That’s an extremely blatant example. I’m more interested in the possible nuances. But it gets the point across.

I’m moving a discussion I started into this thread. It’s kind of related.
Basically, how far are you willing to disregard gender norms in stories, specifically tropes? For an extreme example, switching a “damsel in distress” for a “man in distress.”

😠 Yeah you better run
XD jkjk
I know you said you like Gimli more in the movies which is totally fine. I like almost all the characters from the books the same as I like them in the movies. Exception being Faramir because book Faramir was a totally different person.

Even if I don’t use it here, my favorite trope is just a bunch of guys being an unlikely team. Which Keilah probably agrees with. 😂

I think “damsel in distress” can very easily be messed up because it automatically takes away the damsel’s agency in the situation, usually speaking. But I would love to see situations where it isn’t so biased towards the damsel’s savior – like maybe the damsel holds the emotional weight of the story in her hands, to…[Read more]

Ah yes! I have not read manga, but I love seeing different characters’ points of view on the same or similar event. (One reason I like The Last Archer. The antagonist-to-friend plot looks completely different when seen through the eyes of the antagonist’s lacky. Not to mention being incredibly hilarious.)
Hmm.…[Read more]

I loved all of these sooo much! They were all so cute! It’s sooo much fun seeing everyone’s drawings of my character!!
Highscribe: First off, I loooove the dog stickers, and her little wave is super cute. Her hair is a bit darker than I imagined though. She’s so sweet!
Ellette Giselle: She i…[Read more]

Long story, but everything’s fine now. Friday night one of my sisters got a comb stuck in her hair and my parents couldn’t get it out, so my dad got a wire cutter, and cut it out. But her hair still had an awful knot in it, so on Saturday our neighbor, who is a hairdresser, came over and it took her over an hour to detangle it, and then all…[Read more]

Thanks! 🙂 It was fun to draw.
I can see how someone would feel that way. I’ve never had trouble keeping my mental images separate from movies. It must depend on the person lol.
That would be nice. XD It’s annoying to have different versions of characters competing for attention. I can usually keep them s…[Read more]

Travenor walked quickly. I scurried through the woods behind him, feeling remarkably like a squirrel trailing an elk. Sunlight streamed down through the leaves around me, creating a world of green and gold. Birds sang above us…[Read more]

😈 I am evil incarnate.
Part of me really wants to see the movies, since they are touted as being so accurate and fantastic, while another part of me clenches my mental images close and growls protectively. It’s how I am with every book I read, (especially Narnia, heh…

I don’t really have advice, but I think Mark Twain did this excellently in The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County.

Just kidding. I do understand that, and I have heard of some fantastic things they did with the adaptions, including splendid character interactions and even deviations from the books that actually made the plot more family friendly. Like cutting out the barrow…[Read more]

Gentle warriors for the win! I am now inspired to write better representations of gentleness, purpose, and grief. We need unique turns on these topics.
I think one of the reasons their story is cut is because it’s a story that speaks to more sensitive people. Aragorn looks cool on screen to everyone, and ev…
