                  Chapter 44

Bruce pushed up his glasses, trying to focus on his English homework. He had skipped two grades, but English was not his strong suit, neither was History.

Science and Math…those were the subjects he was good at.

His glasses slipped down again, and Bruce pushed them back up…again.

They were always falling, but he wouldn’t ask for new ones. He could see, that was enough.

Besides, they’d all put Nick, Phil, and Maria through enough already.

Bruce rubbed his eyes and stood from where he was sitting at the dining room table. He needed to give his brain a quick break.

“Peter, Peter! I’m done with school now, you wanna play a board game!?” Becca called from the living room.

“YEAH!” Peter rushed past Bruce, almost running into him. “Oops, sorry Bruce!”

“No…no, it’s okay.” Bruce replied quietly, following Peter into the living room, where almost everyone else was.

“Vis, can you please grab that book off the shelf? I can’t reach it.” Wanda said, stretching to try to reach a book on the top shelf of the bookshelf in the living room.

Vision set down the duster and turned off the vacuum, having been dusting and vacuuming the living room at the same time.

He reached up and grabbed the book, gently handing it to Wanda. “Here you go.”

                  Wanda smiled.

She’d been much less shy since Vision had come along a week or so ago.

“Thank you,” Wanda thanked, and settled down on the couch beside Pietro, the both of them working on a school project together.

Becca looked up from where she was setting up a board game with Peter. “Where’s Bucky?”

“I think he’s in the kitchen with Loki. He finished his homework a while ago, so he went to help Loki.” Clint replied, laying on the floor, writing a history paper, history books surrounding him almost on every side.

Becca nodded, walking out of the living room. “I wanna tell him something. I’ll be back Peter.”

“Okay!” Peter replied, setting up the board game, smiling brightly from ear to ear.

“Hey Bruce, come here, come look at this,” Tony motioned for him, “I want to know what you think of my project for the science fair.”

Bruce walked over, pushing up his glasses, again, and settled on the rug beside Tony. “Yeah?”

Tony handed him his phone, where he made and kept all of his blueprints.

Bruce looked over the blueprints. Similar to the one Tony had that turned into Vision, but also…different. “What is it?” He handed Tony back his phone.

Tony grinned. “It’s a robot, kinda like Vision. I’m going to make him to help protect people one day. I was thinking of a name…I think I’ll call him Ultron.”

                  Bruce pushed up his glasses.

Something, he didn’t know what, just didn’t seem right about this…as if something would go wrong. “Are you sure about this Tony? I mean, you made Vision by accident.”

“Nothing is made by accident, Bruce. Vision will serve a purpose, and I think Ultron will too, don’t you think?”

“I don’t know about that, Tony.” Steve chimed in, sitting only a bit away on the floor, his Algebra notebook in hand. “I don’t know if you should make that, Tony…what if something goes wrong?”

Tony slightly rolled his eyes. “You worry too much. It’ll be fine, you’ll see.” He winked.

Steve bit his lip but didn’t say more.

“Is everyone almost done with homework?” Loki asked, stepping into the living room from where he and Bucky had been cleaning the kitchen, Becca following close behind, holding Bucky’s hand.

Bruce nodded. “I just have to finish English. It’s in the dining room.”

Sam nodded in agreement, closing his Physics book. “I think everyone’s about done. Why?”

“I thought we could do something fun. Thor is on his date with Jane, and Nick, Phil, and Maria won’t be back for several hours. They left leftovers for dinner, so we have things to eat. As soon as everyone’s done, we can do something fun, how’s that sound?”

                  Bruce nodded and smiled.

He’d love to have some fun.

                  ~*~

                  Pietro laughed. “Nope! Go fish!”

“Aww,” Peter whined, grabbing a card off the top of the deck, but he grinned, “there’s my King!” He cried, proud, putting his two Kings together and laying them on the table.

Pietro grinned and laughed again. This was so much fun! They had already played a few other games since dinner, but Go Fish was so much fun! Even Vision got to play!

He was happy Vision was around. Vision made Wanda not so shy, and Pietro was happy to see her happy…although she did spend a lot of time with Vision, sometimes more than him.

But that was okay! He knew his twin still loved him the most!

Vision reached to grab a card, having received a ‘Go Fish’ from someone else, but stopped. “There are no more cards.”

