@sam-kowal Those are all very intriguing…and I just happen to be ending my current WIP, so I have a feeling that my next hero might be a bit different than usual…
@rochellaine Okay, I have to ask, which Jules Verne novel would that be?A Kapeefer for life!
Compendium of KP Literature: kapeeferliterature.wordpress.comMarch 14, 2018 at 11:38 am #66716@supermonkey42 😀 The Pearl of Lima. It’s been a while since I read it, (why would I re-read a thing like that?!) but I think its something like either a white man falls in love with an Indian girl, or two Indians from different tribes, sort of like Romeo and Juliet. He escapes with her but on the last page of the book their pursuers shoot him with an arrow and both he and the girl go over a waterfall to their deaths. Horrible. I usually like Jules Verne, but that book was awful!
Do you like Jules Verne? (You must have read some of his books, or you wouldn’t have asked, right?)

March 14, 2018 at 11:54 am #66718@rochellaine Wow. I currently have Jules Verne ranked as my fifth favorite author, but I’ve definitely never read that. Sounds disappointing.
I mean, if you want ultra-realistic, there you go, but that seems like too much. 🙂

Compendium of KP Literature: kapeeferliterature.wordpress.comMarch 14, 2018 at 11:58 am #66719@supermonkey42 Nope. I want the “rose-colored glasses” version of realism. 😀
My favorite of his would have to be Around the World in 80 Days but I’ve only read four or five of his books, so I’m not really qualified to have a favorite. I think his ending twist to that one is much better than the ending twist to The Pearl of Lima!

March 14, 2018 at 1:00 pm #66728@catwing @rochelllaine @sleepwalkingmk Thanks guys! My prompts weren’t doing any good sitting in my computer, so I’m glad they’re find use somewhere. 😀
Here’s a random one:
The police officer looked from his notebook to me, then back at his notebook. “So, the man who stole your wallet had pointy ears, blond hair, and a bow and arrow?” I nod slowly. “Do you think it might have been a costume?” he asked. “Well, he was yelling Elvish at me as he ran away, so I doubt it.”

March 15, 2018 at 12:57 am #66813I had an idea for a story a while ago, but I never wrote it because I was working on too many other things – and still am. So I’ll set the idea out there and hope one of you likes it/tries it out.
So, the MC is an assassin hired to kill people who become too threatening to the people in power. Kind of got the idea from the “Kennedy Curse” and several other “accidental” deaths which were covered up here in America. (And all over the world, of course. It’s a common thing.) The MC does what he gets paid for, but has conscience problems with it, because he’s not sure if the people he killed deserved it, or if he even agrees with the people who are currently in power (whether they’re clearly in power or secretly pulling the strings).
My original plan was that there would be a farm or something similar where a girl lived, (because I love romance) and since he needed to keep a low profile he’d pretend to be a farm worker and go stay with her family, working for them. Long story short: they fall in love, and she tries to find out why he broods all the time, and he eventually decides with her help that it’s his duty to tell everyone in America/fictional-country what he was hired to do so that they’ll realize what monsters the people in power really are, and take the power away from them. Of course, this means that he’ll be hated on both sides, by the people who hired him because he betrayed them, and by the citizens of the country because he did actually kill the people he was hired to kill…
So yeah, that’s all I got. What do you think?
@sam-kowal @supermonkey42 This kinda goes with the hero/villain we were talking about, doesn’t it?

March 15, 2018 at 2:14 am #66817Ha! I always knew Legolas was extremely untrustworthy…
I’d read it. and probably reread it! It sounds like a really good plot and definitely has room for some great character development. I think you should definitely go for it, when you get time (ha…time…)

March 15, 2018 at 2:38 am #66820Ah, I just realised that you’re giving the idea to us to use. I should read things properly sometimes, it would really help me in life. I’d be much better at cooking.

March 15, 2018 at 2:46 am #66822@seekjustice 🙂 I would SO love to write it! I don’t know that I’m good enough, though. 🙁 If no one takes it, and I eventually finish my other projects, I will probably try to give it a go.
I’d be much better at cooking.
Oh, here we are in the kitchen again! 😀 I don’t like following recipes either.

So, one of the most interesting writing prompts I’ve ever done was to start with J.R.R. Tolkien’s “In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit…” and then to work out what hobbits are and why they live in a hole. The only rule is, of course, that your hobbits can’t be anything like Tolkien’s. It was super fun to do, and everyone else participating had such unique ideas!

March 15, 2018 at 2:08 pm #66903@rochellaine I would read this story, but I don’t really like writing romance (or stories with romance in them) I like the idea though 🙂
I'm a Kapeefer 'TIL WE'RE OLD AND GREY!
www.jennaterese.comMarch 15, 2018 at 2:48 pm #66908@rochellaine That would be cool story! Especially the MC’s character arc. Yep, I changed my profile picture! This was my very first profile pic. *sniffles* Ah, the memories…
@seekjustice Yeah! That prompt was on Go Teen Writers, right? I love that place!Blog: https://weridasusual.home.blog/
March 15, 2018 at 4:05 pm #66914@rochellaine Sounds like a great idea! Yeah, the MC would have a dilemma on his hands, not knowing whether he was a hero or a villain. And then if he told everyone the truth…that could get very interesting.
I /might/ try this out. I actually just finished my current project yesterday, so I could do this next. I’ll see.

Compendium of KP Literature: kapeeferliterature.wordpress.comMarch 15, 2018 at 6:05 pm #66922@supermonkey42 Yeah, I definitely wouldn’t want to be in his shoes!
Cool! But you’d actually be willing to write something that wasn’t fantasy? Or… *whispers in horror* …would you turn this pet idea of mine into fantasy? 😀
I think you’d probably do better with a male protagonist than I would. 🙂 If you do end up doing it, I’m going to claim rights as a beta reader, okay?
