        There’s a character I’ve really got to kill, but I really don’t want to.

        Contrary to popular writer tradition, I’m not just killing them off because it’s more emotional, it’s legitimately required for the plot to work. Pain.

          We think one might fit: Captain Fry. He’s stocky and grumpy, but eloquent when nobody expects it. And he’s suspicious of the Longtreaders at first, which could translate into Gimli’s aversion of elves. His undying loyalty to them once that’s overcome fits well too!

          Unfortunately, everyone in my family has a different mental image of him, and there’s no official illustration to clarify. XD How do you see him? Or does he not fit Gimli in your mind? ??

                  The worst part is, the character is super fun to write. I could have just killed off a stereotypically ‘good’ character, but it had to be the fun one. I’m so tempted to bring them back, even though it’s against my no-artificial-second-coming policy.

                    okay! So even though it is only linked to two characters, and those characters are for some reason super recognizable, I should still use it?! Okay! Thanks! These are the only apparent existing Celestias btw:

                    I find it funny how they are polar opposites! XD One is all sparkly YAY GIRLY GIRL!!!! and then the other one is a darkly dressed girl, who looks like a haunted doll… (Now whenever I think of my character Celestia I am doomed to think of these two ???)

                      Ugh, y’all. I was listening to an audiobook version of The Guardian by Dee Henderson, and the reader’s voice got stuck in my head. Now whenever I read anything–and I mean literally anything–I hear it in this low, slightly gravely, male voice. Even my thoughts are getting half drawled.

                      The book was good. The reader I wish I could live without.

                          BUT THOSE ARE THE BEST!

                          I know it hurts. I actually refused to write for a whole day the last time I had to do that, but it’s the one that gets everyone because deep inside they know it’s coming and they don’t want it to.

                            @ellette-giselle

                            I’ve always been picky about who to kill off, I’m a strong believer in having thematic reasons and not just irl logical reasons, or even emotional reasons. Can’t just kill them off to make people sad. But this character ticks off all the requirements.

                            Technically I can bring parts of them back. The magic system allows dead character traits to literally live on in other characters. But this character doesn’t want to be a part of the system, and while everyone wants them back, it would be anti progressive and a disservice to their decision.

                              It’s up to you. Most names have been used for popular media characters at some time in the past. Your character’s identity doesn’t ride on how original their name is. But if it bothers you too much, change it.
