Here I am changing names on the fly. I can’t decide which one I like best. XD
Wilhelm’s religion is finally developing, in all it’s weird twists.

“King Arthur?” Wilhelm looked up from piling cheese on a piece of bread. “No, I canna say I have. We do not serve the kings of men. Haven’t for ages, since the Order of the Luminous Sword – our order of knights – was established. Was Arthur a ruler of your land?”

He choked. “I’m from Germany!” Seeing that didn’t seem to shed much light on the issue, he continued. “Arthur was king of England, or maybe it was old Britannia then, I don’t quite remember. He was a real king, but over time a lot of legend has grown up around him. Like Robbin Hood, you know?”

“No, I don’t know, but I think I understand what you mean about legends. There are many like stories in my home land. One especially, about a knight who was immortal and killed some evil thing or other. Or maybe he died. I don’t remember. My father rather hates that one. It’s horribly sacrilegious.” Wilhelm munched thoughtfully on his bread and cheese. “Is Germany far from England, or Brittainnia, whichever the name is? Are you allies?”

He didn’t know about Ribbon Hood? Wolfgang decided this must be remedied at once. However, he was soon distracted by the rest of what Wilhelm had to say. “How do you not know much about geography?” he asked with an open face that clearly showed he meant no slight. “You’re name’s German after all.” He didn’t wait for a reply. “England is the name now, and it’s part of the United Kingdom. They fought against us in the last war, and we likely would have won, but then the Americans joined the war and they brought a lot of tanks and better airoplanes. We haven’t fought after that war.”

This is doing much for my worldbuilding.

“Sorry you did not win.” Wilhelm said before he caught himself. He knew nothing of the war, so it would be best to stear clear for a bit. Still, he was curious.
“I think,” Wilhelm began again slowly, trying to decipher the terms Wolfgang had used. What was an airoplane? He shrugged mentally. “We are from very far away. Hold a moment-”
He got up and went to his little desk in the corner. A few moments of searching later, he returned with a wax tablet in hand.
“Let’s see. This is Aldalant, my home country.” He sketched out a shape with a stylus. “This is Tir Muir and the Laithlind. We are friendly with them because we both serve in the ways of Lerreo, the Flame of Enlightening. Still, they were not always honest with us. My father won his spurs there.” He shaped the countries on the coast as he had seen them on a hundred maps before. “To the east is Taş Ülkesi. They are dangerous, and we are sometimes at war with them.”
That one was harder to draw. He gave a vague impression of many connected regions before putting the stylus down
“That is the world I know. Of course, there are regions to the north, but no mortal can go there. We only have the vaguest ideas of what they look like. Any questions?”
He flipped the stylus in his hand and rolled it over the wax, obliterating his rough map. Once the tablet was smooth again, he could pass it over to Wolfgang.

He almost made a retort about the war comment, but the map caught his attention first. “I don’t recognize any of the countries.” he remarked. “It looks like a map from a story book. And what do you mean no mortal can go to the north? Who says? How do you know they can’t? have you been there? I would go there. Hey, we should go now! I know how to climb out the window and get to the ground. I just need some rope, or we could rip up the sheets and braid a rope. Have you got some food for the journey? And do you, by any chance, have your own gun? I don’t, but I want one. I do have a sword though, I’ll go get it.”

“Nein!” Wilhelm caught Wolfgang by the sleeve. “It is the realm of gods and spirits. If we tried to go, either we would be so lost on the way that we would never reach it, or we would be burned alive upon entering! Do you understand?”
His face had drained of all color, and his eyes burned in his head like twin embers. He gasped for breath.
“Ages ago, we might have gone, but now we have to wait until we die when our spirits go there for judgement.”
He dropped Wolfgang’s sleeve and sank back on the bench.

He laughed. “That’s just stories they tell to scare us. There aren’t any spirits and gods. Those are just in mythology. That stuff isn’t real. I bet there’s something really good hidden there, like I cave of gold… or guns!” He turned back to Wilhelm. “Come on! Lets–– Oh! You’re not going to faint are you! You look sick!”

“Mythology!” It was all he could say for a moment. He laid his head in his hands. “I should kill you for saying that, you know.”
Wolfgang made an incredulous sound. Wilhelm looked up at his friend. “I do not know what a gun is, but I doubt the spirits of fire need them. They do not need weapons. I saw them once. They were beautiful and terrible. They walked through my mother’s garden in the early morning like the living forms of stars that had stepped down to earth-” he stopped short. He had only told his brother about that. It felt wrong to tell it to this avowed infidel. Still, Wilhelm was surprised to find that the feeling that overwhelmed him was not disgust at Wolfgang’s words but pity for his ignorance. Well, that and horror at the thought of challenging the Realm of Elisai.

He laughed. “You aren’t serious! You don’t mean you would actually kill me.” He dropped down in front of the hearth and laughed again. “I’ve never killed anyone before. I doubt you would kill anyone. I bet you couldn’t kill. I don’t think I could.” He jumped to the next topic. “You really think you saw fairies or something in the garden? Are you sure it wasn’t some kids playing ghost tricks?” He looked at the seriousness of Wilhelm’s face. “No, I suppose you would have known if it was. You seem bright enough.” He leaned back, bracing his arms, his face sober for just a moment. “Maybe nyads and dryads and all those things are real after all. You think so?”

I wonder how all these boys’ worlds are supposed to connect together, because clearly they know nothing about each other.
lololol, he doesn’t really know any better. He doesn’t stop to think about offending people. In fact, the possibility of other people being offended by what he says has never crossed his mind.

He was quiet for a while. He traced the family arms on his dagger’s hilt. A branch, a hawk, and a star.
He would kill some day. He would probably kill many people. If he wasn’t so distracted by the other part of their conversation, he might have been offended by the charge to his poweress. As it was, he just hoped he would fight with honor like the rest of his family.
The Flaming only visited the truly noble.
“There are two kinds of people. One, of blood.” He held up his scraped hand. The scabs were dark in the firelight. “The other of Fire. Those of fire do not die or grow old. They are divine servants of the Lord of Light, Elisai. It must have been some of them I saw. Nyads and dryads and all those folk are ways people try to explain the Flaming, or they are in my world. I don’t know about here. Perchance someone has them confused.”

Yeah. I was picturing that it’s possible to go from one world to the other. Many worlds don’t know about each other. But some are very familiar with each other, to the point where countries from different worlds could conquer and take over each other. Which now that I think about it is actually a cool fantasy concept… Oooo…
I’m pretty certain Jasper’s country knows how to conquer otherworldly countries.
