The above post by @thearcaneaxiom has put me in memory of a weapon my brother and I developed a while ago. It doesn’t have a name but it was given to my character Alpha by a guy named Abdeel.
It’s a knife, with a blade surrounded by green mist. It can pierce stone, and is a poisoned blade. It chooses one master, and unless the master gives it away, it will never serve another.
While sharp and will pierce the flesh of almost anything, it can never hurt its master, even if the master wills it to.
It’s a mysterious magical blade that always somehow returns to its master, leading to the claim that it is actually sentient.

October 20, 2023 at 5:00 pm #159676A character. He’s cruel to all but his son and daughter. He would never harm his daughter, but his son…He has caused him pain, mental and physical before, but he would never kill him. I did a thing on his son and he a little bit on the Chat Chat.

October 20, 2023 at 5:58 pm #159681My goodness, that’s interesting. In that case, I would barely want to use it. Who are the enemies Liren is killing? Are they human or alien?

I don’t think you’re supposed to want to. The sword controls you apparently, so I don’t think the user has a choice in the matter.

It’s a sword. It’s completely black, as though light doesn’t even reflect off it. It is capable of cutting holes in reality which lead to “Unspace.” You can cut your way back out of Unspace, letting you use this to basically teleport. It cuts cleanly through most objects, sending the area it cuts through into Unspace. Stabbing someone with it will also send them to Unspace.

📚 Appreciator of BooksOctober 20, 2023 at 6:12 pm #159685That knife sounds cool. How does it avoid hurting its master? If it is directed towards them, does it somehow physically halt itself? Or does it pass through them without causing damage or something?
Your crystal swords are also really cool.
I actually have a project that has a focus on crystals. The magic system is crystal based and allows the user to grow crystals on their body and even get them to form weapons. The generated crystals are highly durable and can form an extremely sharp edge.
I think yours are cooler, but both of ours are part of very different systems. Mine are more magic system/biologically based, whereas yours is technological.

To make things worse, the user can’t even warn anyone what it does, because he can’t talk. 😱
One question: does he have to be touching the sword, or does it create a permanent bond, and if so, can it be bonded to multiple people at once?

Not sure I quite get it. Is Unspace the gap between traveling from one reality to another? Also, I remember you saying you were into to video game design, do you use your written ideas, like this sword and Unspace in your games?

I like that. A most loyal sword. Will it follow even its master’s evil intentions of harming the innocent?

I didn’t explain that very well. Essentially, when you are in Unspace, you are outside of our normal dimensions of space. This means that it is adjacent to all spaces, so you are theoretically able to reach anywhere through Unspace, but it requires a way to get in and out of Unspace, which this sword provides. Does that make more sense? You aren’t travelling between realities. I use the word ‘reality’ because I don’t know how else to describe cutting open a window into an endless void that lies outside of normal spatial relationships.
Also, I remember you saying you were into to video game design, do you use your written ideas, like this sword and Unspace in your games?
I don’t usually. My “good” ideas go to my writing usually, and my cliche or unoriginal ideas usually go to my games. Idk why. I guess it feels like there are higher expectations for books than for video games. It’s hard to explain. I actually haven’t done much thinking or developing of my games in a while. I’ve been more into writing lately.
Anyway, short answer: no, I usually don’t use my written ideas in my games, although theoretically, I might want to make a game set in my written universe at some point.

@rae @hanako ( @thearcaneaxiom has already seen this stuff)I’ve also got some cool swords in another of my projects. There are nine of them and they belong to the eight Eivir and the king of Arvendor. (The Eivir are essentially elite knights who directly serve the king.)
Each of Eivir is associated with a different gemstone. Sapphire, ruby, emerald, amethyst, onyx, zircon, amber, and topaz. Diamond for the king. (My current profile pic is their symbol.)
Each of the swords is bedecked with three gemstones of that Eivir, one on the pommel and one on either side of the cross guard.
The swords were created using two separate magic systems (this project, like almost all of mine, is set in a larger universe with several planets) one of the magic systems is the one native to the planet of this story (Adonial) and the other is from a different planet (Oldonar.) Skipping over the details of those magic systems, the end result is that the swords have a sentient spirit attached to them, and they also can infuse their user with power, although there are a few requirements:
- The user must be their rightful owner.
- The user must be in the right mindset. Each of the swords requires a different one. One requires the user to believe in the righteousness of their cause, one requires the user to be angry, one requires the user to feel humble, one requires the user to be motivated by justice, etc.
- The sword has to be willing. Theoretically, the sword could withhold the power even if the above requirements are fulfilled, but the circumstances that that would happen would be very strange.
The powers basically just buff the user in general ways–they become faster, stronger, more durable, etc. While these powers are activated, the user’s eyes glow the color of their gemstone, and the sword’s blade becomes enveloped in that color light. The sword’s gemstones also glow.

Cool! It feels particularly reminiscent of the One Ring to me. It bears some degree of intelligence, and it is loyal to its master, and always seeks to return to them. I second Jonas’s question, in what way does it repel harm to its master? Is it perhaps more of a mysterious influence where if it is turned on the master, something just goes wrong, is there a barrier it can’t cross, or something else?

