@seekjustice Oh, I’m sorry!Β You can see you were missed, as you were tagged several times over the past few days. πΒ Glad you’re feeling at least a bit better now.
…
Seriously??Β Oh, but, really seriously?Β Oh my goodness!Β How sad!Β I mean, I can understand and agree with your opinion of Jane Austen, but…what did Lewis Carroll ever do to you?!
Oh my.Β He’s one of my favorite authors.Β Please tell me why you dislike him so!Β And which book(s) of his have you read?
π
"Sylvester - Sylvester!"
November 2, 2018 at 7:17 pm #77564@seekjusticeΒ Welcome back! Yeah, I was sick a couple weeks ago. It’s not fun. π
@jenwriter17Β Yo! I’m not writing right now, I’m mostly here to reply to Rochellaine. XDYou can pronounce it however you want.
November 2, 2018 at 7:20 pm #77565@dekreel Hm, I don’t know.Β I very much like when Kirk starts to go nuts and blend with the environment, forcing Spock to do so as well.Β Especially since Spock admits that logic does not apply in the situation because apparently it would be illogical not to admit that. (?! π )
But the Fizzbin game is great too. π
I noticed something this time I don’t remember noticing before, which was when Cracko (think that’s his name) was rambling about a whole bunch of stuff his lieutenant was looking at him like “He’s great, I’ll baby him, he thinks he’s smart, but he really has no idea what he’s talking about, that’s why it’s good that I’m here to back him up.”Β Even though the guy had like, two lines the whole show, his facial expressions were amazing.Β Did you ever notice Cracko’s lieutenant?

@seekjustice @catwing @alia @rochellaine Anyone up for a word sprint? 10 minutes maybe?I'm a Kapeefer 'TIL WE'RE OLD AND GREY!
www.jennaterese.comNovember 2, 2018 at 7:24 pm #77567@rochellaineΒ I don’t think so! He sounds fun to watch. XD Next time I have a hold on the episode, I’ll look out for him.
You can pronounce it however you want.
November 2, 2018 at 7:28 pm #77568Thank you for your kind words π
I know, I hate being sick but it happens to me with great regularity.
I’m sorry. We can’t seem to agree on anything. Simply put, as a child there were three books I detested as a child because they just seemed utterly ridiculous to me, and Alice in Wonderland was one of them. Peter Pan was another one, but that one just seriously disturbed me. Whereas I just disliked Alice in Wonderland. I guess because I had no idea what it was going on about and I couldn’t see the point.
You may have noticed by now that I am a very picky reader.
All right. Your defence of Carroll? I will hold back my actual thoughts for the sake of this debate.

November 2, 2018 at 7:30 pm #77569Not just now, but if you’re around in half an hour or twenty minutes I might have regained enough strength to attempt one π

November 2, 2018 at 7:36 pm #77570@seekjustice I think I’ll be around then π

www.jennaterese.comNovember 2, 2018 at 7:47 pm #77571We canβt seem to agree on anything.
Oh no, that is too large a generalization.Β In fact, in my last post, I specifically mentioned the fact that I agree with you regarding Jane Austen. π (Did I ever tell you, I once told some ladies I disliked Jane Austen because of all the needless scandals that annoyed me, and they said I’d like those better when I got older.Β Well, I got older, and I didn’t. π )
I’m a terribly picky reader too. πΒ Have you ever read Alice since growing up?Β You might enjoy it more if you read it with your more mature understanding, and knowledge of the fact that it’s actually a political commentary/satire simply resting in the guise of a children’s book.
Basically, it’s nonsense, and that’s why I like it.Β There are so many twists of the English language, puns, and just general randomness that I absolutely adore. πΒ But it is political commentary, so viewing it with regards to 1800s England makes it interesting on a different level.
Anyway, I had a specific reason I asked you.Β Do you remember the poem from Alice, “You Are Old, Father William”?

November 2, 2018 at 7:48 pm #77572@jenwriter17 Hello!Β Sorry, I can’t word war right now.Β My family is listening to a debate between some candidates for the midterms.Β I’ll be on later, though.
"Sylvester - Sylvester!"
November 2, 2018 at 7:56 pm #77573Well, that’s true. We both share unpopular opinions about Jane Austen. Since we’re talking about authors now, what do you think of Rudyard Kipling?
I’ll put Alice on my neverending list of books to try again. Someday.
Though it seems to me it has failed in its calling if its a children’s book that can’t be enjoyed by children π
No, I don’t remember that particular poem.

November 2, 2018 at 7:58 pm #77574@rochellaine Okay. π
Oh, a debate…between who? Now I’m registered to vote so I want to keep on top of these things π

www.jennaterese.comNovember 2, 2018 at 8:15 pm #77575@seekjustice I haven’t read much of Rudyard Kipling.Β But I absolutely loved Rikki Tikki Tavi.Β I actually found him to be quite adorable…which I have a feeling wasn’t the specific purpose of his story… πΒ I’ve read a couple of Kipling’s shorter poems too, such as If. (that is by him, right?) What’s your favorite of his works?
But I don’t think that was what it was intended as.Β I think that, like Gulliver’s Travels,Β Alice was intended as a political satire, but written as a children’s story so that Carroll himself wouldn’t be in trouble with the government as he would if he wrote a straight out political commentary.Β Because it is on its surface a children’s book, he could not be convicted of crimes against the state, or whatever the government did when they didn’t like what people said about them.Β Also, I don’t think even the children’s part of it was written for three and four year olds.Β Alice is a school girl who can easily read on her own, so I believe she is probably eight or ten years old.Β And children of that age in the 1800s were taught much more than we are taught in the present day.Β If you think about it, half the jokes in A.A.Milne’s books aren’t understood by the toddlers we read them to.Β But as we grow older we begin to appreciate them more.
Well, if you don’t remember it, could you look it up and read it quickly?Β It’s a short poem, and you don’t even have to read the whole thing, just a couple of verses.Β There’s a parody of it about WWI that I found recently and thought you might enjoy. π
@jenwriter17 It was just the Attorney General for our state, so it’s not really something you need to worry specifically about, as we live in different states. πOh yes, you just turned eighteen, so you’ll be voting at the midterms, won’t you?

www.jennaterese.comNovember 2, 2018 at 8:27 pm #77577I loved Rikki Tikki Tavi too, mostly because I wish I had a mongoose to keep the snakes away from my house.
I think I’ve read some of his war poems, but that’s about it. Mostly I just really loved The Jungle Book stories. I read the Just So stories too.
All right, I’ll go look it up π
