@dragon-snapper Hi!ย I’m here.
This may sound funny, but I’m wondering why you tagged Daeus?ย I’ve never seen him on Writers’ Corner. ๐ย (To be fair, I’ve not been on KP for all that long, though.)
Are you working on your sci-fi novel again?
"Sylvester - Sylvester!"
March 21, 2018 at 3:35 pm #67945@rochellaine Hi!
Daeus used to come on the writers’ corners quite often. Actually, I think they were originally his idea. I was around when the first one came into existence. Every now and then, Daeus will pop on here. …
Of course, we tend to be very distracting on here too. XD
And yep, sci-fi novel. Today thought, I’m editing the first book. I’ll write the third in the trilogy later on today. ๐ What are you working on.

March 21, 2018 at 3:44 pm #67946@dragon-snapper I’m just getting started updating my parents’ ministry website, and in between that (because I like working on multiple things at the same time) I’m working on my western.
We definitely get distracting here!ย But I’ve come up with a solution to that question, which I shared with a couple of others and they liked it: This is called a Writers’ Corner, and that literally means a corner where writers go.ย We’re writers always, even when we’re not writing, therefore we can always be on Writers’ Corner, just talking about random things. ๐ย Do you like that idea?
"Sylvester - Sylvester!"
March 21, 2018 at 3:47 pm #67947@rochellaine Ooh, multitasking. Cool. *nods*
Hey! That is a cool idea! However, because some people–oldies such as myself–still need a place to go to write, we could keep the Writers’ Corner for those writers who are writing, editing, brainstorming or whatnot, and whilst we do that we can do what we always do. Then for when we’re not writing we could make a Life Corner. XD But that we don’t have to make a million Writers Corners for both writing and nonwriting. ๐ That’s my input, although I like the idea. ๐

March 21, 2018 at 3:49 pm #67949@dragon-snapper Oh, that’s not what I meant. ๐ย It’s just a joking excuse that we use when we get too distracted.ย We always come on here with theย intent and purposeย of writing, but when we get distracted we’ve got to have a reasonable excuse. ๐
Because like you said, getting distracted here is way too easy!
"Sylvester - Sylvester!"
March 21, 2018 at 3:52 pm #67950@rochellaine LOL! Oops, sorry. XD That makes more sense now. Yep. Basically. Hey I’m on the Writers Corner. You want to chat to?
There is one way to remedy our chatting though…

March 21, 2018 at 3:53 pm #67951@dragon-snapper And I guess it’s my place to ask: What way is that, exactly? ๐
"Sylvester - Sylvester!"
March 21, 2018 at 3:55 pm #67952@rochellaine XD Word wars. I know you wouldn’t necessarily be able to do that now since you’re multitasking, but by trying to top each others word counts, there’s not necessarily room for too much talking. ๐

March 21, 2018 at 4:01 pm #67953@dragon-snapper Actually, that’s a great idea since I have a huge problem with buckling down and focusing on one project. ๐ฎ ๐
If I wasn’t working on the ministry website I would definitely take you up on that, though I would probably lose. ๐
"Sylvester - Sylvester!"
March 21, 2018 at 4:08 pm #67954@rochellaine Yeah! We should do it sometime. Word wars are great and do really improve writing speed. And I’ve been working on building my writing speed for two years now so… ๐ Anyway, yeah, sometimes I’m not editing and your not working on the ministry website. That’s great that you’re helping with that though! ๐ ๐

March 21, 2018 at 4:17 pm #67957@dragon-snapper When I get to a place in my writing where I’m on the roll and can write several pages in a row I write very fast, but when I get to a “bridge” place in between interesting sections I sometimes will pout and leave the work entirely alone for a really long time.ย Which practice is not at all conducive to completion of my stories!
I type pretty fast, since I’ve been practicing for law school.ย To pass the bar exam they say you have to be able to type 80-90 wpm, but right now I can only type about 60-70 wpm.ย So my favorite thing to do is copy from my notes onto the computer because then I can type out several pages in a very short time and it feels like I’ve accomplished a lot even though I’m only transcribing what I’ve already had written. ๐
Do you prefer typing it all on the computer from the start, or writing the first drafts in notebooks like I’ve seen a lot of people here do?
"Sylvester - Sylvester!"
March 21, 2018 at 4:24 pm #67959@rochellaine Oh goodness, I relate to those bridge sections. It’s basically that way whenever I start a novel too. The first ten chapters are killer. XD I can’t stand those types of scenes.
Wow! Law school! That’s so cool! ๐ Lol Typing fast does feel awesome. ๐
I prefer typing it on the computer. I started writing my first novel from a notebook because I didn’t have a laptop at the time, and moving onto the computer was too annoying because I wanted to change everything. So I like to type it all out, though someday, I want to write a novella or novellette by hand. Which do you prefer?

March 21, 2018 at 4:37 pm #67962@dragon-snapper And even though it’s really boring to write, you can’t let the readers know you’re bored! ๐
I’ve preferred typing to handwriting for a long time, but I also never have planned out or outlined any of my works before, and am just deciding that I need to do at least a little bit of that to make my western turn out well.ย So while I type the actual content onto the computer, I’ll probably be attempting to outline on some paper.
For short stories I often actually type them out on my phone in my Notes app.ย That way I can always be able to write something even when I don’t have my computer with me.ย That’s what I meant when I said I copied stuff from my notes onto my computer. ๐ย One story that I’m working on is just under three thousand words and I typed it all out on my phone during odd moments. ;Dย Do you ever use your phone to write?
"Sylvester - Sylvester!"
March 21, 2018 at 4:41 pm #67964@rochellaine Exactly! It’s so annoying. *headdesk*
Woah. You’ve never planned. I applaud your panster-isms. ๐ I also want to try that again someday. But every time I do, the book fails… so. I don’t know. XD
Fun fact: Snapper doesn’t have a phone. ๐ The one I do have is a little retro flip-phone which takes five minutes to type out a small text. O.O Writing a story with that thing would be torture.
:O 3000 words in odd moments. That’s a lot of ‘odd moments!’ ๐

March 21, 2018 at 4:54 pm #67965@dragon-snapper Well, of course I get ideas and plan in my head for my books, but I’ve never really written more than a paragraph-long synopsis of my plans before starting to write.ย And plans often change during the process of writing.
It worked really well for my kids series, but I think my time travel novel could have used a little more planning.ย The scenes in it are pretty good, but not organized as well as I think they could have been.
So after finding out about KP and reading and discussing hundreds of different ideas here I’ve decided to do a bit more planning for my western, while still trying to retain the freedom of being a pantser… ๐
Oh, haha.ย I guess it would be hard to write much on those, though I’ve known people who could type extremely fast on their flip-phones.
I’m always surprised at how much I’ve written on my phone when I transcribe it onto the computer.ย It usually goes really fast when I use “odd moments” for some reason. ๐ย Maybe it’s just the particular stories I work on that are easy to write.
How’s the editing going?
