…?) 😛

The Prestige is an awesome movie! I really enjoyed it.Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban! It’s such a well made movie and I absolutely loved the book as well. But the movie, which I watched about six weeks ago, broke my eighteen month writers block and I started writing a…[Read more]

I’m glad you got some good feedback
Sadly no, though I have discovered that there is an Ever After musical, so I might hunt down that soundtrack sometime soon. Currently I am still obsessed with Newsies and The Clockmaker’s Daughter. How about you?

@jenwriter17, Cool! Editing is soooo much fun on a tight schedule. You had a professional editor look at it, right?
Thank you! I have both the 1st and 2nd draft open at once, and I realized that already the 2nd draft has a much darker, but more plot appropriate tone to it

I got Dan Brown, Stephan King, and George Orwell (I wanted to see how many different ones I could get from one sample. Apparently the beginning is Orwell, middle is Brown, and ending is King from the 7 paragraphs used)

here’s the first page of my WIP. thoughts?
Everyone knelt, the white fog weighing heavy around them. Jycin could feel his legs growing stiff in the cool damp air, but he dared not move. They would be coming at any moment and he didn’t have the luxury of playing with fate. He closed eyes and tried to distract himself with thoughts of…
