Myeongwol would choose to forget her really embarrassing and traumatic first meeting with Yi Yeongshin.
Your turn to ask a question.
November 9, 2018 at 10:47 pm #77884My argument is that while the beginning or middle of stories can be depressing, the ending should always be happy, because the entirety of our story has a happy ending: God wins. 😉
Even Romeo and Juliet, one of the most famous tragedies of all time, has a good thing happen in the end: the Montague and Capulet families resolve their differences and become friends again. 😛
Does that make sense? What do you think of this idea?

November 9, 2018 at 10:53 pm #77885Ooh, spoilers! 😛 But generally speaking, Bathshua would prefer to forget the circumstances of her father’s death.
Okay, here’s a question:
How would your character react to living in 2018? 😛

November 9, 2018 at 11:02 pm #77886Yilla would hate it. she wouldn’t like modern culture or technology and she would be miserable. High-Praise would love it. she’d love social media and easy access to so many things that she’s never had and she’d like driving fast cars. Courageous would like it too, as @valtmy pointed out. he could have speech therapists who actually aren’t quacks and/or weirdos and he wouldn’t have to be king (or if he did, it would be a largely ceremonial position).

November 9, 2018 at 11:03 pm #77887Ah, yes. Of course. I believe that stories should end with a spiritual victory. In that case, yes, I suppose I can say that QOD will have a happy ending. 😛
Hmm… it will depend on whether Myeongwol was suddenly transported to 2018 or have always lived in modern times.
If she has always lived in the modern era, I imagine lots of things in my story could easily be transposed to a modern setting. Instead of kings and noble clans it would be powerful political families and Myeongwol can still have an arranged marriage in this context. But instead of traditional drama it will be romance movies and shows that Myeongwol would enjoy. She would have an easier time with her obsession with romantic entertainment, that’s for sure.
But if she was suddenly transported to 2018… Well, she’ll be shocked by the values of the modern era and the disregard towards monarchy and nobility. I think Seungyun and Taekyeon (my other characters) would take to the modern era far better since it’s to their benefit that the entertainment industry is more respected in 2018.
My question: If you were a detective, which one of your characters would you choose as your partner?
November 9, 2018 at 11:06 pm #77888Hopeful, Courageous’ sister. She’s a geek when it comes to medical things, and I can just imagine that being a solver of murder mysteries would be exactly in her line of interest.

November 9, 2018 at 11:20 pm #77889Your question?
November 9, 2018 at 11:23 pm #77890I thought it was your turn. Granted, I am slightly confused today, as has been established already.
Based on the scene I just wrote, here’s a question. If you’re character was to be given a “Puritan” name (such as Joy, Lament, Peace, Faith, etc) what would it be? would it contrast or fit their personalities?

November 9, 2018 at 11:44 pm #77891How can it be my turn when you just answered a question that I posed? 😛
My, that’s a hard question. I’ve searched through some Puritan names but given how far removed in time and space ancient Korea is from the Puritans, I can’t imagine Myeongwol having any of those names. Granted, some of the names of the characters do directly translate to words like ‘brave’ or ‘strong’ in Korean but there is still a linguistic difference that makes the Korean names more poetic. The Korean words that are used in names also almost always refer to nice, good things (e.g. ‘jewel’, ‘flower’) and positive traits a parent would want their child to have so they do not sound as cruel as many of the Puritan names honestly do.
So I guess if Myeongwol had a Puritan name, it would probably be something like ‘Graceful’ because I really can’t see her parents bestowing on her most of the other ones.
November 9, 2018 at 11:48 pm #77892some of those names are incredibly cruel. Especially the ones meant to mark out illegitimate children. It’s most definitely a good thing that only the good ones (Joy, Faith, Grace) remain with us now 😛

November 9, 2018 at 11:54 pm #77893That’s true. There is a limit to the poetic potential of the English language to make such names acceptable. Let me give you an example of a Korean name: Sunja.
This name is name out of two characters in the Korean language: ‘Sun’ – meaning to obey, submit and go along with and ‘Ja’ – meaning child. Together, it means an obedient child. Which would be a very Puritan thing to name a child. But because of the way the Korean language works, it’s a very normal and a rather pretty name to give a child.
November 9, 2018 at 11:56 pm #77894@valtmy I would probably choose Yishay. After all, he’s part of a gang-ish group, so he’d know how to get around in tough places and be able to get info from “unsavory characters”. 😛
@seekjustice I think Bathshua would probably be called Vanity (because her life seemed full before, but her father’s vanity – emptiness – consumed it, and also because now her life is truly empty) or Remembrance. I don’t know why exactly Remembrance, but I keep coming back to that for some reason."Sylvester - Sylvester!"
November 10, 2018 at 12:00 am #77895It’s your turn to ask a question.
It seems that both you and @seekjustice are rather forgetful today. 😛
November 10, 2018 at 12:07 am #77896@valtmy 😛 Sorry. Here’s one.
If your character were to star in a musical, which one would it be? (Sorry, Valtmy, I’m not sure how many musicals you’ve seen. But I think you’ve seen a few, right?)
