So many people to reply to oh goodness. (: I shall try my best to remember it all.
I asked about the role plays because I don’t really know how common they are. In YWW they have a time each month called Story Day that’s usually 2-3 days where students can RP to their heart’s content for a few days straight. It’s absolute chaos. I was in one called The Pomegranate Saga and it was one of the most insane things I’ve ever done. XD
@kyronthearcanin I was a student for 6 months but I had to leave suddenly at the end of July. I’ve known as ‘Kathryn Peterson’ on there. I am a loyal Amberian. #FORFELIX!!!! Like… one of those realllly crazy people who will do anything within their willpower and within the rules to keep Amber topnotch in competitions. Before I knew I was leaving I jokingly said ‘yeah the other fellowships can’t wait to get rid of me’. Whoops. Maybe my mom heard me. I really miss Ydubs, and on a whim I remembered one of the instructors mentioning Kingdom Pen so I decided to search it out. (: And here I am. What are you known by on Ydubs?? Maybe we have bumped into each other.Alrighty, stuffs about me.
I’m an MK and I live overseas in the southern region of Africa
I make maps of countries, worlds, and my own fictional places (I’ve done Narnia, Aerwiar, the Shire, a handful of countries, and I plan on doing Middle Earth and Hiccup’s Map (HTTYD) sometime in the future. Today is not that day.)
I have been writing since I was 12 and it was mainly because of S.D. Smith. It’s kind of a long and probably boring story, but anyway, I get to put the blame on Sam for being a writer. I also learned about YWW because he made a post about it on Instagram too.
I share a last name with one of my favorite authors.
I have a German shepherd and he is very lazy. He also likes peanut butter.
I’ve been a homeschooler all my life.
I wish I was bilingual but unfortunately I’m not.
I love what some people might call ‘old world’, and I have a soft spot for old fantasy that reminds me of it or is like the perfect blend of old world and fantasy. (Phantastes, The Little White Horse, At the Back of the Northwind….)
One of my favorite words is ‘bumbershoot’. Yeah, I know, it shocked my older sister too.
My other favorite words are: Inverness, Solway, fernweh, Hutchmoot, Inklings, nocturne, Narnia, Aslan, protea…. you get the idea.
I don’t have a blog, but I have an Instagram platform called ‘fernweh.ink’. I share poetry, liturgies, random small pieces of writing, map stuff, etc. I don’t have a lot on it yet, but it’s fun.
Hm… I don’t recall your friend’s name, but that’s neat! And I highly recommend YWW. Even my sister admitted that it was the best thing that had happened to me in a long time. She was right. If it wasn’t for YWW, I would not be anywhere near where I am today in my writing and also in many other areas of my life.
I love Adorning the Dark!! It was so good. You should also read The God of the Garden. That book made me sob…. but it was a good sobbing.
Oohh… I’ve never done dystopian or science fiction, but it would be interesting to try. (:
Oh good grief this is a long post.
My current WIP is the prologue novel/novella for a overall story called The Chronicles of Ellislan. I have a blurb/synopsis for both the prologue story and for the overarching story but I’ll just put those in another post ’cause this is long.
October 2, 2023 at 1:03 pm #157663Alright, here are the two blurb things I have for my WIP/world.
Prologue Story/Davien’s Story (it really needs a name but I haven’t figured it out yet)
When Davien was taken from his tribe, he never could have dreamed how far his role would play in the fight between two nations. Northern Ellislan is on the verge of tipping into civil war again and when the hostility is ripe, a boy gifted in mapmaking disappears without a trace.
Main Story/The Chronicles of Ellislan (I’m also planning on changing the name ‘Dragon’ but haven’t got that far)
Darius is labeled as a traitor among his own people, yet if he was a traitor, why did he come back? Ellislan has been on the verge of a second war for the past two centuries since the alpha tribe split, but now the scales have tipped, and no one can stop the bloodshed from happening again.
Tamara’s brother, Xavier, is the future heir of Dragon, the alpha tribe of Northern Ellislan. She knows that he’s strong and that his heart wants peace, but when he leaves for war, she is suddenly faced with ruling alone. Her greatest fear is that he won’t come back. Violence took her father’s life and she’s afraid that the same monster will take Xavier too.
Xavier has all the missing pieces in his hands. He knows the truth, he’s heard the whole story, but he’s running out of time. The future of his tribe rests on his shoulders, but the only way to reconcile his people is to put his life on the line for a traitor- the traitor who is his friend.
October 2, 2023 at 1:05 pm #157665Oh my YES The God of the Garden was sooooo good!!
Signature is limited to 100 characters? That seems awfully unjust. We refuse to be bound by these ru
October 2, 2023 at 1:05 pm #157666Also, your story sounds really cool!

