I got it into my head pretty early on that it made no sense to marry my relatives. I don’t even think it was on purpose, I think my parents mentioned “you can’t marry your brother or cousins” once and my logical brain was like “oh, okay.” and never once tried to say that to anyone
I was never much for marrying anyone anyway. I just…I can’t see it. I’m far too easily flustered to handle a household.

It’s the next morning now, buut.. XD Maybe because it’s harder to do art and writing in the evenings, you can find a good book and make yourself a cup of tea before bed. I do that sometimes. It makes me sleepy, but not grumpy sleepy.

Riker picked up the note, hands trembling.
‘Nazi,’ scrawled across the paper, written in red ink.
No, not ink.
Riker dropped the note.
Blood.
“Oh, Lord.” Leon whispered.
Someone was after Riker and his family.
And Leon doubted whoever it was wasn’t finished yet.
Lily wrapped her arms tighter around Riker’s waist, sobbing into his white undershirt.
Micah still screamed and cried.
Everyone else was silent, but tear streaks left salty marks behind on their cheeks.
What could anyone say about such terrible circumstances? What could anyone say about idiotic, senseless hatred that stooped so low as to attack an innocent family?
Riker had already paid for his crimes. Was five years in prison not enough?
He hadn’t harmed anyone around. If anyone had a right to hate him, it was Leon.
But no one had a right to hate someone else. No one had a right to hatred, racism, and prejudice.
No one had the right to hurt another person simply because they were consumed by hatred.
Footsteps sounded, and Leon turned on his heel, fists clenched.
The Baumann brothers, and Angelina.
Leon released a deep breath. He unclenched his fists.
“What happened?” Joshua breathed, eyes wide.
Louisa stroked Naja’s hair and glanced at Joshua. “Someone came and vandalized their home…and tried to kill Riker.”
Angelina gasped. “No!”
“Yes, someone did,” Leon tried to mask the anger in his tone, “even covered his face so no one would know who he is.”
Reuben whispered a rush, quiet prayer under his breath and ran his one hand through his brown waves. “…What do we do?”
“They’ll have to come and stay somewhere else for the night,” Leo nodded at his middle brother, “Jakob and Angelina’s home probably has the most room.”
Jakob nodded. “You can come stay with us: the kids are with some friends.”
Wolfgang lightly set a hand on Riker’s shoulder before just as quickly removing it. “We’ll find out who it was…did anyone get hurt?”
Riker offered only a quick shake of his head. He stroked Lily’s hair, silent, almost seemingly numb.
He hadn’t even shed a single tear.
But there was a familiar haunted look in his eyes that Leon hadn’t seen so clearly in years, maybe not since just after the war, if not during the war.

I thought at least 50% of you guys were in high school! But I just learned that ellette is SEVEN TEEN! So now I feel really young (since I am a fresh man in high school!) SO I am honestly intrigued at this point! I am going to guess your guys ages, you don’t have to say if I am right or wrong or tell me the answer if you feel uncomfortable doing so, I just want to tell you guys how old I thought you were first joining/being on for a little while.
