Also, i taught myself how to read, so the exeperience of someone teaching you in unfamiliar to me.
That’s impressive. I’d never be able to do that.
since many school curriculums don’t quite hit the mark
Agreed. I remember I had a youth group thing called Olympians every Wednesday night at our old Church, and I was six when I started it. All my homeschooled friends didn’t have much trouble reading (I still struggled with some words, and hated reading, but I could still read when I had to) at that time, but the public school kids had a lot of trouble still. I think our youth leaders knew that, because I’m pretty sure they called on either the fifth and sixth graders, me, my brother, or my friends more than everyone else to read the Bible verses.

Don’t even remember how I did it lol, I guess it just clicked in my brain.

yeah one of the books said that like a third of people in the US are only barely literate.

May 14, 2025 at 10:05 pm #202904My mum has complained about how doctors used to constantly tell her she was crazy and imagining things, which also led to self-image issues because they discriminated against her weight gain. I’m sorry you’re going through similar problems. Please update when you want, I want to listen too. <3<3
It’s really good to know somebody gets at least some of what I’m going through <3
It’s honestly sickening. The more time I spend on the internet the more other sick people I meet and I have heard so many accounts of doctor dismissing things and it leading to worse health (or honestly just being rude in general). I’ve experienced some of that myself and its the worst. I wish doctor wasn’t such a prestigious job because I think some people who get into it don’t care much about people. People can gain weight for all kinds of reasons, like hormones ect, and since when does being heavier exclude you from having a major related or unrelated health condition? I feel for your mom : (
A whole slew of things have happened to me recently, but I’m not really comfortable sharing the half of it here just bc a lot of people here are younger and might not know how to understand it. I used to be pretty sharing on here but idk I’ve realized when you’re going through really unusual struggles not everyone looks at it the same. I don’t mind chatting some more (maybe somewhere else?) with you and it means a lot to me that you care : )

I definitely understand from my perspective as a loved one of the sick person.
There is nothing more frustrating than thinking there is improvement, and backtracking for what seems like a ridiculous or small reason. Small things in the diet, or whatever. It’s like the worst form of personal analysis because you have to ask yourself what you did wrong, when millions of other people don’t have to feel low self esteem over those things. It’s not fair.

🙋♀️ Genetic hormone problems here. My mom has become so much more confident and loves to wear quirky clothing, which has also been a huge confidence boost for me as her daughter. I have my own diet problems so I’ve recognized the change in both of us.
A lot of people still have that discrimination levied against them, though.

I get that. It’s also hard to connect with people unless you’re face to face, and very easy to misunderstand. Even past that, my experiences are different.

I wouldn’t mind that! I’m fine with sharing email if that’s your thing, or wherever you’re more comfortable on here.

I’m glad you’re able to recognize it’s different, bc it really is but it’s still so much more understanding than most people have.

Yes, this exactly. I’ve changed diet, become allergic to my new safe foods, tried new things… so many times. I feel shame every time I mess up and doctors can only guide me so much.

Aw man that sucks. That’s so great she’s gotten more confident though! Honestly getting more into clothes helped my confidence a lot too. Like I’m not always expressing my personality but my clothes show it and it feels better that way.

Yeah I dunno. Maybe it would be different face to face but only like a third of my health issues are diagnosed and people only really understand a diagnosis rather than ‘I’m sick all the time’. I usually tell people the diagnosis that sounds the scariest so maybe they’ll get half of it lol.
And totally, your perspective isn’t something I would really understand that well either. My mom and I feel different kinds of pain about my illness, and I understood part of what she was feeling when my sister started having trouble walking this year. It hurts to see people you love in pain.
A lot of people still have that discrimination levied against them, though.
It’s hard to look at somebody and see how hard they’ve tried. We tend to look up to people who have great achievements but I think they people who have overcome the most don’t usually look that flashy.
I wouldn’t mind that! I’m fine with sharing email if that’s your thing, or wherever you’re more comfortable on here.
Ok! I actually tagged you in an activity comment earlier asking you about that so it’s funny we’re having this conversation now lol. I like doing it over there bc it’s easier to delete the message. Email or discord whichever you are more comfortable with is fine!

And I’m fine with you drawing the line between our perspectives because mine doesn’t have the same physical pain at all. I mean, I do have some physical problems developing which perhaps cause anxiety, but that’s more of a mental hurdle. And you’re jumping through firey hoops.

