Ok…so I’m working on a short story that takes place in the time when Bucky was staying in Romania, and because I can’t handle the idea of him being alone all that time, he befriends an elderly Romanian couple that treats him as if he was their own son…and y’all, I love it already

It’s not finished, so I won’t share the whole thing, but I do have a part I wanted to share, so let me know what y’all think <3:

Ana helped Iosif set up the tree as Bucky watched, but when Ana opened up the box of lights and ornaments…Bucky’s eyes lit up.

He stared at the ornaments and lights with childlike awe, his blue eyes filled with a spark of innocence.

He reached for the lights but pulled his hand away.

Ana smiled, seated in a chair beside the undecorated tree. “Go on, dear…don’t be afraid.”

Bucky gently pulled the lights out, blue eyes even brighter. He played with the lights, twirling them with his fingers, for several minutes, smiling from ear to ear.

Awed…he played with the lights as if he were young, still new to everything in the world.

                My precious boi…😭💗💗🥹

Ok y’all…I’ve got a small short story (that I shared a quick snippet of), a short story that takes place in the time of Bucky being in Romania, and bc I couldn’t IMAGINE him being alone all that time…I created a couple characters

and y’all, I am in LOVE with this short story…legit might be the sweetest thing I’ve ever written. Here y’all go, my new short story fanfic, Gentle Hands of Love

                          ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Scant sunlight streamed into the room past linen, flowery curtains.

Hands aching with arthritis, seated by the window, Ana set aside her newly crocheted scarf, leaning back in her favorite flower-patterned armchair.

Part of Budapest sprawled out below the apartment, beautiful as it was poor.

“My darling Ana, aren’t you ready to go to the store?”

Slowly, Ana turned to face her husband, Iosif. Iosif smiled at her from underneath a plain gray fedora, leaning on his cane. She couldn’t help but smile at her husband. Fifty years of marriage…and oh, he was still the handsomest man in all of Romania.

                          “Give me one moment, Iosif.”

She began to stand, trying to ignore the pain in her hips, lower back, and even her hands. Oh, what she wouldn’t give to be young again.

Ana plopped a simple gray cloche hat on her head and grabbed her plain leather purse.

Iosif smiled and held the door open for her.

Aching with each step, smiling through her pain, Ana went out the door, leaving her small apartment.

Iosif closed the door behind them.

                          ~*~

Ana carried a few groceries, forcing herself up the stairs beside her husband.

The cold of winter made her arthritis flare. At least she had Christmas to look forward to.

Her two daughters, and their husbands were coming. Oh, and all of Ana and Iosif’s grandchildren! Ana loved her grandchildren more than anyone else…her precious gifts from Heaven.

Ana stepped off the final stair, Iosif following close behind. Their apartment was only a few more steps away.

Ana stepped forward towards the apartment. She thudded into another figure, gasped, and all of the groceries in her hands scattered across the floor.

                          “Oh goodness…” she breathed.

“Oh, Ana, you must be careful.” Iosif softly chided.

Another voice, younger and tainted with an ounce of fear, sounded. “I’m so sorry.”

Ana turned to face the one who had spoken, the figure she had run into.

A youth…couldn’t have been any older than twenty-eight. Rough stubble showed that he hadn’t shaved in a while, and shoulder-length brown locks proved that he hadn’t cut his hair in a long time either.

Ana shook her head. “Oh, not your fault, my dear. I should watch where I am going…do not fret.”

She bent to pick up her groceries, flinched from the pain, and straightened back up. She could pick up her groceries…she just needed a minute.

The brunette got onto his hands and knees and quickly gathered the groceries. He held them up. “Here you go.”

Oh, what a sweet young lad! Ana took the groceries with a smile. “Oh, thank you so much, dear…you’re such a sweet young lad.”

“I have seen you before…you live in another apartment on this floor, don’t you lad?”

The brunette nodded at Iosif’s question, but same as he had done with Ana, he avoided eye contact.

                          He seemed fearful…poor dear.

Ana smiled. “Well, my dear, could we have your name?”

                          “…B-Bucky.”

His Romanian was perfect, but his accent was off…and his clothes! “My dear! Your clothes are threadbare…you must be freezing! Please, oh please do come inside our apartment to get warm…we won’t mind.”

Iosif nodded in agreement and smiled. “My wife is correct…the least we can do for someone that helped us gather our lost groceries, and you are a neighbor. You are from apartment 116…I believe the landlord said the units in that apartment wasn’t working.”

Bucky only gave a curt nod.

Ana shook her head and tsked. “That won’t do, that will just not do. Please, do come in our apartment and get warm, my dear…I can make you a bit of tea. We don’t have much, but I will offer what we have.”

Iosif unlocked the apartment and smiled at the youth. “Come on, lad…you don’t have to come inside, but you are more than welcome.”

                          ~*~

                          Bucky’s visits became frequent.

Ana didn’t quite understand the youth’s skittishness, but slowly and surely, he was warming up…and she couldn’t be happier.

He wore a jacket and gloves even inside, something Ana didn’t quite understand, but she did understand that everyone had their preferences.

He seemed to take everything in with awe…almost a childlike awe.

Ana could only imagine his reaction to what she and Iosif were going to do this afternoon.

The second a knock sounded, Ana opened the door and smiled. “Bucky, so glad to have you here again, my dear!”

Bucky walked into the apartment, sporting a small smile. Iosif stepped into the room as Ana closed the door. He smiled at Bucky. “Welcome back, lad…are you ready to help us decorate?”

“Iosif!” Ana admonished; she faced Bucky again. “Come, dear, I’m going to feed you first, then you can help us decorate if you would like.”

                          “…Decorate?”