Loki chuckled. “I believe that means no one picks up any cards anymore. The game will end when no one has cards in their hands anymore.”

                  “That sounds reasonable.” Vision replied.

They quickly got to the end of the game, and it briskly ended. Pietro counted his matches and let out a cheer. “I won!”

Loki smiled, picking up all the cards. “Hmm, I guess everyone who won the games should get a prize.” He tapped his chin. “But what prize?”

                  “Ice cream!” Peter cried.

“Only for the winners?” Tony asked with a smirk, facing Peter, who hadn’t won a game.

                  Peter blinked.

Loki chuckled. “Everyone gets ice cream, but the winners get ice cream first. Does that sound fair?”

“Yeah!” Pietro cried, excited for ice cream.

Loki chuckled and stood, pushing back his chair at the dining room table. “Alright. If someone else can pick up these cards, I’ll go get ice cream. Anyone want to help me get some ice cream?”

“I can,” Steve offered; pushed back his chair, “I’ll help you get some ice cream.”

Pietro grinned, and hugged Wanda, who sat beside him. “I love this home, don’t you Wanda!?”

Wanda looked at Pietro, then the others, then Vision, then back to Pietro. She smiled and nodded. “…I love it.”

                  Chapter 45

Loki took the ice cream out of the fridge and set it on the table, flicking on the lights in the kitchen, still hearing the others talking and laughing in the dining room as they cleaned up the board games and cards.

                  He smiled.

He loved this huge family…even if it got crazy almost constantly.

Steve got bowls and spoons out of the cabinet, setting them on the counter.

Loki gave him a small smile. “Thank you, Steve,” he opened the ice cream container, “I appreciate your help. Are you doing okay, Steve?”

                  Steve slowly nodded. “Yeah.”

Loki raised an eyebrow and a half-grin. “Steve, if you haven’t noticed yet, you’re a horrible liar,” he scooped out a bit of ice cream, “so what’s wrong?”

Steve let out a deep breath, even a bit of a huff. “It’s…Vision.”

“What about him? He doesn’t seem like a threat.”

“Yeah, but Tony made him without permission, and also, I helped him lie and hide Vision.”

“And? It was a mistake, Steve, everyone makes them, trust me. You already got in trouble; you won’t be punished again.”

                  “We were only grounded.”

“Steve,” Loki set the spoon in the ice cream container, “this isn’t Pierce’s.”

“I know, but…still. And also, Vision, I mean…he spends a lot of time with everyone, but…well…”

“Steve…are you jealous that Wanda has opened up to Vision and that she spends more time with Vision than you?”

Steve paused…but slowly nodded, his gaze falling, as if he was ashamed.

“I’ve seen how close you are to Wanda and even Pietro, and Steve, it’s okay to feel the way you’re feeling, as long as you don’t…let it control you.”

Steve’s gaze slowly rose, but he wouldn’t meet Loki’s eyes.

Loki gently grabbed Steve’s jaw, forcing their blue eyes to meet. “Steve, it’s okay to feel all the ways you’re feeling…all of your emotions are important, you know.”

Steve raised a small smirk. “You sound like my therapist.”

Loki chuckled, turning back around to the ice cream, scooping some into the other bowls. “Should I take that as an offense or a compliment?”

Steve laughed. “Whichever way you want to take it.”

“I will take it as a compliment.” Loki replied, dropping Steve a wink over his shoulder. He grabbed a bowl of ice cream and handed it to Steve. “Here, you did win Charades.”

Steve smiled and took the bowl of ice cream. “Glad I did. I’m way past ready for ice cream.”

Loki laughed, grabbing a few other bowls. “Come on, let’s go give the winners their ice cream and then get the ice cream for everyone else.”

Steve nodded and they gave the winners in the dining room their ice cream, quickly going to get some for everyone else.

Loki and Steve both sat down after everyone had their ice cream.

Ice cream was shared over talk and laughter. In the middle of it, Thor arrived back home and joined them with ice cream, talking and laughing as if he had been there the whole time, promising to tell Loki about his date later, with a wink.

                  Loki smirked.

His brother was sailing away on romance.

The front door unlocked and opened.

Pietro jumped to his feet. “Nick, Uncle Phil, Auntie Maria!”

                  He raced away.

                  Loki whistled. “Someone has energy.”

