No, no its okay. I’m just simultaneously trying to figure out how to respond to you while my brain is trying to figure out what 8% of $85 is and the two are clashing.
I guess the meaning of troll is different for different people so some people might be bothered by it and some wouldn’t. Like, I don’t have a problem with trolls and I’v never thought of them as demons, but I defintely have a problem with vampires.

March 21, 2018 at 2:30 am #67868@seekjustice I definitely understand that, and that’s why I’ve treated my aversion to fantasy as somewhat of a joke here. 🙂 I do like fantasy, though only certain kinds. Anyway, thanks for talking about it with me! I’ll think about it, and if I don’t announce my website tomorrow I’ll do it within the next couple of days.
Now, why would you be trying to figure out what 8% of $85 is? 😀 Are you buying something? Or is this research for one of your stories?

March 21, 2018 at 2:40 am #67869I’ve definitely found problematic elements in fantasy, specifically in more modern fantasy, but on the whole I’ve not had a major problem with most of it. Having said that, I’ve made a conscious decision not to read Harry Potter or any of Philip Pullman’s work, because there are aspects that don’t sit well with me.
No worries 😀 I look forward to it!
Its for math. If you were wondering, the answer is $6.80 and I got it correct.

March 21, 2018 at 2:45 am #67870@seekjustice Um, I just looked up “Troll, the creature” on Wikipedia, and it said the Norse word “Troll” means “fiend, werewolf, or demon,” so now I think I might have to talk to my mom about this thing. I wish Dekreel hadn’t called me it’s “overlord” since I believe Christians can command demons to go away, but should certainly not be controlling them to work for us.
Oh, haha. 😀 Are you still doing math, or are you writing again? I am going to try to do a little more on my short story that I think is almost finished before going to bed.

March 21, 2018 at 3:01 am #67871Okay. I wasn’t really familiar with the root meaning of troll, or what a troll actually is. Definitely talk to your mum/mom about it and you can mention it to Dekreel, if you feel you need to. I think, that since the creature that Dekreel used isn’t really a “demon”, she could easily change it to something that’s just generally mischievous/annoying but not evil.
I’m doing some essay work and a bit more editing before dinner, yes, I finished my math 😀

March 21, 2018 at 3:07 am #67872@seekjustice Yeah, maybe I could just ask her to change it’s name from “troll” to something else, which she could easily come up with since she made up Chasm Beasts. 🙂 It’s funny, I actually said something against mermaids here once, and when I told my mom about it she said she doesn’t mind mermaids. 😀 So anyway, we’ll see how it ends up later.
Cool. I’m going to get a “wee hours of the morning” snack, and then I have to figure out how to get my poor MC’s love interest out of the murderous mess he’s in. Did you hear about that story? He’s been accused of murder, but I’m over halfway through the story and I still don’t know whether he did it or not, or who was even killed! 😮 (I hope he didn’t do it. But if he did, I know it was in self-defense.)
"Sylvester - Sylvester!"
March 21, 2018 at 3:13 am #67873I’m sure she won’t mind that once you explain 🙂
I don’t have a problem with mermaids either, I remember someone else being a bit unsure of whether to have mermaids in their story, but I don’t remember who. So long as the world doesn’t start believing that they are real, which is actually something a startling amount of people believe. As long as it’s clearly fantasy, then I’m okay with them. Same with fairies, elves, etc.
What sort of snack does one eat in the wee hours of the morning? I love the fact that you don’t know whether the love interest killed someone or not. I just couldn’t go into a story not knowing!! I’m half essay researching and half drafting the prologue for Stars‘ sequel (eep!).

March 21, 2018 at 3:30 am #67874@seekjustice I actually ate a breakfast sort of snack: instant oatmeal and a mini croissant. 🙂
Hahaha! Hey, do you always know whether your characters will survive your stories? Yeah, I know. Killing someone is a little different. And at one point I did question whether to have a twist and let him turn out to be a real murderer so she would have to find that out, but decided that would be impossible. 😀 He isn’t bad, I just don’t know whether he was the one responsible for the killing or not.
If you have time, you could read what I have written so far, and you might get a picture of my dilemma. Or even give me advice on how to get out of the mess I’m in…
*squeals* You said it! You actually said it! Instead of the endless planning, outlining, and researching, you are writing part of the sequel?! I love prologues! I really love them. I put prologues in every one of the books in my kids series, even though now I think some of them are kind of weird. 😀 I’m always afraid people won’t read them, though, because I feel prologues are often put in the same category with “Author’s Notes” which no one reads.

