Hey people— @BlueJay, @corissa-maiden-of-praise, @christi-eaton, @anne-of-lothlorien, and anyone else who may tag me—just wanted to let you know, I’m not ignoring your tags. I’ve seen them, but we’re on vacation, and with not much wi-fi time; so it’ll probably be about a week before I get back to what you tagged me for.
But I’m not ignoring…[Read more] -

Ah, this looks like the right place for this. @BlueJay 😀
So, who out there has read Sherlock Holmes and loved him? Or, dare I say it, hated him? *gasps* If you do hate him, please tell me why, because aside from a few swear words 😛 I thought they were some of the best stories I’ve ever read. In one of the books, Sir Doyle did something that…[Read more]

@BlueJay Sounds like a blast! 😀
Hey, this may sound like a completely random question (maybe because it is :P) But have you ever read any Sherlock Holmes? I recently decided to read them, and (aside from a few swear words 😛 ) I was blown away by how wonderful they were. *disclaimer: it’s generally Americans swearing. I assure you that this is…[Read more]

You know you’re a writer when you decide something specific should happen to the characters you’ve been reading about, and then you finish all the stories and it doesn’t… so you dream about it instead. 🙂
Sherlock Holmes, anyone?

Corissa Maiden of Praise replied to the topic MBTI in the forum Characters 8 years, 2 months ago
MBTI is fun… and confusing. 😉
I’ve taken the test a couple of times. I’m kind of both an ENTP and an ENTJ. I’m not sure which one is stronger. I’m barely extrovert thought; some days I’m quite certain I would be introvert. 😛 😉

@corissa-maiden-of-praise @spradlin Sorry to arrive so late, but I fully concur with the Spanish topic idea. 🙂 -
Sarah Hoven replied to the topic Where do you live? in the forum General Writing Discussions 8 years, 2 months ago
Africa @anne-of-lothlorien! Wow, that is spread out. I lived in Illinois for a few years, and it sounds a lot like Indiana- corn and soybeans. I’ve never been to Indiana though. 🙂 Making up words is such fun. Indianians sounds way better than Hoosiers. 🙂

And a big thank you to all the people who brainstormed for me. I know some of you didn’t make it here before I cleared the topic, but I have figured out what to do. Grazie. 🙂

@spradlin 🙂 *whispers* It’s ready for beta readers now. Psst, @daeus are you interested in reading “the Golden Conch”?
How many people should I send it to in at once?-
@bluejay Yes, I am interested, but I’m a little swamped right now. I’m beta reading two other novels and Kate might send me the second piece of hers any time. Would it be alright if I postpone for a month?
-
LOL! Wish I had time to do the thing. SUBMIT IT WHEN YOU’RE DONE THOUGH! cuz that’s the cool thing to do. xD
-
When it’s done, it will be coming your way. But I hope you have patience cause I have a feeling it might be some time… XD

Haha! Not a problem! Can’t wait to see it. 🙂

@Bluejay I’d love to, but unfortunately I’m way to busy right now to take on any extra projects. Keep me on the list though. 😉 Perhaps a later draft…

@anne-of-lothlorien That isn’t why I glared! I glared because of all the threats you’ve been making. *repeats glare*

Need a bit of help here. Now I don’t want to say too much because of spoilers, but HELP!
*ahem, ahem. What noise comes to your mind when you think of a shell (reasonably big) breaking and falling onto a wooden floor?
But you have to make sure that your audience doesn’t know what has happened?
@kate-flournoy @faithdk @emma-flournoy @christi-eaton @d…[Read more]-
Like shattering glass, perhaps with a duller ring to it as the wood would absorb a lot of the sound and the shell is hollow, besides.
@Bluejay-
Hmmmm… I’d have to agree with Kate. It doesn’t quite have the tinkling resonance you’d expect from glass (because I have dropped many a glass in my days). Almost like what I’d imagine a pot shattering would sound like, if you want to use a comparison.
-
You’re not the only one to drop glasses. *I managed to drop a jar of Vegemite once. It was rather a mess*
Yes, I’m wanting a comparison. Originally I had, “the sound of a thousand stones falling to the ground.” But I don’t think it would shatter like that or make that sound.
-
-
-
Well, it also depends on the type of wood floor it is. Is it actual, solid wood? (unfortunately this seems to be becoming rarer, at least in my area) Or is it laminate wood floor? The sound would be different if it is.
-
Oh yes, and just to clarify, it breaks after it hits the wood floor, right? The way you worded it kind of suggested it breaks before hitting… *grins mischievously*
-
-
*grins back* Shhh…it breaks before it hits the ground. It is the good old solid wooden floor. @corissa-maiden-of-praise.
-
@BlueJay Well, that changes things. *ponders* Perhaps… well, how does it break then? We must take that into account if we are to accurately describe the sound. 😉
-
@corissa-maiden-of-praise You’re prying! You just want to know what happens don’t you??? 😉 *suspicious stare* It gets whacked on someone’s head. *A hard head* 🙂 *sniggers*
-
Goodness, this sounds terribly exciting. I can’t wait to read it! 🙂

-
-
-
@bluejay, Ahhh! This is a really hard question. I honestly can’t think of anything except what everyone else has already said, so, um, yeah! 🙂
-
Thanks @winter-rose That was what I was thinking too, but I wasn’t sure that a clay jar fitted as an example, so I reworded it and I ‘think’ I’ve got it.
@corissa-maiden-of-praise Glad you think so. One day…-
@BlueJay Whenever anything is cracked over someone’s head, you can generally count on the story being exciting. 😀
-
-
@bluejay, sounds like you’ve got it already, but I agree with the others—like pottery, just a little clearer and harder.

@emma-flournoy I have no idea if you’ll see this, but that’s okay. 🙂 Hope you are having a great time away. 😀
@bluejay We are, thanks. 🙂
@emma-flournoy WELCOME BACK! I missed you. 🙂
Aww, thanks @BlueJay. *hugs you*
Oh, and I’ll be replying to your e-mail sometime soon—hopefully tomorrow or the next day.
@BlueJay
*hugs you too* Oh goody. I look forward to it. 🙂
Hey, I know you don’t 100% write, but you any good with beta reading?
@emma-flournoy
@bluejay
Yyyyyus…in fact, that’s what I do for Kate’s book. I (since you asked!) do think I’m a pretty good beta-reader; pretty tough, but I think that’s good, for someone really wanting feedback. I’m not trying to brag, you understand… :/
Why?
I have a 15 page story that I’m giving a few people for critiquing and so I thought you might be interested…?
And I understand about not bragging when you are trying to tell someone that you can do it well. 🙂 @emma-flournoy
*happy nod* (happy that you’d consider me!)
Since it’s not very long I should have time, but I’m gonna ask Mom, and get back with you about it tomorrow. All good?
🙂
@BlueJay
That’s fine. 🙂 I’ll wait. And FYI you don’t need to tag me for me to receive and email notification. When we post here, it just let’s me know. But let’s make sure. I’m not going to tag you, do you get a notification…?
Huh. That’s helpful. I did not know that. (Obviously.)
Yes, I did get a notification—it’s doing that ’cause we’re having our own conversation, or why?
I think it is something to do with the fact that we are under your profile. So maybe it is linking that with your email. I don’t know. But there you have it folks… 🙂
Good to know. 🙂
Okay, Mom said that’s fine, so you can e-mail me the document I guess, and I’ll ask you more about the beta-reading in replying to the e-mail.
