@linus-smallprint Well, technically, I wasn’t really shipping them that hard, but I did notice that they could be a couple and assumed it was intentional.
Honestly, it’s actually better this way, that you didn’t plan to have romance. That meant it came up naturally due to your character’s’ personalities and isn’t shoehorned into the plot. You can make them simply friends for most of the storyline and only towards the end have them really go into the romantic aspect of it, if you want.

By the way, did you read what I decided to do with my magic system? You were the one who was encouraging me to keep it the way it was the most. While I have made my choice and am going to stick with it, I am curious to see what you think.

I wanted to support that version of your magic because it was how you originally envisioned it, and there was nothing wrong with it imo. If this version is still within your vision for the series, then I’m good with it.

January 24, 2025 at 4:50 pm #195915Ah, Malan sounds better XD
I assume you mean characters like Thom it the recruitment officer at the beginning?
Yeah, minor characters he converses with. Although sometimes you pull it off quite well, other times it’s not so good.
Hmm. I might include some more in the final version. I’ll see what people think when I share book II.
That was more of a joke XD
I did want to give him more time. In the original, it was a month. But for this one, Cyrus was pushing for it to all happen sooner.
Now that I think of it, it wouldn’t make sense for Cyrus to just wait.
I used to think this was just a thing Ninjago fans did, prompted by an episode where Nya developes a dance for her and Jay and then nicknames it ‘The Electric Jaya’. But I guess not.
I came across them with Percy Jackson lol
“Percibeth” etc.

January 25, 2025 at 9:29 am #195980I think that Alan needed more time to grow in his faith. I know that as a “baby believer” I would not be strong enough to accept what Alan accepted. And I might not realise that Christ can be my strength. So…I loved the ending but maybe not so soon? On the other hand, it goes to show how powerful it can be when someone trusts God.
Honestly, I think this was actually okay. God gives strength, understanding, peace, awareness, revelation, and courage in the time He has chosen for the people who are receiving it.
Just as an example: James, the brother of Jesus, didn’t believe that Jesus was the Messiah until AFTER he died. Philip, one of the apostles, is sitting under a tree, and Jesus calls him. He says, “how did you know me” and Jesus said, “I saw you sitting under the tree” and Philip is up and exclaiming, “You are the Son of God, the Holy One of Israel!” (I love the humor in that story, btw)
So yeah, I think it’s different for different people, and to me it didn’t read forced.
As for romance and Martha and Alan, I think that a pure, un-trashy, beautiful relationship always has a place. After all, the Master of Authors put a romance in His Story.
oh, btw, Martha as a dragon rider. The first thing I did was cringe away from that. Buuut….. it could be done, IF YOU DO IT RIGHT. I really like how feminine Martha is right now. She is a very well-rounded, well done female character. She doesn’t seem like a guy in a girl’s body, and she isn’t a simp or a whimpering wilting violet. I like the mental image of her riding a dragon at one point, and maybe even becoming a dragon rider, but I’d like to see her doing it to move people or things over long distance, or maybe explore, or… idk. Just please something beside dragon riding warrior girl. First, it’s just too cliche and too boring. Have a dragon riding girl do something besides charge into battle for once. Second, if you make her into something like Astrid, it will RUIN her. She is not that sort of character, and to turn her into that would go against the girl we’ve come to know. And it’s just silly.
Okay, there you go. I just had to protect one of my favorite characters from possible destruction. 😉
Man is born for the fight, to be forged and molded into a sharper, finer, stronger image of God
January 25, 2025 at 10:22 am #196003@ellette-giselle I was thinking something more like this when I heard the dragon rider idea:
there’s this dragon in the stables that’s been mistreated or something, and as such it lashes out at everyone that comes close to it, but Martha notices it and is the first one to be truly kind to it, and as such she’s the only one it’ll let near it and stuff.
You don’t have to be “fierce warrior girl” to like dragons. If anything, these dragons are like horses, and no one I know would say “horses are too boyish a topic for girls.” Quite to the contrary, I know tons of girls who like horses.

Oh no, I was not thinking any of those things would work! She’s not a warrior type or sassy or whatever. I figured she can continue to be quiet and timid by herself, the way she always is, but be the only person who uses a dragon for transportation. I thought it would be both funny and interesting in a contradictory sense to have a timid dragon tamer. I once read a book where this very feminine, sweet girl decided to learn knifes because she wanted to protect her sister, and even though she wasn’t the best at it, it spoke to her bravery despite her outward personality. I’m not someone to destroy characterization for a cool female boss if that’s what you’re thinking.
wilting violet.
You use this phrase so often, I chuckle every time. 😂

That would be really cool.
The dragon rider girl warrior trope would not.

YES, exactly, I was thinking of the dragon like a horse. Martha would be brave for taming it and learning how to ride it, not dramatically screaming her way into battle (cuz that’s not Martha).

It’s a British phrase. *important sniff*

Yeah, the female boss trope is just a trope to me, and in this case it wouldn’t work. It does work sometimes, not this time.
It’s a British phrase. *important sniff*
I read far to much British literature.Ah, I see. Well I can understand integrating your reading into your vocabulary. I listened to Huck Finn 4,397 times as a child, and I still accidentally slip into slang. *Spits on the floor in emphasis*