Thor laughed and nodded, turning back around to face Loki instead of Pietro. “That’s for certain.”

Loki gave his older brother a grin.

Footsteps sounded, and Nick, Phil, and Maria walked into the room, Pietro holding Phil’s hand.

Loki rose a hand in greeting. “Welcome back home, we were just finishing some ice cream.”

Maria raised a laugh and smile. “I can only hope you all ate some dinner first.”

Tony nodded, grinning. “We did, then we played board games, then we ate ice cream.”

Nick nodded and smiled. “Glad you all had fun. Well, Pietro, can you sit back down? I believe Phil and Maria have something to tell all of us.”

                  Loki raised an eyebrow. “Oh?”

What possibly could Maria and Phil want to share that Nick wasn’t going to?

Pietro rushed back to his seat beside Wanda, and even Nick sat down at the table.

“Well,” Phil grabbed Maria’s hand, “me, Nick, and Maria have been friends for many, many years. We all worked together to raise Thor and Loki, and now we’re all working together to raise the rest of you…but I and Maria have decided to do, become…more than that.”

Maria smiled and raised her other hand, her ring finger decorated with a bright white and silver ring. “We’re getting married.”

“Wait, what!? No, you have to be joking!” Loki cried, eyes wide.

He’d never expected…wow, this was amazing.

“You’re getting married?” Wanda asked quietly, softly. “When?”

Phil smiled. “In a few months. We thought it was time to finally tie the knot.”

Maria nodded, smiling at Phil. “Exactly.”

Nick smiled. “And everyone will be involved in the wedding somehow. This is another part of our family, and we’ll celebrate as always.”

Thor smiled and nodded, facing Nick. “And tonight, we can celebrate too.” He winked.

“Of course,” Nick smiled, “Maria, Phil, come on and sit down. Let’s play some games and then let’s watch a movie.”

Loki nodded and grinned. “Let’s celebrate.”

I have even more chapters!!! 😁 (alsooo, y’all, totally being honest here, I love writing Logan XD)

                        Chapter 46

                        Steve closed his locker.

It was time to head to cafeteria for lunch. The lunch Maria had packed was in his backpack. She always packed lunches for everyone, even on mornings when she was exhausted.

Wedding plans were fast but going well.

He was happy for Phil and Maria.

                        They all were.

Steve shouldered his backpack and walked down the hall and into the cafeteria.

Tony stood up and waved to him. “Hey, Steve, over here!”

Steve grinned and went over to sit with his friends and siblings.

Peggy smiled at him. “Here Steve, I saved you a seat.”

Steve smiled. “Thanks.” He slipped into the spot between Peggy and Bucky.

“Hey, Steve, I was just explaining, but hey, do you think I could teach Laura here how to use a bow and arrow?” Clint asked, motioning to his new friend, a ninth grade girl with light brown eyes and dark brown hair, who sat beside him at the table.

Laura laughed. “I think you can do anything you set your mind to, Clint.”

Steve smirked and nodded. “I think she has you pegged.”

Clint laughed. “Guess I’ll just have to teach her then.”

                        Laura blushed slightly.

Was that how Steve looked when Peggy talked to him?

Steve glanced at Peggy, who smiled at him. He turned away, feeling his cheeks flush.

Yep, that was exactly what he looked like.

Bucky gave him a grin. Steve elbowed him in the ribcage. He faced Bruce. “Hey Bruce, don’t you have a special medical class later today?”

He felt Bucky elbow him in the side with his metal arm. “Ow, Buck!” Steve hissed.

                        Bucky looked away, acting innocent.

“Yeah, I do, actually! I think it’ll be a lot of fun…hopefully I don’t already know all the material though…that’d be kinda boring.” Bruce replied. He chuckled. “But we’ll see how it goes.”

“I’m going to be working on my project for the science fair.” Tony said with a grin.

Loki groaned. “I’m going to try to not get a D in Calculus.”

                        Everyone laughed, even Loki.

Although truth be told, Steve was struggling in Math too. His last grade had been a D. Tony always tried to help him…but when Steve got to the test, everything Tony had taught him just…left.

Maybe it was because he was so nervous, even if he had no need to be.

Nick, Phil, and Maria said grades didn’t make that much of a difference to them, as long as Steve was understanding most of what he was being taught, especially the important things.

It was a lot different than how Pierce felt and acted about it.

