C h a p t e r  6

 

“You two have a nice house here, Steve, Wanda.”

Steve gave Sam a small smile. “I think Wanda’s favorite part has been decorating the house.”

“You know I like to decorate!” Wanda called from the kitchen where she was making dinner.

Steve chuckled. “She does…a lot.”

Sam shrugged. “Sarah used to do it a lot when we were younger, still does a little bit.”

“I walk in, and the first thing I hear is you talking about me.”

Sam chuckled and turned to face his younger sister.

Since Bucky had come to Louisiana last weekend, and since Sam’s birthday was coming up, Sarah had decided to come up to New York with her boys, and she, Cass, AJ, and Bucky were coming over for dinner.

Sam gave his sister a quick hug. He turned to his nephews and gave them hugs too.

Steve smiled, walked over, and gave a small wave. “Hey there. I’m Steve.”

Sarah smiled and shook his hand. “I’ve heard a lot about you…from both Sam and Bucky.”

“Hopefully not too much.”

Sarah glanced at her brother with a small grin, and Sam shrugged.

Steve laughed.

It’d been over a week since Fury had called, yet Maria Hill still hadn’t shown up. Truthfully, Steve hoped Fury had forgotten about asking for Steve and Wanda’s help with a mission.

He’d retired for his wife and daughter…and if a mission meant staying away from them and especially if it meant possibly losing them…Steve’s answer had to already be “no”.

Azalea’s telltale giggle sounded. Steve raised an eyebrow and turned his head to see Azalea rush out of the kitchen and run to Bucky, jumping onto him.

Bucky chuckled, said something to Azalea, and walked into the living room, Azalea hanging off of his arm.

Sarah turned to Bucky and raised an eyebrow. “Are you a jungle gym or something?”

“These kids seem to think I am.”

Cass chuckled. “It fun to hang off your arm.”

“Yeah!” AJ cried, in agreement with his older brother.

“See? Jungle gym.”

Steve chuckled. “Have some fun, Bucky…maybe you can entertain the kids for a while.”

“He’s certainly entertaining.” Sam mused.

Bucky scowled at his friend.

Steve chuckled.

Everyone was always a joy to be around.

“Dinnertime, everyone!” Wanda called from the kitchen.

“You didn’t ask for help? I would have come and helped…come on, everyone, let’s go eat this dinner Wanda’s toiled over.” Sarah said, already walking away to the kitchen.

Bucky set Azalea down and followed with Cass and AJ.

Steve lifted Azalea up into his arms. He chuckled and glanced at Sam. “Your sister always like this?”

“Always,” Sam grinned, “but man, how I love her.”

 

C h a p t e r  7

 

Wanda yawned, folding yet another load of laundry.

The week had been so busy, what with Azalea having several cheer meets for school, a parent-teacher conference, watching Morgan, and even watching Cass and AJ for a day so Sarah and Bucky could have a day to themselves.

Sarah, Cass, and AJ were back in Louisiana, but Wanda was almost certain Bucky was still around.

“Mama, can you help me fix Mr. Chocolate’s bowtie?” Azalea asked, skipping into the living room, holding out her dark brown teddy bear.

“I’m trying to fold, sweetheart. Can you ask your daddy?”

“Daddy’s on the phone…”

“Don’t whine, please. Who is Daddy on the phone with?”

Azalea shrugged.

Wanda sighed and set aside the skirt she was folding. She took the teddy bear and fixed his bowtie, handing him back to her daughter. “There we go…all better.”

“Thank you, Mama!”

Footsteps sounded.

Wanda turned to see her husband walking down the staircase. “Steve, who were you on the phone with?”

“Fury. He said Maria Hill couldn’t make it over here…so we need to meet him at Avengers compound…he says it’s urgent.”

“I thought you retired.”

“I did, but I told him that we’d at least consider it.”

“Who do I get to watch Azalea?”

Steve shrugged. “We can find someone to watch her, I’m sure of it.”

 

Wanda walked into the meeting room of the compound, Steve trailing close behind. Fury sat at the end of the long table, his hands clasped together and sitting on the table. “Welcome in, Wanda, Steve.”

“What is all of this about, Fury?” Steve asked, asking the question on Wanda’s mind before she even got the chance.

And she thought she was the mind reader.

“Yeah, what is this all about? You asked for all of us to come here, and then we don’t get any details.” Sam noted, crossing his arms across his chest, seated at the meeting table beside Bucky.

“Yeah…what’s up with that?” Kate Bishop, one of the newest members of the Avengers, asked with a raised eyebrow.

“There is an evil organization that has arisen in recent days. They call themselves the Unified World Saviors, or the U.W.S. for short-“

Bucky rolled his eyes, interrupting Fury. “Not a good acronym.”

“-and they are on a mission to so-called “save the world”. They’re actually trying to demolish the world as we know it, and their true goal is to make a new world that is built upon the ashes and blood of the old world, and they’ve vowed to do anything possible to make that world. Their numbers used to be small, but now they’re multiplying faster than rabbits.”

Wanda sat down in a seat at the table. She grabbed Steve’s hand and squeezed it. “…Like Ultron.”

Fury nodded. “Similar, only they don’t want all of humanity eradicated…just much of it.”

“They sound like the Flag Smashers that were led by Karli,” Sam uncrossed his arms, “so were they formed from some of the members of that?”

“Some of their members were former Flag Smashers, yes.”

Bucky muttered a curse beneath his breath. “Just what we need…more Flag Smashers.”

Wanda raised an eyebrow. “Who are the Flag Smashers?”

She and Steve hadn’t paid too much attention to most news, too focused on raising a family together.

