Also cannot see how handing him a mallet would be a good idea. XD
But I am so enjoying this anyway.

Any paint can be finger paint if you don't care enough
August 12, 2026 at 3:59 pm #213256Ari would be allowed to be fully annoyed and pummel the kid, if that was in line with his character. My character does not have plot armor.

One very stupid person thinks it’s a great idea.

actually not sure how he’s going to respond yet.Ari
He rolled his eyes. He’d warned the kid enough. If he waited much longer the other students would start to question the validity of his threats. And Ari never gave empty threats.
Besides, this morning was testing his patience already. He would feel better outside.
He leaned out to catch one of the hanging climbing ropes and wrapped it loosely around the Archer’s arm guard on his left arm. Then, he fell.
The rope slowed his descent. Still, the floor stung as he rolled smoothly to his feet. The slight pain cleared his mind.
“Don’t melt on the floor like a waterspout.” He paused mid stride in front of Remington. The boy was small enough Ari was tempted to ruffle his perfectly combed hair. “Go badger some of other Lord ling with more time and less backbone.”
He shoved him lightly out of the way and stalked off towards the courtyard.

August 12, 2026 at 4:25 pm #213260The thing is, Ari is highly unlikely to actually beat up someone smaller than himself on purpose unless seriously provoked.
Which is probably a good thing for Remington’s health.

That would trigger a very mixed reaction, haha

That’s what I figured.
Remington
“I already have,” Remington said.
He was losing motivation to sound cheerful. It seemed like nothing worked on these people. He had forgotten how difficult it was to keep close acquaintances in this place.
But surely the last couple years had been better than he remembered, right?
Yes, yes, hanging around the school with no friends had to be a figment of his imagination. He could almost remember a group of finely dressed royals standing around him and telling jokes.
Sure, he didn’t remember any of their faces and names, and there was a slight chance that he had just been daydreaming…
“Pff…” Remington chuckled out loud. Him. Without friends? No, no, no.
Remington LaCreux had friends.
I have friends. I am popular. I am a high-ranking socialite and I have many acquaintances and contacts.
On a whim, he whirled around, and scanned the whole gymnasium. There were a lot of people there and surely he was close with some of them.
A group of finely dressed young gentlemen were just walking in. The gentleman leading them was Jasper, the prince in blue. And he was scanning the gymnasium just as carefully, his eyes as sharp as an eagle’s.
What did he want? Certainly not a lawn party game.
Oh no. Not now.
Remington jumped. A few croquet balls fell to the floor and rolled everywhere. Without stopping to pick them up, the king sprinted for the courtyard, scampering past Ari and towards the greenery surrounding the open yard.
He did a somersault and tucked himself behind a bush, careful not to let his shimmery, powdered hair betray him through the leaves.
…
August 12, 2026 at 5:45 pm #213263I just had a thought. What if it was Jasper’s arm that Ari broke on his second day at school?
*Concerned noises*
Ari
He had just stepped outside when Remington darted past him and all but tumbled under a bush. Odd behavior even for this odd buck.
Ari paused to lean against the doorpost as if surveying the pells. Besides, what was the point in escaping into a yard your antagonist had already fled to?

August 12, 2026 at 6:08 pm #213266If I’m being honest, Ari would probably be a lot more aware of what’s going on now if he has hurt Jasper in the past. He would be on a hit list and know it.
Remington
Jasper’s not a bad fellow. Not at all. He was enviable, in fact. Remington just needed to avoid him today. They would be on better terms in a little while – just a little while longer. Then everything would be fine again, and he could enjoy his pleasant, lace-decorated life in peace.
He sighed, relieved. This was a good hiding spot – even if his arms were stuck to his sides and he couldn’t move. It was almost comfortable to be stuck behind a giant leafy bush.
Something pulled at his hair, softly. Then yanked it hard.
”Ow!” Remington shook his head.
There was a loud chirping sound, like a wood whistle, and something flapped hard in his face. A large, angry bird. Then another bird, both pulling at a lock of his hair. They scolded him at the top of their tiny lungs.
Great. He hadn’t realized it until now, but a nest of eggs was lodged in the bush, a few inches away from his nose.
”Stop it! Stop!” Remington hissed. “Be quiet, they’ll hear me! Please? Ew, I hate birds. Sorry, I didn’t mean you, I – oh – ow!”

Perhaps draw it? On a whiteboard or something? Drawing sections of a story as visual arcs helps me sometimes. It’s easier to see everything at once and then focus on the unfinished stuff without getting overwhelmed.

August 12, 2026 at 6:19 pm #213268Honestly, I’ve sort of been feeling the entire time Ari was here that his habits of busting bullie’s noses is as much why he has zero friends as his abrasive attitudes. He’s always on someone’s hit list, and people know it, but he’s also quite dangerous. Like genuinely has can turn fey and deadly.
So like, he has protected kids before and thus gotten respect, but he’s also made enemies and so adds to the distance around him.
I’d just never thought about Jasper and the very real possibility of danger on that end.
Ari
Remington was obviously hiding, though not particularly well. He’d had the good fortune to land himself beneath a nest of protective jays.
But why was the boy king hiding? Ari turned enough to glance behind him and felt a groan deep in his bones.
Today really was the most beautiful day of his life yet. Well, maybe it could be passed up by the time he’d been flogged by his half-brothers, or when he fell from a turret and broke three bones…he’d probably been pushed by his brother.

That’s what I figured. Ari doesn’t seem like a person to cross. I certainly wouldn’t cross him.

Right. I didn’t consider the fact that they might have met each other before. So you don’t know much about Jasper, but Ari is supposed to know something about him. Oops. XD
We could say Jasper is a rising star in the league of intimidating students, but Ari isn’t entirely sure what he’s up to. Jasper is very condescending of other students and thinks his opinions of others defines the school’s social structure. There may have been times last year when they brushed up against each other, and they did not like each other at all.
This is the first time Ari has seen this prince since last year, since the new year just started.

XD An awkward position, yes.

Sounds good!

Uh so, basically the relationship between Berard (second oldest) and Ari is like that between Feanor and his half-brothers. Ari actually has two other half-brothers that have a decent enough relationship with him (taught him to fist fight after the flogging incident).
But don’t worry. He will get help. =D
