yes, I see. It’s really interesting! in the movie version of Anastasia, the ballet they see is Cinderella, I believe, and it’s not really a big deal, but I like the fact that they put such interesting symbolism in the stage version 😀
I have been in a number of ballets. Never dancing ballet, since I don’t do that, but dancing nonetheless. I don’t know what my favourite was though. We did Beauty and the Beast last year and I really enjoyed that. I also like the music for Tchaikovsky’s ballets. Slightly altered versions of Coppelia are really fun as well.
(Here’s a completely random question I thought of when thinking about romantic window scenes–do you think theatre companies will still be performing Romeo and Juliet in 140 years, ie, when the third Infinity book takes place?)

November 11, 2018 at 9:07 pm #77960Hi!
Sorry had work to do just now.
From what I know of your story, the society you are writing about is concerned about the ‘future’ right? So they may not be very into things of the past like Romeo and Juliet right? I thought Jean was supposed to be considered odd because of that.
November 11, 2018 at 9:12 pm #77961No worries 😀
Yes, that’s true. So they might not be performing the actual Romeo and Juliet. But since those “Star-crossed lovers” stories are so common, there’s likely to be one or two Romeo and Juliet-esque stories, I suppose.

November 11, 2018 at 9:16 pm #77962@seekjustice Because of my tendency to try and find basis and origin for things lately I’ve been wondering if Beauty and the Beast was inspired by Nebuchadnezzar. What do you think? 😉
I’ve been over analyzing this question and came up with a few things.
One, I seem to remember that Jean was the only one who really kept the old books, and Chessy considered that unusual. (though she didn’t mind, because she liked reading.) So, Romeo and Juliet being old, the government may have disparaged it or something.
Two, I started comparing this to Nazi Germany and Communist Russia, both of which claimed to want to allow people to keep their old music, plays, and literature, but in actuality had stiff control over what was shown.
Three, Romance in art is something people wish for when the rest of the world is crumbling. In @valtmy’s story, the plays are considered by the leaders to be bad, but they are still produced. I remember visiting Williamsburg (an old American town from the Revolution period) and learning that the Americans produced satirical plays which were banned by the British, but which were shown anyway.
So I’m thinking that people would probably still know the stories, but if they were produced it would be undercover or something. Or it would be just a storyteller reading to the mudlarkers or something similar.
Any thoughts on my ramblings?

November 11, 2018 at 9:18 pm #77963@valtmy Hello! Are you interested in ballet?

November 11, 2018 at 9:21 pm #77964I would be interested to know what kind of star-crossed lovers story your futuristic society will come up with. The society does not seem to really be the sort to glamourise emotion or romance so I am really curious.
I am very nervous at the thought of you over analysing my story when you read QOD. 😛
November 11, 2018 at 9:24 pm #77965I don’t usually watch ballet. I did once in London but it was a modern, experimental dance piece that dealt with very strange and uncomfortable subject matter…
But I am a fan of Tchaikovsky though so I like listening to that kind of ballet music. 😛
November 11, 2018 at 9:32 pm #77966Well, theatre seems to be a very popular form of underground entertainment, due to the fact that it requires little in the way of money or supplies in order to put on a basic show. I’ve read about a lot of war prisoners doing theatre in order to keep themselves busy with something. I was only reading the other day about the productions the Germans in the Australian internment camps used to put on.
the reason I was asking, was that Quillon’s sister is an actress and I’ve been thinking about my third book a lot lately. I’m considering that the theatre could have been some form of non-violent protest (or just defiance) against the government and provided entertainment for the poor who couldn’t afford the high end things the rich do. But once the revolutionaries take over, they could liberate the theatre world, but then very possibly twist it into their own propaganda.
And about Beauty and the Beast, I’d never thought of that, but it could have been 😀 Who knows? I often wonder if a lot of folk tales and mythology are actually Bible stories that have been partially lost, forgotten and embellished over the years, since some of them are very similar (Pandora’s Box and Eve, for example?). I think Tolkien and C.S.Lewis both had that view as well.

November 11, 2018 at 9:35 pm #77967@valtmy 😛 Don’t worry. I don’t know much about East Asian history and culture. 😉 So I doubt I’d be doing much over analyzing.
Modern ballet is weird. 😛
I love Tchaikovsky, but my favorite of his pieces is actually the 1812 overture. Do you like that one?

November 11, 2018 at 9:40 pm #77968I’m not really sure as to what sort of star crossed lovers story they’d come up with, but it would probably be like “poor girl + rich man + friends and family try to warn them of impending doom + doom falls + everyone is dead = Moral: falling in love with poor people is bad.“

November 11, 2018 at 9:43 pm #77969You say “modern ballet is weird” as if old ballet isn’t.Â

November 11, 2018 at 9:47 pm #77970I’ve got to go now for a bit. I may be back later. Bye for now!

November 11, 2018 at 10:13 pm #77971(was Anastasia as amazing as it sounds?)
Jonas was at the top of my google docs as most recently edited so I decided to read it again (and rip my heart out again) when I came to your comment that I never answered. Though I must say, even though I like Zac, Jonas is still slightly better.
@seekjustice, YOU TOOK OUT RAIN?!?!?! She was my second favorite! Now I must grieve her all over again. First because she died and second because she never even existed anymore. *dramatic sigh*Oh, and my sister thinks I’m completely nuts for anguishing over Jonas. I still must avenge his death!
okay, well I have to get off now. Talk to y’all some other time.

Kapeefer til we're old and greyNovember 11, 2018 at 10:15 pm #77972Fear not, fear not. I didn’t take out Rain (she’s my favourite, I love her, I wouldn’t do that to her). What @rochellaine was referring to was simply that I took out the romance between Rain and Kendall.

November 11, 2018 at 10:41 pm #77973@seekjustice, I seem to remember you and @rochellaine talking about that a while back. Well, I better take back that second grieving and save it for the Jonas/Zac in book 3 you’re gonna kill simply to torture me, and possibly move the plot along I guess.
I never shipped Rain and Kendall so I guess I forgot there was ever supposed to be something between them.