“They were a group of people who believed in a one world order kind of thing. They tried to overthrow governments, and they believed that the world was better during the five years of the Blip. They were led by a teen girl named Karli Morgenthau, and me, Bucky, Sharon Carter, and John Walker stopped them…but apparently some of them are back.” Sam replied.

Wanda slowly nodded. She remembered seeing something about John Walker on the news a year ago or so, but she hadn’t paid too much mind, too focused on her husband and daughter. “But how does this involve us?”

“These people are out to get rid of anyone in their way…and if you think Steve Rogers is free from being considered one of their enemies, then you’re dead wrong, Wanda.” Yelena, another new member of the Avengers, noted.

Steve sighed. “I retired to devote my life to my family, Fury,” he squeezed Wanda’s hand, “and I can’t risk losing them…or them losing me.”

“Rogers, your wife is someone else they will come after…and then your whole family will be in trouble.”

Steve leaned back in his seat and bit his lip.

He was thinking hard…that Wanda knew.

But they couldn’t risk losing their family…they couldn’t.

“I’m sorry Fury, but I can’t do this.”

Wanda squeezed her husband’s hand tighter. “…I agree.”

“If you ever change your mind,” Fury slid a piece of paper over to Steve, “just give me a call.”

Steve stood, grabbing the scrap of paper. “Thank you.”

Wanda stood as well, still holding her husband’s hand. “We’re sorry…but our family is our biggest priority.”

“We understand,” Sam smiled, “so don’t worry about it. Fury, do you have a mission briefing?”

“Right here, Wilson.”

Fury slid something over to Sam.

Steve squeezed Wanda’s hand. “Come on…we should probably go.”

Wanda nodded and followed her husband out of Avengers compound.

 

C h a p t e r  8

 

The house was quiet…too quiet.

Wanda was out grocery shopping and going to an appointment, Azalea was at school, and Steve had taken the day off of work to have a day to recollect himself.

He’d told Fury “No”, but even that was beginning to feel like a bad call.

Of course, he wanted to devote his life to Wanda and Azalea…but if those people did succeed…everyone would be in danger…and his devotion to his family wouldn’t matter anymore.

Steve ran his hand through his blonde locks and groaned.

Why did all of this have to be so complicated?

A key turned in the lock, and the front door opened.

Steve rushed to the front door, quickly taking a couple grocery bags from his wife.

Wanda smiled and closed the front door. “Thank you…that was getting a little heavy.”

Steve smiled and bent.

His lips met his wife’s. “I missed you.”

“I missed you too…” Wanda murmured.

Steve kissed her forehead and walked into the kitchen, setting down the grocery bags he had taken from his wife. “Did you find everything you needed?”

“Mostly. They were out of the normal cereal I buy, but I found something else that Azalea will probably like.”

“She’s not very picky.”

Wanda nodded. “True…how was your day?”

Steve shrugged, putting milk in the fridge. “Fine.”

“Oh? Did anything interesting happen?”

Steve shook his head, setting a package of strawberries in a drawer. “No.”

“Have you been thinking about anything?”

Steve closed the fridge. “Not really.”

“Steve.”

Steve turned around to face his wife. Wanda tilted her head. “What have you really been thinking about?”

“Wanda…what I told Fury…I just…I don’t know if it’s the right call. I know I retired, but…wait a second, you went to the doctor today too…what did he say?”

Wanda raised an eyebrow, setting down a jar of peanut butter. “Changing the subject? Steve…”

“Wanda, can I please know what the doctor said? You know I just want to know how you’re doing.” Steve whispered, walking over to his wife and pulling her into his embrace, kissing the top of her head.

“Well…I got…news.”

Steve shifted, turning to instead look at his wife, searching in her facial features and eyes to see if anything was wrong. “Wanda…was it…?”

Wanda slowly shook her head. “I wasn’t bad…it will just…change some things around here before too long…”

Steve raised an eyebrow.

Wanda’s hands covered her stomach, and she smiled gently. “…I’m pregnant.”

“You…? We…?”

“We’re having another baby.”

Steve smiled and pulled Wanda further into his embrace, his head bent, his lips meeting hers. “Soon we’ll be evenly matched.”

Wanda laughed. “Exactly…but at least we won’t be outnumbered by our kids.”

Steve held his wife tighter.

They had Azalea…and before long, they would have another child.

He’d do anything for Wanda…for Azalea…for the child in Wanda’s womb.

Anything.

it always looked kind of weird, and I haven’t watched it, but it turns out at the end of the movie Thor takes in a girl

I have not, lol, and honestly I don’t want to 😂 The only Thor movie I’ve watched, most of it at least, is Ragnarök…and that was mostly bc I heard it was funny and bc of Loki being on the good side and being such a key character in it 😂😂

y’all…I still can’t decide for my 5-fanfic series apparently…and I’m (once again) thinking it may need to change.

 

i just don’t think anyone will really grow (esp. Sam/Bucky) if Steve stays in the 21st century…

 

why does this have to be so complicated!? 😭😂😅

Stop overthinking this, they’ll grow, and Steve would most likely step back

honestly, I feel like Steve would stay in the 21st century

but he would realize that all the original Avengers have retired, and he’d do the same

but offer advice when needed

but he wouldn’t want Ryo to have to adjust to a completely new lifestyle

and that just made me realize something

Tony, Nat, died Clint retired, Thor left to do who knows what, and Bruce, retired

all the OG Avengers retired, or died *cries*

so I could see Steve taking the realization that it’s time to step down and raise a family with Ryo and Peggy, in the 21st century

@keilah-h it is!! They were the villains in Disney+’s Marvel Miniseries, The Falcon And The Winter Soldier (an amazing show, btw). So yes, they are Canon 😉