Slay. 😘

Sorry! Just had to do a QUICK keyboard smash 😁
Here’s why!
As you all (probably) know, I am a fantasy writer! And like most fantasy writers, I try to use unique or made up names! So it might not come as a surprise, when you use names from a different language… you might mix up the genders!
And that would be fine to give him/her a new name! For instance: my newest character, Cassius! He has two split personalities! Arnan and Trisan. Arnan means joyous, and Trisan means sorrow. I was originally going to name Trisan, “Trista” (btw, Trisan is a real name) But I quickly learned that “Trista” is a girl name. And I could switch it easily!
But to get to my point… the opposite is for an older character that you have that turns out to have the wrong gender name… As you could probably tell where this is going… My two character… Rapha and Nisi… Rapha is a girl… Nisi is a boy… THEY HAVE THE WRONG GENDER NAMES!!!!!!!!!11111!!1!111!!!!!!!!!!!!
DFB LIJHFEJ BFKNSEBF JKEBFKJLN
And I can’t change it! 😀 *soulless smile* because I’m TOO FAR into my story… And Rapha is already engaged with a guy named Leander, and Nisi is already married to a girl named Camilla… So I can’t just “switch their genders” to fit their names… but why don’t I just trade their names…? BUT I DON’T WANT TO GO ALL THE WAY THROUGH MY BOOK AND SWITCH EVERY INSTANCE OF RAPHA TO NISI AND VISE VERSA!!!! 😭 Plus! To make matters worse, Nisi is the protector of Kaimor (my fictional kingdom) And his name means warrior! And Rapha is the healer of Kaimor…. And her name means healer!…….. See my problem…?
One more keyboard smash 😄

Does ANYONE have a way to help fix this…? I kinda just wanted to rant about this tho tbh…. And maybe I should just keep their names as that…? IDK!!!

May 15, 2025 at 6:44 pm #202952If I were you, I would just keep the names how they are. It’s fantasy. The names you’re using aren’t exactly common names, so I don’t think it matters too much… or at least I don’t think anyones going to chase you down about your characters’ names.
I have characters with all sorts of unorthodox names that I have no real plans to change—I have a feller named Lavender and a girlie named Everett. No one’s killed me yet.
Tradition is just peer pressure from dead people.
May 15, 2025 at 8:15 pm #202955I think it’s fine to keep them. The names are uncommon enough that it’s not very noticeable. I named a guy Emerald once before realizing it’s typically a girl’s name, and I kept it.

Okay! Danke Viel…So you and ducktator gave the same advice… Got it!(I am saying that as a good thing :] ) But thanks! And I guess you’re right… Except, there is a female way to spell Rapha, and it’s “Rafa” (I am not joking XD ) So maybe I could do that…?
Also…
No one’s killed me yet.
HOW DARE YOU USE THOE NAMES D:< I will hunt you down and KILL YOU!!! *BUM BUM… BUMMMM!!* HE HE HE!!!!
Oki doki! Danke! I will keep them! Except, I will change Rapha’s name to “Rafa”!!!! TYSM!

Oh wow. that’s crazy.
You could change it that way, if it makes you happy. It’s up to you.

Oh yeah? Heh heh… well… ima hunt you too down because you’ve already stole two names from me! I have both a Cassius and a Leander (although I’ll give that one a pass because I spell mine Leandr). >:D
Kidding. XD XD

*GASP!* ARE YOU BEING HONEST!!!! YOU GAVE CASSIUS AND LEANDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but those names are so UNIQUE!!! I don’t believe you!! And besides, my Leander and Cassius are COOOLEER!!!!!! He he he!!! Besides! My characters names relate to them!! Cassius means hollow or empty! I bet YOUR Cassius isn’t as hollow and lifeless as mine😎 AND Leander means lion man! And my guy is LITERALLY A CAT PERSON!!!! Plus he is super brave! So… yeah… *sighs* I win…. *sighs again* yeah…. so… you can just, Venmo me all your money…. yeah….

You must believe me, because it is quite true!! Heh heh. I shall send you a picture of them if you want visual proof. 😈

Heh heh heh… mine are very cool. 😌 Now I didn’t pick for meaning, so you win there. My Cassius is a sad, grave fellow… and my Leandr is, like, generally depressed… sometimes quite empathetic. Cassius is one of my favorite characters of mine.
So… yeah… *sighs* I win…. *sighs again* yeah…. so… you can just, Venmo me all your money…. yeah…
(XD)
Humph 😂 lol are you sure you want my three pennies? o-okayy… *sends pennies*
