I really enjoy Unusual Things for worldbuilding advice, in particular. In general, Hannah Heath has been a favorite for a while, Go Teen Writers is great, Story Embers is amazing, (KP, of course), um… The Phoenix Fiction Writers have a couple of podcasts on their YouTube channel (and, I assume, on audio platforms like Spotify) and those are…[Read more]

I heard worldbuilding so I am here. XD I’ve been trying to get more consistent about my worldbuilding recently, so this is great timing.

(It’s so frustrating when I make a tiny edit to a post and then it vanishes.)
One of the things that helps me the most is having a plan for managing plot bunnies. What I’ve found to work best for myself is allowing myself to explore an idea for a few days or maybe even a week and write down everything I know about it, all the questions I…[Read more]

What I’ve found to work best for myself is allowing myself to explore an idea for a few days or maybe even a week and write down everything I know about it, all the questions I have, all the character ideas, etc. I often make Pinterest boards. R.M. Archer replied to the topic What are you most excited about in your current WIP at this moment? in the forum Topic of the Week 4 years ago
Working on the older character has actually not been too difficult. In fact, she’s the one character in this plotline who’s coming across the way she’s supposed to, and writing the POV character with her actually made him work better, too. XD So that’s been pretty cool. I created this character over a decade ago, though, so I kno…[Read more]

I haven’t gotten to that spot of the book yet, so I’m not sure yet. I’ll get back to you after I write the next chapter. XD

I’m actually struggling with my WIP at the moment, struggling to find what really excites me about it, but it will cross-over with a couple of other projects and I’m excited to see how those character interactions play out. One of the characters I usually write as a kid will be an adult, for instance, so that’s likely to be fun. 🙂

R.M. Archer replied to the topic What do you do when you feel discouraged and feel like giving up? in the forum Topic of the Week 4 years, 1 month ago
What encourages me generally differs depending on why I’m discouraged. God blessed me with an exceptionally easy project that I’ve been working on for the past two years or so, so it’s a little tricky to remember the last time I handled discouragement well, since the project before that… I did not handle well. XD But I remember…[Read more]

I have a blog post that goes into the practical tips I use to write stronger description! And all of the advice you’ve gotten thus far is also excellent. 🙂

Ohhhh. That’s going to take an adjustment. XD Interesting! So they work more like “Mom” and “Dad.”
Hm. Cool. What if a letter is addressed to someone by their full name (in the opening of the letter)?
I’m not quite sure if I’m following the terms of endearment. So most ToE are stand-alone, but “chan” is a suffix? Am I understanding that…[Read more]

@libby One more and then I think I’m actually done. XD Are everyday titles (i.e. non-familial titles) attached when speaking in third-person as well as first-person?

@libby Terms of endearment! Those are another thing I asked about when my post didn’t work. Are Japanese terms of endearment standalone like the English “sweetheart”? Or do they attach to names?

@e-k-seaver Oh, oops. XD
Mm… I’m not sure? My route was kind of unconventional–I knowingly put less effort into my short stories because I know they’re not what I’m focused on and I wanted to put out something decent but not necessarily stellar while I worked on novels–but… it worked for me? Those short stories were a great opportunity f…[Read more]
