I keep thinking of a mix between Edwardian Boarding School Gyms, modern day gyms, and medieval tilting yards.
Martial arts are usually done indoors on mats, which would be quite unusual for many of our characters. Tilting and mele would probably benifit from being outside. Earlier RPs included a large horse/trail riding aspect, so I think there are some large riding pastures. I also think the art instructor slightly misunderstood Wilhelm. I’m not sure how equipped the school is for the various battle forms known to those attending.
Maybe… There’s a huge gymnasium with a climbing wall, giant, break resistant windows for natural light, nets for badminton or tennis and a large, matted area that martial arts instructors often take for classes. One side has wide doors into the courtyard between it and the school that was used in the past at least as a tilting yard. In the courtyard is a line of pells along one side and a wide, sandy area for outdoor sport/fighting. the path from the main school building goes through this courtyard, and exits the right side to go out to the stables, which are naturally beside/behind the gym. The gardens and such are probably near, but walled off from this area, especially considering how expansive they are.
Does this sound good? what would you change or add? @anyone I know the school map is fairly fluid, but I’m curious how this needs to work. It’s a very impressive complex.

I think Wilhelm is wanting to get on a horse. XD He would probably not be thrilled to be stuck indoors.

I really like the idea of setting the gym so it’s half inside, half outside, with the open doors to the courtyard.
How about I try to do a quick drawing of what you described and post it so we have a visual? And we can add/change things as needed.
Having a basic visual would probably be helpful even if the gym was simpler, because the whole school itself feels much more detailed than say, the old fantasy school rp.

So I imagined the gymnasium itself as a huge, high ceilinged building with skylights, all sorts of equipment (mats, bars, climbing wall, a court for various ball games or tennis, a wrestling square, and a few fencing strips), and a door to an enclosed indoor archery range (as that would likely be safer than an outdoor range where there’s more possibility of out of range arrows hurting someone.).
An outdoor area is a great idea that I definitely get behind.

This is a really huge gymnasium, but it makes perfect sense for a bunch of chaotic boys.
A few questions. Should this gymnasium take up pretty much all of the back of the academy? Should it be in the main feature back there or should we put it to the east or west side? Or is it completely separate from the main building?

Sorry if no one wants it to be this hyper specific, but I think it might make roleplaying easier in the long run. If the boys will be in the gymnasium a lot

Hmm. Maybe a separate building? Like maybe they originally had a big hall inside the school, but quickly realized it was way too small for all their needs, so that hall is now a music/orchestra/choir room? They are teaching future monarchs and nobles that will need to lead armies, fight duels, and who knows what else each country will need. Plus yeah…hundreds of teenage boys…