“Maybe this weekend everyone should hang out,” Pepper took a sip of her water, “and we could all play games and do stuff.”

“I think that’s a good idea.” Sam said. “Maybe we could play some football.”

“That’d be fun.” Scott said with a wink, seated at the table next to his girlfriend Hope.

Hope nodded and smiled. “I think it’d be fun, and we could have a bit of a sleepover too.”

Peggy nodded enthusiastically. “That’d be a lot of fun.”

Loki smiled. “I’ll ask Nick, Phil, and Maria about it.”

“Hey there, freaks,” Alec smacked the back of Steve’s head, “and a special hello to you, Punchee Magee.”

“Could you just leave everyone alone?” Bucky retorted, crossing his arms.

“Aww,” Alec whined, “do you not like me, Bucky?”

“Who would?” Tony replied, rolling his eyes.

Alec shrugged. He grabbed Steve’s arm and pulled him to his feet.

“Hey!” Steve cried, pulling away. “What do you want, Alec!?”

“Our fight wasn’t over last time, Punchee Magee, and well…I wanna fight.”

Steve took in and let out a deep breath. “I’m not going to fight you.”

“Aww, why not? I thought you liked to fight.”

He hated violence. He hated fighting. But more than anything, Steve hated bullies.

                        “Leave. Everyone. Alone.”

Alec smirked, obviously amused, obviously in the mood to fight. “Come on, let’s fight.”

Steve’s fists clenched. “You’re a jerk, and your sister is no better. She even chased Natasha away from school.”

Alec’s dark brown eyes blazed. He stepped up close to Steve. “You leave my sister out of this, Steve.”

“Then leave all of my siblings out of this and leave everyone alone already. Besides, at least what I said about your sister was true.”

Alec quickly pushed him up against the wall, although Steve could easily escape, and his brown eyes fading and slowly turning reddish orange. “You don’t bring Alice into any of this.”

Steve shoved Alec away. “Leave us alone, and tell your sister to leave Natasha alone.”

Alec growled, low, and Steve felt a hard, hot fist connect with his side, sending him sprawling to the floor. He put a hand over his side, but instantly pulled his hand away, feeling the heat there.

Alec’s hands glowed…on fire, eyes now fully red and orange. “I told you to leave my sister out of this.”

Sam jumped to his feet, standing in front of Steve. “Hey, Alec, calm down…Steve didn’t mean what he said.”

“Yes he did.” Alec replied harshly. He ducked and punched Sam, hard, sending Sam across the floor, sprawling onto the floor with a loud thud.

Sam groaned, grimaced, and grabbed his arm, which began to bleed. Bruce and Scott raced over to him to check on him.

Steve almost got to his feet, but Alec pressed his foot on his chest. “Stay down.”

Steve shoved him off. “Not today.” He saw Bucky out of the corner of his eye, ready to fight. “Buck, wait, stay out of this-!”

Alec punched Steve again, and Steve hit the wall, side burning from the fire.

Alec’s whole body convulsed with flames. “You’ll pay for beating me up and for talking that way about my sister, Steve.”

Steve groaned, looking over at him. “Alec, wait-“

But Alec punched him again, Steve’s head hit the wall with a thud, he groaned, and his world faded into darkness.

                        Chapter 47

They said Steve and Sam would be okay.

When Nick, Phil, and Maria had arrived at the school and rushed off to the hospital, they said the two of them would be okay.

But Bucky knew they were just trying to make everyone else feel better.

Alec had quickly been suspended from school for two weeks, but still, it wasn’t enough.

Bucky couldn’t focus during football practice.

He kept running out of bounds. He kept dropping the ball. He kept getting tackled.

                        He couldn’t focus.

                        He couldn’t think.

                        He couldn’t do anything right.

He couldn’t do anything except fail.

                        He couldn’t fail.

                        He wouldn’t fail.

He constantly scolded himself, telling himself to do better, ordering himself to pull it together.

The others, especially Becca, needed him. If he couldn’t even focus on football, how was he supposed to focus on anything?

“Bucky, James! Look out! Why aren’t you paying attention-!?”

Bucky heard Logan’s voice too late.

The other student, even taller and burlier than Bucky, maybe even bigger than Steve, knocked Bucky to the ground, hard.

Bucky cursed and heard cloth rip.

