@anatra23 Thanks! Yeah, he’s a fun character.

November 4, 2021 at 5:08 pm #106990Thank you! 😀 He turned out so sweet.
@anatra23 Yeah, eyes can be hard to do. I think this was one of my best attempts at the “photo” look yet. For what it’s worth, there are bunches of step-by-step images online for eyes that I found transformed the way my sketches looked. That and copying detailed photographs.Sorry I have taken so long to reply. It’s really inexcusable.
Oh… getting on here and seeing everyone’s wonderful creations/ideas makes me want to get to writing ASAP.

November 11, 2021 at 3:39 pm #107160Hi, everyone! It’s me again, and I have a question/whatsyoumaycallit. And yes, you can totally ignore this post if you want, I don’t want to hog anything.
Ok, so I know some of us have created animals for our books, whether they’re real, a bit imagined, or wildly different. (I’m one of those) So, I wanted to ask, what is your favorite critter of either your books, or someone else’s?
My favorite creature of mine is the Mountain Guardian Eagle.
Wingspan: 9-9 1/2 feet
Lifespan: 50-70 years
Coloring: normally slate, silver, and white with the beak and talons silver, but about once a century a bird will hatch with gold instead of silver.
Habits: known to protect shepherds and their flocks from the attacks of wild animals including other birds of prey. When a bond is formed with a person, they are magnificent companions. The pride of kings. They don’t forget, and are known to mourn an master’s/companion’s death for years.
Native home: the mountains in the high north of Eirtan.

November 11, 2021 at 4:26 pm #107163@elishavet-pidyon Hmmm, I’d say my Dragonmen–but I have a forum topic for them already. I’ll do the Ailurids. (Aelurus means cat in Latin, so I thought it’d be a good name for a race of catlike creatures.)
They’re humanoid, but usually a little bigger than large housecats. They can stand erect or on four legs. Although they wear clothes, they have fur underneath (but don’t have fur on their faces unless you count facial hair). They have ears like cats’, flexible backs, and tails.
Here’s my cousin’s drawing of one.

November 13, 2021 at 1:48 pm #107196Hi, I’m sorry I’m so late in responding. I saw your post fairly soon, but somehow haven’t replied. *Shrugs* (hard to explain, life is, well life.)
Anyway, your creature sounds pretty astounding. I personally love cats, sooo… (And don’t you love the word Humanoid? It’s not my usual type of word, but…)
And I like how you made a name for them. *Applause* I try to do that, but sometimes I can’t find a good root word. Especially when I’m attempting to use many different languages.

November 13, 2021 at 3:44 pm #107201@elishavet-pidyon Actually, I didn’t come up with the name by myself. I asked on another site what a good name for them would be for them, and someone suggested using words from Latin or Greek, so I searched up Latin words for cat (there are a bunch) and found one I liked.

November 13, 2021 at 7:28 pm #107211Aurrgh!! It ate my response three times!!
Oh I love birds of prey! Those are some long wing and life spans. Does the fact that they mourn tie in with the book any?
Are your Ailurids animals or something like the cloven of Wingfeather? Can they and if they are animals, can they think (like people)?
@anyway
Here is the only creature I’ve created. It’s called a Knettel, and is about the size of a small housecat/fox. It’s jaw is like a snake’s (can dislocate, has fangs), and it’s paws have a sixth digit which gives a talon like effect. Knettels are extremely protective of anything they see as their own.

Lately, it's been on my brain
Would you mind letting me know
If hours don't turn into daysNovember 14, 2021 at 11:05 pm #107248Um… Who’s your main character(s), what’s their struggle, how do you think they will grow, and how do you plan to make your WIP wholesome/lasting.
Ok, a few random questions…
Do you have important/new animals in any WIP?

November 15, 2021 at 3:12 pm #107260@elishavet-pidyon I’ll do this for my current WIP so I can better write it. Thanks for asking me stuff!
My main character is Joey Garcia, a 24 year old worker at a store. I think his struggle throughout the book is to find reason to do something as well as how best to convince someone to give himself up. He’ll probably accomplish both of these goals in an unexpected way. As for good values, I’m sure there’s good themes somewhere in there that I have no brains to explore, probably themes of existence and sacrifice.
Animals. When writing I have decided that Joey has a cat named Mittens. Might change to some other name like Belshazzar in the future.
