Welcome to the first Topic Page for our book club! What’s our book?

Adorning the Dark: Thoughts on Community, Calling, and the Mystery of Making (by Andrew Peterson)
What? This isn’t a writing craft book? Ah, how very astute of you.
No, Adorning the Dark isn’t a book on writing craft. Not specifically. It’s a book about community, on living a creative life, on figuring out what we’re even supposed to be doing here. It also happens to have been one of the most impactful books in my personal writing journey. I hope it will be a blessing to each of you.
If you’ve already read it, you don’t have to read it again to participate. You might like to though.
The book is available on Kindle, on Libby depending on your library access, and in most Christian bookstores.
As a refresher, here’s how things will work:
- First week of the October: book for that quarter announced in a new topic under Book Discussions. (Oops! This one is a little late…)
- First week of November: book discussion question posted in the same topic.
- First week of December: implementation question posted in the same topic.
Unprompted discussion, questions, and implementation is encouraged! I will be monitoring the topic throughout the quarter to answer any questions or offer brainstorm partnership.
This topic will be left open for anyone to complete at a later date. However, after December 31st, I will not be checking back in here. Any questions after that can be asked directly on my activity profile.

October 14, 2026 at 7:12 pm #214294I’ll see if I can borrow this through my library! I was planning to get into my local library this week anyway. Interlibrary loans should give me access to this.
I haven’t read Adorning the Dark, but I’ve heard of it. I’ve heard good things about it. It has a lovely title.

October 14, 2026 at 10:12 pm #214316Ooo, this sounds really interesting. I’ll totally join if I can get my hands on a copy. It sounds like a really good book.
There once was a snail who was depressed and would do anything for his girlfriend. Didn't end well.
October 14, 2026 at 10:36 pm #214318Yay! I was able to find a copy on Libby. Looking forward to this!

First week of November! It’s time for our book discussion question, but first I want to check in with y’all.
How are things going? Any troubles finding the book or finding time to read? Any thoughts or rabbit trails?
*Thoughtful humming*
Here’s the question: What are two bits of this book that have stuck with you as you read–perhaps made you see your own writing in a different way?
Think about it, and take your time answering.