Interesting. So are you saying that he would make a good wielder, or if he was a sword, it would be this one?
My goodness, that’s interesting. In that case, I would barely want to use it. Who are the enemies Liren is killing? Are they human or alien?
Yeah, as Jonas explained, you never want to touch this thing, no matter how desperate. The sword controls the wielder, not the other way around. Thus, any victims are Kirrtes’s enemies alone, regardless of how Liren feels. Kirrtes will gladly kill men, women, and children without a second thought, and it even enjoys it, while Liren has to live with those deaths, and while he can point the blame at the blade, he still sees himself as the monster. So mostly humans, but anything else as well. If something is in the way, is relevant to Kirrtes’s schemes, or Kirrtes just wants to, it is reason enough to kill. I’ve experimented writing scenes where he’s cutting a tree with Kirrtes, and he feels the tree’s pain.
I have a cool weapon I just invented.

Cool! I love playing with extra dimensional concepts. It reminds me significantly of Itherum stone from the Septrum, which can strip itherum(space itself) from some point, exposing reality to 4 dimensional influence. The itherum absorbed by the stone can then be overlaid on another point in space, causing a multilayered space that creates bazar effects.
That sword is the most evil thing I can imagine! It seems like it was designed to torture the user as much as possible!

One question: does he have to be touching the sword, or does it create a permanent bond, and if so, can it be bonded to multiple people at once?
Yeah, that’s how I’ve designed it at least😅 In world though, there is actual purpose to the experience envelopment, and I can say more about it, it’s just not known to Liren and likely the readers for a while.
Yeah, and something I haven’t mentioned is that he can have partial control with liberties Kirrtes allows occasionally, so it will sometimes let him speak or cry when no one is around, or when it doesn’t effect anything, more out of mockery than mercy though. Kirrtes I think will be stealthy sometimes, but other times, it will be straight forward in attack, depending on what it wants to be going through the victims head.
Great question! It is a permanent bond, but through physical contact. If you look closely at the depiction I gave, you might see a tiny needle peering from the handle. Once a hand has grasped that handle, it’s not letting go. Liren has to do everything whilst holding Kirrtes, even sleep. So no, Kirrtes in its current state cannot be bonded to multiple people. *Says nothing more for dramatic effect, but also willing to talk more if prodded
He is perfect in Justice, yet He is perfect in Mercy, even when we fail Him. For this, He is good.

So is that to say that if it somehow had multiple needles or something it would work? But then the two people would have to walk around holding the sword between them. Or could the evil entity somehow spread to multiple swords that would allow it to control multiple people?
And to clarify: is it a permanent bond only because the sword won’t let the user put it down? Or even if he somehow got away from it would it still be in control?

It becomes blunter than a butterknife, and it does have (though only to a certain extent) a physical ability to resist. It was not made to be a suicide weapon. If you are strong enough to still stab yourself with it even after it physically refuses, the most you will get is a bruise.
Interesting. So are you saying that he would make a good wielder, or if he was a sword, it would be this one?
Yes, very much so. He loves causing pain to his enemies, and will stop at no lengths to see them slowly destroyed but never suddenly killed. I think my littler antag under Grathmere, Vorgan, said it best…
“It took me a long time to figure out how I wanted you to die. An arena battle against bad odds would be too honorable. ‘Terror’ bombs don’t hurt you obviously. Killing you right now with my sword or with a blaster would be too quick and lacks the sport of you slowly realizing that you and your friends and your entire people will fall and die, failures!” Vorgan stopped with a twinkle in his eye as if he knew something Nahim didn’t, some overpowering doom that awaited for the right time to crush that long-standing, wholly warrior nation. “Instead I settled for something better…”
Grathmere is immortal, and so has the power to waste years just letting the Realn come to an agonizing death. Besides, killing them suddenly wouldn’t bring his family back. But it comes to be his mistake, as with this scene, despite what was planned, Nahim arises from Vorgan’s plan wounded, but not dead, and the same shall happen to the Realn.
I be intrigued.
@everyone
After hearing your stuff, I really think my weapons lame. So far , with my WIP, Nahim’s weapons are not really special besides emotional and symbolic connection. He carries a green sword because he got that in the mormaka episode, and it reminds him of that, where he almost died but conquered.
He has a blue one because his parents both had blue ones, and it reminds him of them, and one day, he finds his father’s own sword.
He used to use red, because his teacher used red, and it is the “color of dragons” as his teacher, Dare, said.
As far as fantasy, I haven’t much built on that side…
I like that. A most loyal sword. Will it follow even its master’s evil intentions of harming the innocent?
It will follow through with most of its master’s wishes. The few exceptions are:
1. It will not poison an old master, but will stab them.
2.Certain powerful beings it will not effect
3. It will not usually poison the bloodline of an old master, but will stab them.
4. It doesn’t take sides for itself, rather fighting for the cause, good or evil, that it’s master fights.
@hanako @jonas @thearcaneaxiomWould you guys like me to convince my big brother to come on here and rant about his cool stuff some time? He has like to much for me to count. A lot of warrior stuff, weapons, ships, tactics, armor, almost anything. What do you think? Should I try?

I don’t think your stuff is lame at all! I really like the crystal swords! They’re one of the coolest sci-fi weapons I’ve seen.
