      @rochellaine

      Oh dear….sounds like the sort of conversation I’d have with my sister. our conversations tend to go something like that.

        @rochellaine  See you!

        @seekjustice
          Well, in my private little war, I got 275 words! Not bad.

        BTW, what musicals would you recommend to me, a total beginner? (Besides Sound of Music — I’ve seen that) 😉

          @dekreel Unfortunately I have to disappear for a bit.

          Good job with the word count!

          I’d recommend  Les Mis, because it’s probably the world’s most popular musical to start with. Do you prefer comedic or serious sorts of stories?

            @seekjustice  Thanks!

            I have no idea. Like I said, I’m a beginner. Maybe something similar to Sound of Music or The King & I… I dunno!

            *sigh*  Goodbyeeeee

              @dekreel On the small chance you are still here I am tagging you…and demanding how dare you ask Seekjustice for musical recommendations without asking me, too! 😀

              @seekjustice
              Are you back yet?

              That conversation actually startled me a bit, since I’d never talked “publicly” about my books before.  I’ve told that one sister some of the plots and plans, and she’s helped me, and one of my brothers (not that one) used to talk with me about them, but really I don’t discuss my stuff with my family until it’s done.  So that was a very interesting experiment, and it turned out very funny.

              How do you like the argument for killing off the nice characters instead of the villains? 😀

                @rochellaine  X’D YES! I am still here! Even though I shouldn’t be

                Well, you were gone! Otherwise, I would have asked you! 😉

                So what do you recommend?

                  @dekreel What are you doing up at two o’clock in the morning?!

                  You’re asking for a deluge in that question!  But I’ll keep it down and just recommend two or three.  First an argument, though: @seekjustice will not recommend any musicals that are similar to the Sound of Music or The King and I.  She thinks The Sound of Music is boring! 😮 So I’m a much better person to ask about such things! (Sorry, Seekjustice. 🙂 Just trying to protect my rights.)  She is right, though, that Les Miserables is great.  She also recommended Anastasia to me, and I’m VERY happy she did!

                  So, just a few of my favorites:

                  • Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.  It’s just as funny as the title!  It was a really big hit when it was released in the fifties, which is when The King and I was made.
                  • Singin’ in the Rain is an extremely popular musical.  It’s about the original switch from silent films to talkies.
                  • Kismet is really funny.  It’s about a poet who accidentally gets taken for a  beggar, finds out that begging pays better than poetry does, and decides to continue to pretend to be a beggar.  Then, since he’s pretending to be the beggar he was taken for, someone kidnaps him because that beggar once “cursed” him, and he wants the curse taken away.  Since the bad luck actually ends up turning good that same day, now the poor guy is believed to be a magician, so he has to find a way to survive amid all the people trying to use his “powers”, which he doesn’t even have, for themselves.  It also has amazing music and amazing singers.
                  • Oklahoma! is wonderful.  It’s set in the time of the range wars, if you know what those are, and is a great period musical.

                  If you end up watching any of those, please let me know what you think!  (And I’ve got dozens more, if you find you like the style of these.)

                    @rochellaine  I don’t know… I have a writing spree…

                    What are you doing at three in the morning?? 😉

                    Thanks for the suggestions! And I don’t mind a deluge, HIT EM!

                    What’s Seven Wives for Seven Brothers about? It does sound funny

                      @rochellaine

                      For the record The Sound of Music is not boring. How can it be? It has Nazis in it and fleeing to Switzerland etc. I just really can’t stand the songs, they drive me up the wall. Except for Edelweiss, that one’s nice.

                        @dekreel ;D What I’m doing is talking to a crazy person who’s up in the middle of the night just like me!  And attempting to convince myself to do a little more writing, but getting distracted.

                        Okay, how many spoilers do you want?  I can say it’s about a seven redhaired backwoodsmen who try to get wives for themselves…do you want more information?

                        @seekjustice
                        Oh, okay. 🙂  I’m glad you don’t dislike it.  Julie Andrews is amazing, in my opinion, though.  And I can’t believe you don’t like Climb Every Mountain! 😀

                          @rochellaine  Well, it would make sense that they want women XD

                          Maybe a little bit of the plot without HUGE spoilers

                            @dekreel I couldn’t remember how I did it, so I just found the description I gave @seekjustice

                            Copied and pasted:

                            The oldest brother of the seven gets married in the beginning, and his brothers decide they need wives too, but they don’t know how to woo the girls of the town since they’re rough backwoodsmen.  Their big brother has been reading all about the Sabine women in a book his wife brought with her when she married him, and advises his brothers to kidnap the girls they want to marry just like the Romans did.  However, he reminds them that since they’re “civilized folks” they have to “kidnap the parson along with them!”

                              No, I’m sorry, I just don’t like them. At all. It is my dearest wish that The Sound of Music is remade as not a musical. Though it does make sense it would have singing in it, since its about singers…just…not a musical.

                                @seekjustice If you like the story and the setting you really should read the book the real Maria Von Trapp wrote.  It’s called The Story of the Trapp Family Singers and is very good.  The story is quite different from the movie, but I was able to enjoy both without complaining that one was better than the other.

                                Have you heard of it?  (She wrote a few other books too, but I haven’t read them.)

                                  I haven’t read the book but I have heard of it and I’ve wanted to read it for ages! Before I came across the book I didn’t actually know the Von Trapps were real people.