He rolled out from underneath the burly senior, glancing at his left arm…the metal shining through the hole, the rip, he had torn in his sleeve.

He looked at his new metal arm. He looked like no one else he knew. He’d stand out too much. He looked weird. Tears coursed down his cheeks. “I hate it.”

“It’s either that, or no arm, James,” Pierce gripped his jaw, hard, unloving, eyes piercing, “and you’ll be grateful for it.”

“Everyone will see. They’ll know you did this to me.”

“It was your own stupidity and Steve’s stupidity that got you this arm, James,” Pierce’s grip on his jaw tightened, his nails digging into Bucky’s skin, “and you won’t be showing it to anyone. If you do, well…you know what kind of punishment you’ll earn.”

Bucky struggled to get back on his feet. His head throbbed. Stupid tears coursed down his cheeks, and he angrily swiped them away.

No one, no one, was supposed to know about his metal arm.

                        No one outside his family.

No one outside of Pierce and the staff at the orphanage.

“Keep practicing,” Logan stopped right in front of Bucky, “Bucky, can we talk? Here, come with me.”

Logan set a hand on Bucky’s shoulder, and he flinched. Logan pulled his hand away.

He silently led Bucky into the locker room, where no one else was, before turning around to face Bucky. “There. No one else is around.”

Bucky removed his helmet and pulled the mouthguard out of his mouth. He didn’t dare look up at his coach and PE teacher. “I messed up.”

“Two of your brothers were rushed to the hospital. I wouldn’t be paying attention to football either.” Logan sighed. “So I’m sorry for losing my temper with you.”

How often had an adult, any adult, apologized to Bucky for anything?

Logan pointed at Bucky’s left arm. “But I do expect an explanation about that.”

Bucky sighed. “…Do I have to?”

Logan glanced around the room, as if he was making sure no one else was in the room with them. “You want me to show you something, kid? It’s something very few people know about, but the deal is this: if I show you, you need to explain that.”

Bucky glanced at his left arm, then Logan, seeing the sincerity, the honesty, in his gaze, and slowly, Bucky nodded. “Fine.”

Logan nodded. He paused for a second, but then gave Bucky a small smile. “Give me a second, I haven’t done this in a while.”

Bucky raised an eyebrow…and slowly, his eyes widened.

Claws were coming out of Logan’s knuckles.

White, long claws, which eventually fully came out, getting no bigger, white, pristine. And just as fast as they had appeared, Logan made them disappear back into his hands, skin quickly covering the spots where they’d come out. “And that’s why the other teachers call me Wolverine.”

Bucky blinked several more times. “I thought it was your hair.”

“Not quite,” Logan sat down on a bench in the locker room, “I was born with these, but didn’t learn about them until I was around your age. I’ve been through a lot since then. But now, it’s your turn.”

Bucky sighed. He hadn’t told anyone the full story…at least not in a long time. He didn’t explain everything to Logan but removed his top shirt of his football uniform and his gloves to reveal his full metal arm.

He left out the details of Pierce making him a soldier, but otherwise told Logan the whole story.

Logan let out a quiet whistle. “Wow, kid. I never expected that much. That arm, you ashamed of it?”

                        Bucky looked away.

                        Ashamed of the arm, no.

Ashamed of what he’d done for Pierce, yes.

Ashamed of how he couldn’t seem to adjust to a new home, yes.

Ashamed of how he’d been experimented on…absolutely.

Logan gripped and squeezed his shoulder. “There were a lot of people who hurt you, kid. It’s fine to admit that. You’re not the only one. I even had people experiment on me. I have metal in my bones, in these claws, that was forcibly injected into me. You’re not alone, kid.”

Bucky slowly faced him. “You always seem so…rough. But right now…”

“It’s a tactic, kid. You act tough, no one wants to get close, so you don’t have to worry about even accidentally letting them in. You act tough so no one gets hurt, so you don’t lose someone else…sound familiar?”

Tears coursed down Bucky’s cheeks, and he could do nothing except nod.

                        Logan squeezed his shoulder again.

Bucky wiped away a few tears…and smiled faintly. “Maybe we should stop pushing people away.”

Logan slowly smiled, a bit sadly, but he nodded. “Maybe so, kid…maybe so.”

I alsooooo love including all of these extra characters (Scott, Hope, Peggy, Pepper, etc.), and I want to include even more, hehe. XD