October 2, 2023 at 1:08 pm #157667Oh, actually, I might know you! Didn’t you draw that awesome map of Aerwiar and all that and put it on the Wingfeather PM??
I’m Ava Murbarger on YDubs!! Also I’m in Amber!!! I’m the same way in the competitions lol, but I might actually be leaving YDubs in May… Still a long ways away, but it goes by fast.
I’m starting to draw maps as well, but I’m going to be doing them specifically for my WIP rather than other books and stuff like that.
Anyway, yeah! XD I’ll see you around KP!

October 2, 2023 at 1:16 pm #157668Oh my gosh that’s hilarious
I should try that! Though my school doesn’t have “crowds”, we’re too small for that, lol. (There’s 120 kids in the whole school, K-12)
Our group isn’t too big either. It’s actually a homeschool group, with about 100 kids… I think?
Yeah… If I’m being perfectly honest, sometimes I casually aim at the boys I like… XD FAVORITISM!!!

October 2, 2023 at 2:14 pm #157670Yeah that was me!!! I finished Aerwiar literally days after I left!
*high fives for Amber* Oof. Yeah leaving is hard. I’ve been able to keep in contact with a close circle of friends, but I really miss the place.
What’s your favorite part in mapmaking? What’s the worst? The worst part for me is drawing trees… They’re so tiny, and it takes forever. The Jungles of Plonst just about killed my hand.

@fernweh_grace Welcome on in!!!
Oh, thank you very much! <3 That is the beginning scene of a short story I may write soon!
Anyhow, welcome to KP!!!! So nice to get to meet you!! 💕💕
October 2, 2023 at 2:58 pm #157693Okay, I thought so!! And that’s awesome!!!
Yes, I know. I figure I’ll give out my email a few weeks before I do leave. I already have some random emails from my mentee, fellow chess players, my accountability partner, etc., but I plan on keeping in contact with some others as well. (:
My favorite part is probably adding all of the small details – a ship lost at sea, castles, other fantastical/sci-fi elements. My least favorite is probably penning, because I usually start with pencil and then trace that with pen once its done. I struggle with digital art of any kind XD so I don’t usually add color or anything like that. This is a fairly old map (at least for me lol). I’m pretty sure it’s from April. Not my favorite, but this is kinda where I started lol.

October 3, 2023 at 2:52 am #157788That’s a pretty good map!! And yeah doing ships and things like that are awesome! (:
Your profile picture reminds me of Kara Swanson’s new book she’s been working on…. I know it has something to do about phoenixes, and it just reminded me of it.
October 3, 2023 at 6:38 am #157790Thanks! And yep, they’re really fun!!
Yeah, I’m part of her street team actually, so I just got a letter from her and all that. I’m probably going to preorder her book too – it looks awesome!!

October 3, 2023 at 8:53 am #157791Oh that sounds awesome!!! I loved reading Dust and Shadow and I know this new story is bound to be magnificent.
October 3, 2023 at 9:08 am #157795I’m jumping into this conversation a little late, but just thought I’d mention another RP I’ve been in that just recently started. I didn’t start it, but it’s called Characters of England/ A 19th Century Role Play. Idk if that would interest you at all, but the first party just started and then the RP sort of stalled, so it would be pretty easy to add characters and jump in.
