Part two: Of Kings and of Turtles
When I saw what had knocked me down I laughed. The beast knocked me down again, playfully. It was Ezi. My pet Griffin.
“Okay, okay. I missed you too. Now. Get. Off. Me.” I laughed. He was too heavy to still be jumping all over me. I often wondered when I would be able to ride on him. I hoped it would be soon.
“Ezi!” rang out a familiar voice. “What did I tell you about running off and-”
“Elizabeth!”
“File Writer? Is that you?” asked the girl.
I pushed Ezi aside and stood up. “Yes, it’s me.” I smiled, as I dusted off my pants. She smiled back and landed softly on the ground.
Elizabeth was able to fly because she was of the rare race of superhero Kapeefers. She was also one of the many friends that I had made on the island.
“So, how has Ezi’s flying been?” I asked. Elizabeth had volunteered to watch Ezi when she was in the kingdom and I wasn’t. She was also helping him get stronger in his flying.”
“He’s doing great, but a little too fast for my liking.” She gave Ezi a tender pat. He responded by nudging her with his head.
“Well then I guess it’s a good thing you are a superhero.”
“Exactly. We were going to take a couple more laps around the castle Regnis, but if you want him to go with you then-”
“No, no. It’s fine. I can’t concentrate all that well when he’s around anyways. Go, have fun.”
Just as she was about to shoot into the air, she stopped and tilted her head. I was curious of why she stopped, but then I realized that she was staring at something. I followed her gaze.
Just when I had thought that I was used to all the crazy things that happen in the Kingdom of Pen, I was proven wrong.
What I saw was the king of the island, King Daeus. His giant raspberry crown stood proudly on his head. He was just standing there, reading a book. What was weird thing was that a little ways behind him twenty two turtles were slowly marching.
Me and my superhero friend exchanged a look as we approached the king. When he realized that we were in front of him, he held up a finger and kept reading.
King Daeus was not like other kings. Although he was greatly respected and honored by his many subjects, he was also a friend to many of them. He would often include the common Kapeeper in his activities.
Finally, Daeus closed his book and smiled at us. “Hello, Elizabeth and File Writer. How are you today?”
“Hello, King Daeus.” Elizabeth and I said at the same time with a small nod of respect.
“If you don’t mind me asking,” I began. “What are you doing?”
“Why walking my turtles, of course.” he answered happily, as if was an almost ridiculous question.
“Oh. Of course.”
I looked down at B-bot, hoping for him to give me some reason or example of turtles being walked. No response.
“Well, we better get going. I wouldn’t want to hold them up. They do love their exercise.” With this he smiled, gave us a small wave, turned to his turtles, and left.
Well, sort of left. In reality, he walked about ten feet and opened up his book again. I watched as the turtles began to slowly follow.
After a couple minutes of watching the turtles crawl and wishing they would go a little bit faster, Elizabeth looked at Ezi and said, “I guess we should be going.”
“Right. Bye.” I watched them fly through the air. Such speed! Or maybe that is just what everyone thinks after watching turtles go for a walk. I wonder if I should write this down.
I shook my head. Maybe this place could get weirder. Was it possible? I looked down at B-bot again. No, it couldn’t possibly get weirder.

I ran faster to my little Kingdom Pen house. The wind tried to push me in the opposite direction.
“No! No! No! We can’t have a storm in the Kingdom of Pen.” I cried out at the sky. It was, of course, of no use.
When I finally came into the shelter of my humble hut, the strong wind blew the door shut. I quickly closed all the windows, which were all open, well, because: WE NEVER HAVE STORMS!
How was this happening? It was as if the storm follow me into the Kingdom of Pen.
A loud clash of thunder rang out, and a bolt of oddly purple lightning coursed through the sky.
“Rain? Rain! Why?” I exclaimed as I sat on the stool by my desk.
“Well, it could be worse.” I said, finally calming down.
I looked at B-bot, who was hovering by one of the shut windows. “B-bot, how bad does the storm look to you?”
There was no reply.
“B-bot?” Suddenly another flash of light glowed around us. More thunder. Then something quite unexpected happened. As if a misshapen light-bulb had been plucked from it’s socket, the raspberry sun, suddenly disappeared, and everything went dark. We were surrounded by complete darkness.

My family thinks I’m crazy. My sister says, “What are you laughing about?” and I say, “Daeus’s turtles,” and she’s like, “Oh. Okay….”
