Katherine replied to the topic Really struggling with opening chapters… in the forum Plotting 2 years, 4 months ago
@joy-caroline Yes, definitely! My opening chapters often feel flat. I write things that happen to the characters and that I think are important, only to figure out later that it wasn’t really important or added anything to the overall story. Sometimes my opening chapters drag on, and I decide that I need to move into the plot quicker or make the…[Read more]

I totally feel this struggle. I have rewritten so many chapters, especially opening ones, because I’m almost never satisfied with chapters that I’ve written. Opening ones can be so difficult because you’re juggling introducing the book’s themes, characters, and conflicts all at once in a way that’s memorable, satisfying, and intri…[Read more]

Jodi Maile replied to the topic How to make a side character more interesting? in the forum Characters 2 years, 5 months ago
@joy-caroline I think something to consider is what theme you’d like this character to represent, and then working with that. So if your themes are love and faith, maybe finding a way for this character to struggle with one of those things. An estranged family member they have to reconcile with, and demonstrate love? A health crisis they have to…[Read more]

Hello, my friends! It’s been a minute since I was last on here. I’ve missed you all!
I have a question for any of you who have tried writing platforms similar to Wattpad, for context. I recently finished co-writing a book with my sister and we’re not sure what we want to do with it yet, so we’ve decided to try uploading it to a writing site over…[Read more]

Yeah, I can see what you’re saying… I think I’ll stick with Maraly, but I agree that there are also arguments to both sides.

What? Maraly kissed him, and you can totally tell Kalmar likes her! Plus, they have like, REALLY similar personalities in some ways.
However… I can kind of see what you mean about Kalmar and Gayla. Both of them being former Fangs, I guess they would understand each other pretty well.
You’re making me second-guess myself! xD…[Read more]

Those are AMAZING characters! (Although, pretty much all the characters in the WFS are amazing, so….)
My favorite characters are probably Sara (because I can relate with her the most), Artham (because he’s just so cool with his wings and stuff), and Janner (because, duh, he’s the hero).
I know, Oskar’s quotes are amazing!…[Read more]

@maryg3 Hey, Mary!! From what I’ve gathered about the bit you shared, it seems your book’s overarching main focal theme is about finding your place in life. (Did I get it right? 😂) So for my personal opinion, I think it’s really great to have more than one message in a story!!! I mean, we as people are so complex and learn so many different…[Read more]

This might not be the best advice by a long shot, but you seem like you’re REALLY in love with the idea of bringing them back. Like I can just feel how much you love this idea and your excitement to write it. And I guess for me, that’s the best reason to follow through with the idea! It’s your story at the end of the day, and if…[Read more]
