@mnvalentine Yes! please do, they are really good! I would especially recommend his Kingfountain books.
@rochellaine History is my favorite subject! I enjoy several different time periods/places; in particular the Irish potato famine, Egypt, the 1800s, and the trail of tears. What about you?

Thanks everyone for the welcomes! 🙂
@clairec I’ve been writing for at least 6 or 7 years, and I am from the beautiful state of Oregon.
@aratrea There is a website called the Odyssey, which is primarily a platform for college students to share their thoughts on all sorts of subjects. My school, Corban, has its own community of writers on the…[Read more]

High fives to all of my fellow homeschoolers!
@seekjustice I read all kinds of books, and it would be next to impossible to settle on one genre as my “favorite”. I have a few short stories, an article, and a book that I started to write… I live in the midwest, surrounded by trees, cows and rolling hills. Our puppy is an Australian Shepherd, and…[Read more]

Hi, all! I know I kinda recently created a new topic asking y’all the cliches of sci-fi, but this topic is a little different. I’m thinking of writing a dystopian novel. I know this genre can be pretty heavy on the cliches, so my questions is ‘what are the cliches of this genre?’
I know the whole oppressive government thing is kinda cliche, and I…[Read more]

Since I’ll be self-publishing a short novella I wrote over the summer of 2017, I plan on getting an author website/blog up in the spring. I’ve done tons of research, but nothing is like advice directly from people I know who actually have a blog. What were some things that were unexpected? Challenges? Time commitment? And I’d love to know if you…[Read more]

@warrenluther04 Here he is! What do you think?
Cole Avis:
As for your fanfiction, I think it might be okay to post it so long as you credit that it’s based off the Star Wars Universe. 😀 If you still have concerns, I’d ask @aratrea or @daeus about that.

@aratrea I don’t remember right off the top if a whole thread disappears or not. If it doesn’t disappear, it would probably be on the topic list, but I think the topic itself would be completely empty.
I do remember that I had to create a completely new thread the last time it happened

@aratrea Yep, @rochellaine is right! Outside of the topic, before Rochellaine posted, it SAID I posted recently, but my post is gone!
Spam?! Hmmm, that makes sense, actually. It’s happened about three times, and all of those times, I remember that the posts were pretty long. This one was long, too.
If it helps, here is another place where it…[Read more]

Hi everyone,
I know that a lot of the advice/articles on this website pertain to writing novels, from which I’ve learned a lot, but I was wondering if there are any principles or characteristics which apply specifically to writing short stories?
At the moment I’m working on a short story for my writing class (due soon) and it’s pretty solid so…[Read more]

@aratrea Hm, for some reason I thought I’d posted in here. Both my post in the discussion and here somehow aren’t here anymore 😛
I’m not sure I did this right, but here goes.
Theme: Purpose in life/what to live for
Plot goal: To get back home, back to the way it was (the way she wants)
Thematic goal: To help, doing what she can in the…[Read more]

I’m usually attracted to an email list if I know the person and have previously read some of their work. I only have about half a dozen people I signed up for an email from. A few are friends of church that have small designing businesses, and the others are writers.

@aratrea Actually, my email list subcribing is rather…rare (I only subscribe to 2 right now). I usually prefer to pop into someone’s blog once a week rather than subscribe to an email list. 😜 I don’t even “follow” blogs in the normal sense by clicking the follow button; I just save their blogs to my favorites list and regularly check them.