“Yes, Christmas decorations, lad,” Iosif smiled, “we’d love to have your help decorating this year…”

Bucky blinked several times. “C-Christmas? Decorations?”

Ana turned on Bucky, already preparing food for him. “Dear, have you never decorated for Christmas?”

                          Slowly, Bucky shook his head.

                          That was unimaginable…the poor dear.

Ana set a plate of food on the bar. “Well, eat something first, dear. I plan on spoiling you today.”

Bucky ate quickly, and gently, Ana guided him to the living room where several boxes of decorations sat.

It was beautiful to watch, truly…but Ana couldn’t even imagine that he had never decorated for Christmas…it was a good tradition for so many.

Ana lifted to her feet, hands trembling with arthritis. She gently reached for the lights and smiled. “Come now, dear, let’s decorate the tree.”

She led Bucky through stringing the lights around the tree.

Ana pulled a few ornaments out of the box. She handed a snowflake-designed glass one to Bucky. “Here, dear, put it on any of the branches.”

Bucky took it with even more care than Ana would usually deem necessary, eyes still wide and full of childlike curiosity. Poor dear…he must have never had a Christmas.

Bucky hung up the snowflake ornament, smiled, and turned back to Ana, eagerly waiting for another.

Iosif hung an Angel ornament on the tree and chuckled. “I think he likes decorating the tree, Ana.”

Bucky’s cheeks flushed slightly. “…I-I think it looks…”

Ana smiled and handed Bucky another ornament. “It looks beautiful, Bucky, dear. Ignore Iosif.” She winked.

Bucky smiled humbly. He reached to hang the ornament. The glass slipped from his fingers, and the ornament fell to the floor, shattering and sending pieces all across the hardwood.

Ana stared at the broken ornament…most certainly not the first one broken, especially when her grandchildren helped decorate. “Oh goodness. It’s alright, Bucky dear, that happens-“

She paused, seeing the worry, even fear, in Bucky’s bright blue eyes. Her heart went out to him, and her hand followed suit, trying to tuck a strand of his hair behind his ear. “Bucky, dear…?”

Bucky flinched and pulled away from her touch.

Iosif stepped back into the living room, having gone to get a broom. “Stand back…I don’t want anyone to get cut.”

Ana stepped out of the way and went to Bucky. “Bucky dear…breaking ornaments happens every year, especially when my grandbabies are here to help me decorate. It’s alright, dear…it is.”

Bucky slowly faced her, fear still overflowing from his bright blues. “…You-You’re not mad?”

“Oh, my dear,” Ana rested her trembling hands on Bucky’s cheeks; her eyes overflowed with tears of love, “I could never be mad at you.”

                          Bucky’s eyes shone with disbelief.

Ana gently pulled him down and planted a kiss to his forehead. “I will never be mad at you, my dear…never. You’re like the son I and Iosif never had, my dear, and I will never be too mad at you to where I won’t love you.”

                          ~*~

Sunlight bounced off snow, lighting up the living room.

Giggles sounded as Ana and Iosif’s grandchildren opened presents.

                          Ana smiled.

Oh, how she loved her grandbabies.

Her daughter’s and their families arrived a week early to begin the Christmas celebrations, and Ana loved every minute of it.

Her family welcomed Bucky in, just as she knew they would, and her grandchildren seemed to be major friends of the young man with the sometimes-odd attitude and even more odd accent.

Bucky was still skittish, but Ana had slowly learned what startled him the most, and both she and Iosif were doing their best to keep anything from startling the young man, precious as he was to them.

Indeed, Ana had not been lying…he felt like the son they never got to have. She loved her son-in-law’s, oh yes, she did, but she’d never had a son of her own…and Bucky had filled that spot she’d never gotten the chance to have filled.

Grandchildren began playing with toys, Ana’s daughters and son-in-law’s thanked her and Iosif for their gifts, and Ana turned to Bucky with a smile. “You’re next, Bucky. I and Iosif got a special gift for you, dear. Andrei,” Ana turned to one of her son-in-law’s, “could you go get the box out of my and Iosif’s bedroom?”

                          Andrei smiled. “Of course, Ana.”

He turned and left as asked.

One of Ana’s grandsons turned to Bucky, showing him his new toy plane, and Bucky smiled, sitting on the floor with the kids. Even though Ana had offered, Bucky had refused to take her seat in the armchair.

Well, sitting on the floor would probably work better for his gift anyhow.

Andrei came back into the room holding a medium-sized box. Sounds came from the box, and everyone glanced at it with confused looks, except for Ana and Iosif, of course.

Andrei set the box down in front of Bucky, who stared at the box for several minutes.

Ana smiled and nodded at Bucky. “Go on dear, open your gift.”

Slowly, Bucky opened the box that hadn’t been taped shut.

He looked down into the box and his eyes widened.

                          A soft ‘meow’ sounded.

Bucky pulled a small, beautiful silky white kitten out of the box. He brought the kitten to his chest and held her close, smiling brightly as if he were a young child that had received his first Christmas gift. Oh, the precious dear.

The grandchildren crowded around Bucky, gently petting the kitten.

“What will you name her, Bucky?” Iosif asked with a small smile, his wrinkles making his smile even more soft.

Bucky looked the kitten up and down, brought the kitten up to his cheek, and smiled at Iosif and Ana. “Alpine.”

Ana smiled. “A beautiful name, dear.”

                          “…Thank you.”

“Anytime,” Iosif gently patted Bucky’s shoulder, “it was the least we could do for you, lad.”

Bucky found the other kitten supplies in the box, he began to play with the small kitten, and Ana smiled lovingly.

Bucky was a gift to her and Iosif, a gift from the heavens above.

She and Iosif would care for him with gentle hands of love and cherish him for as long as he was a blessing in their lives.
