Read to explore worlds, write to create them.
March 11, 2018 at 12:01 pm #66360@rochellaine Or can you imagine in the world were you could only use the words a certain number of times, that every few years, you would move to another country with a different language and a different culture. That would be interesting.

Hey people! Come see the freewrite that Adora ( @sleepwalkingmk ) did for my sci-fi prompt! It’s so cool! I really like the “donating words” idea. I really like everything else, too. I really like the characters, too. 😀 Okay, I’ll stop. Just read it; then you can see for yourselves how intriguing it is!

That has to be the best short story I’ve read in a long time!
The Kingdom has been torn asunder...

March 12, 2018 at 1:53 pm #66419I have a few prompts I made up and scribbled away in a file somewhere, let me see if I can find them. *ventures off*
Later…
*comes back covered in cobwebs and dust from digging into old files* Here we go:
He laughed. He laughed until tears rolled down his cheeks and he was gasping for breath like he had nearly drowned. I just sat back in my chair and sighed. Why do I always get this reaction when I tell people about Earth?
“We almost died.”
“Best five minutes of my life.”“Why can’t I have a normal dragon like everyone else?”
“Seriously, if I have to smuggle you out of one more country.”
“The next time you wrestle a pig, please don’t do it in my living room.”
“He was like a brother to me.”
“He is your brother.”
“Oh, yeah. I keep forgetting.”Blog: https://weridasusual.home.blog/

That has got to be my favorite. I told @dekreel that I wasn’t quite as crazy over sci-fi irl as she thought…but I think I’ve changed my mind. 😀
I also loved the “best five minutes of my life” one. It sounds like a very realistic exchange.
And thanks for reminding me that I had a few prompts tucked away amongst some old notes! I’ll look them up and see what I can find. 🙂

March 12, 2018 at 9:13 pm #66447@sleepwalkingmk Wow. That is an exceedingly intriguing first bit, and would make an amazing story 😛 😀

Why don’t you check out Adora’s freewrite of that prompt? It’s really cool, and kind of mentions the same type of idea as you had. 🙂 (The link’s in one of the above posts.)

March 12, 2018 at 10:56 pm #66471Here are a few prompts I’ve just come up with, and a few that I found in an old file. 🙂
If the ship had crashed, all would have been lost. If the ship had crashed, all her plans would have crashed with it. If the ship had crashed, she would have drowned and she would have never seen Marloth again.
Oh, how she wished the ship had crashed!“I don’t believe we’ve met, my dear.”
“Believe it.”And one of the longest prompts ever:
In winter, black and grey are appropriate colors for any occasion, but when spring came, the little daffodils and tulips crowding over the hills like so much confetti, and she continued to dress in monochrome, people began to talk.
When summer began, the trees wearing fluffy dresses in various shades of green, (as well as a few radical fellows who wore purple and red,) the sun burning through their skirts to the grass below, and she still wore nothing but black and grey, people began to confront her.
When autumn appeared, the sun completing its work and burning the leaves to crisp oranges, yellows, browns, and reds, and she continued to wear the same colorless shades, people began to threaten her."Sylvester - Sylvester!"
March 13, 2018 at 11:59 am #66493@ariella-newheart Ok, ok, you’re right. I checked. 😉 And yes, WRITE MORE QUOTE STORIES.
Here’s a couple of prompts:
There’s a difference between someone not present but accounted for—and someone present but not accounted for.
One’s late, and the other’s a spy.
****
“It was vitally important that the building be painted red!”
“Well, it was vitally important that you wear blue shoes, and look what came of that.”
