There we go! That was very, very unnecessary and complicated so sorry Jonas! Anyways….I blame Wyoh. She needs to find a better outlet for all her built up anger than eating posts XD

LEFSE FOREVER!!!!!! <333November 25, 2023 at 3:07 pm #166875Thanks, Iβll take a look at those. One additional difficulty is that Iβm working with a series, so plotting that is a bit different.

LEFSE FOREVER!!!!!! <333November 25, 2023 at 3:13 pm #166879Yeah, three-act structure sounds way too complicated and intricate to be helpful, but the plot points seem like they might be useful. I donβt think Iβve seen that specific way to organize a story before.
Maybe I should try to find something specifically on plotting series.

π Appreciator of BooksNovember 25, 2023 at 3:19 pm #166883I would suggest just plotting each individual book.
I do like 3 act structure, but Plot Points were way more helpful and a better way to get started plotting.

LEFSE FOREVER!!!!!! <333November 25, 2023 at 4:23 pm #166900True, but there still has to be some overarching plot structure. For example, there is no inciting incident really in the second or third books.

π Appreciator of BooksNovember 25, 2023 at 4:31 pm #166902That makes sense. Maybe just plot out the whole series as if it were just one book, then elaborate on plot points? Sorry if this isn’t helpful XD I haven’t even made it halfway through the first draft sooo I don’t have enough experience lol

#AnduthForever (hopefully π)November 26, 2023 at 6:05 pm #167053I’m not quite sure I get what the “First Plot Point” is and how it’s different from the “Hook.” It says that it “pushes the main character into the central conflict.” Isn’t that what a hook/inciting incident does?

π Appreciator of BooksNovember 26, 2023 at 7:23 pm #167066Hmm. Good question. I’m not exactly sure how to explain it,
partly because I don’t understand it that well. But from what I understand, the Hook is what grabs the reader’s attention. Like in my story, for example, the “hook” would be when Neveah gives birth to Hanna. It disrupts Sef’s natural world, however, it doesn’t really force her to take action in any way.The First Plot Point is when another incident shoves your character right into the middle of conflict. Like in my story, the Great One sends a messenger that tells Sef to leave her home and take action before she becomes enslaved to the Pythonos forever.
I’m not sure if that answers your question, but hopefully that was helpful in some way.

LEFSE FOREVER!!!!!! <333November 26, 2023 at 7:27 pm #167070Okay, so the hook isnβt exactly a plot point, and the first plot point is basically the inciting incident?

π Appreciator of BooksNovember 26, 2023 at 7:30 pm #167073The website says that the Hook is the inciting incident (so maybe I plotted wrong, XD). Apparently the First Plot Point is the point of no return, where your character takes action and there’s no going back. It’s the first significant event of the story.
