Audrey Caylin replied to the topic Discussion for Video Twelve: Foil Characters in the forum Discussion Questions 7 years, 8 months ago
Hmm…I think I like foil characters best when they are going after the same goal the protagonist is, though with a different EiL. It is especially interesting if the protagonist is pursing the correct EiL for her goal and trying to help the foil character do the same.

@Ethryndal I love your blog! I am a huge fan of blogs that have humor (or snark or sarcasm–doesn’t matter which). I just added it to my reading list 😀
I’m not quite sure how WordPress works (I use Blogger), but perhaps make the title larger? I ADORE the title, so making it bigger might bring more attention to it 🙂
Oh, and congrats on getting…[Read more]

@winter-rose Same. I might try writing by hand again 😛 I’ll be going until at least 7 though. Wait…I mean 10pm Eastern Time. I feel I’m quite the minority over here on the west coast 😉

@anyone I’m editing/re-outlining a few chapters of my novel (not quite sure how this works because I’ve never jumped in here before 😉 )

@aratrea hmm… I think it has to do with me foreshadowing how everything is about to fall apart, introduce a character that will be important later on, and just pass a little time until everyone starts to “travel” to where the protagonist finds the “stranger.” It makes a little more sense in the novel, but I’ll keep an eye on that scene *glares at it* 😉

@aratrea the main theme is forgiveness, but the supporting theme is truth. Basically, the protagonist is on a search for the truth about things in her life, and makes a mess of things. She believes that the truth is she’ll never be able to fix them, be forgiven, or be redeemed, thus the main theme of forgiveness. Or you could call it redemption,…[Read more]

I was going to use the novel I’ve been using for the other homework, but I made myself promise not to look at it again while it’s off at beta readers (least I find something I should have changed. 😉 ) Therefore, the following scenes are from the sequel, which I am currently re-outlining scene by scene 😀
SCENE #1
Protagonist is on her way to a…[Read more] -

@Aratrea or @Daeus I think there’s a bit of a link mix-up for lesson eleven. The link from the video takes me here, and when I just looked in the forum, discussion questions for video eleven were about antagonists. Then there is another topic of discussion questions for video eleven that is the correct one. So basically, there are two video eleven…[Read more]

@Aratrea I read it a while ago, but I could probably use a refresher 😛
I’m assuming that more than one method can be used for the “disaster” of each scene? I guess that most scenes seem to naturally use poetic justice along with the other methods. Just a thought.
Anyway, here is a scene:
Goal: Protagonist is trying to prove herself as good as…[Read more]

@Kate-Flournoy don’t worry; I know I will 😉
@Aratrea My question (or dilemma): I have a character who is important in my first novel, and what happens to him during the first 25% of the sequel is very important. However, he is not present after the 25% mark of that sequel. He only shows up again as a main character in the following novel. Can a…[Read more]