March 21, 2018 at 3:46 am #67877Sometimes I plan to kill someone, and then cave in and don’t. With one of my novellas, Comrade, I’ve changed between drafts whether or not a character dies. in the first draft he does, in the second he doesn’t, in the third he does.
Okay, I’ll have a look in a second. 😀
I like prologues too. If they’re well done, sometimes they aren’t and then they’re boring (IÂ always read the Author’s Notes! And the acknowledgements too!)
Oh, and I’ve been meaning to tell you, I’ve changed something slightly in Stars. Basically, I was planning on dropping a bombshell in the first chapter of the sequel where Chessy finds out she’s been adopted. But then I was thinking about it and I decided that Jean would have absolutely no reason to hide her adoption from her, so I’ve made a few tweaks in Stars and she knows she’s adopted now. Just, you know, a small change.
I’m almost finished and I’ll post it if you want to have an early sneakpeek 😀

March 21, 2018 at 3:53 am #67878@seekjustice *laughs* Ohh, the poor guy! 😀
Oh, and a warning: this is completely a first draft, so I haven’t got really any imagery or description or good wording anywhere. It’s just the idea of the story and I’ll edit it once I finish. So it might not be a great read right now. 🙂
Haha! I read the author’s notes and acknowledgements too. Maybe it’s because we’re authors and know what authors have to go through to make the books?
Oh my. That’s interesting. I’m wondering if I’ll like the change, because I do like adoption if it’s portrayed well, but there are a lot of books I’ve read that use adoption badly. (As you now know, I’m in a family that has experienced adoption, so I have definite opinions on that.) Don’t let me scare you, though. 😀 I love a good adoption story! Does it change Chessy’s character at all?
I would love a sneakpeek!!!!!

March 21, 2018 at 4:06 am #67879It’s fine, I’ve read the part one bit and it’s suitably mysterious so far. is this the 50s one with the singer? Or is it a different one?
Yeah, I guess that’s probably why we like it. I also just like knowing where the inspiration came from, or how historically accurate it was and the acknowledgements are just generally sweet.
Ha, yes, I know 🙂 *smiles nervously*. I personally don’t think it would change her personality that much. She was little and doesn’t remember it. Just curious, how old have been the kids your family has adopted, older or younger (toddlers or babies)?
Okay, here’s your sneakpeek! (Completely unedited. Also, despite the fact that I have four younger siblings, and that one is only four years old, I have never been able to master the art of writing toddler’s speech. At least, in a way that’s understandable, so forgive me for that).

March 21, 2018 at 4:13 am #67882@seekjustice No, this isn’t that one. I just found this one a couple of days ago when I was going through my old notes, halfway done, and decided to try and finish it. 🙂 I am extremely random in my writing habits, if you haven’t noticed! 😀 But I think I’ll be able to finish this one now, since it’s been going pretty well.
Okay, yeah, if she was that young it probably wouldn’t change her personality.
They’ve ranged from 4 years old to 12. So the youngest ones don’t really remember before they were adopted, but the older ones do. Also, the first adoption we did was about eleven years ago, I think, so they’re all grown up now. 🙂
*leaves quickly to read the sneakpeek*

March 21, 2018 at 4:27 am #67887I’m very erratic too. When I’m working on a first draft, I tend to knuckle down and finish a novel in six weeks, but when it comes to editing or short stories, I’m so random.
That’s what I figured, but I’m doing a bit of research anyway. I think she was about one and a half to two when she was adopted, I’d have to check my notes to make sure though, so I thought if she could remember nothing else, it wouldn’t really make a difference to her.
How much of a difference do you think the ages make?
I hope you enjoy!

March 21, 2018 at 4:27 am #67888@seekjustice Oh wow. Now I definitely need to read A Tale of Two Cities! (Though I haven’t fully read Les Miserables I have skimmed through most of it, but I don’t really know any of the story of the other.)
I think the fact that you added Chessy’s adoption into Stars is great, because it will link the two books together and make it look like you planned ahead, instead of suddenly conveniently deciding she was adopted to help with the plot of the second book. 😀

March 21, 2018 at 4:31 am #67890@seekjustice I’d love to be able to “knuckle down and finish in six weeks!” Especially with my western. I might be able to if I actually decided to work on that instead of my short stories. 🙂 I just keep getting distracted.
Um, I have a couple of things I could tell you in answer to that, but in order to do so I’m afraid I’d break the “only praise and admiration” rule you gave me when you said I could read it as you went along. 😀
(I did enjoy it!)
