Thanks @aratrea!
*Looks at message* Woah! Yeah, okay, I see your point. *Deliberates for a few years*
Um, how’s this?
Message- Everything you have must be sacrificed for justice, as long as that does not require atonement of itself. -

@aratrea Thanks for your feedback 😀 I think as my friend and I work on the story, we’ll be able to explore those answers a little better – right now we have two characters, one who is doing a mix of 1 and 5, and the other of 2, 3 and 5.

@aratrea Ahaha. Yep. Rephrase. Lotch believes that love and joy, etc., seemingly small things compared to Liriel’s heroic deeds, are the most precious gifts. Noyarc believes pleasure is the most precious gift, so he has no real foundation on anything except what will bring him the most happiness.
Is that…better?

Wow, awesome lesson @aratrea. That is really cool, helping solve the whole character- plot thing. Cos generally I focus on making the character development most of the plot, but this works way better.
As for how I can put my self in my character’s shoes, well, I do a whole heap of online quizzes, pretending to be them, Myers-Briggs included. I…[Read more] -

Thanks! Again, an awesome lesson @aratrea! I have two themes in this novel, (First of a trilogy), but I’ll stick to working with one for now and work on the other one as I get the hang of this a bit more!
Theme- JusticeFocusing Question- How much should one be willing to sacrifice for justice?
Possible answers-
1. Anything and everything as…[Read more] -

Okay, so it has come to my attention that my theme is not the Intrinsic Worth of Humanity—otherwise known as Racism, though I really didn’t want to admit that one to myself—but actually God’s Gifts (trying to find a better name, but my mind’s going blank), with a focusing question of What is the most important gift God has given us? Liriel’s…[Read more]

@aratrea This is for a short story I’m writing?
Theme: Trust
FQ: How far should I trust God?
1. Until He fails me
2. All the way
3. Only when it helps me with what I want
4. Never
5. Who’s God?
Message: Trust in God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your strength.
Obviously, most of these answers are for non-christians in…[Read more] -

@Aratrea Theme, I find is exciting because it is so clearly the basis of any good writing, and is a way to be able to reach people with Christ in a way that isn’t throwing the Bible at their face. Because that’s not so good. But the fact that there is something that means we can both write, and speak the Truth, that’s what I think is the most epic…[Read more]

@Aratrea To be able to have more of an idea of how to weave a good theme into a novel, and make it a novel for Christ without sounding preachy.

@aratrea I love theme because it has the power to change how the reader views a certain thing or idea. It excites me because I’ve felt it before and I’m getting to learn how to use it 🙂

Hello @sarah-h I have a journal I use for my notes. I write everything I learn down in it. Before I start, I like to pray and ask God to show me what He wants to through the passage. Then I ask three questions: (which generally leads to asking more questions)
1. What does this passage say? Through this question, I make general observations about…[Read more] -

@aratrea I’m looking to understand theme better and how to apply it well to my story. This has been my biggest problem in writing, and I could never understand how to do it well even after reading post after post on it, although I could usually spot it easily in books I read. So I’m very excited about getting started!
