@evelyn-collins yeah I could tell lol
does that mean she’s also got superpowerful eyesight? Like, with training and a decent rifle, she could hit things from as far away as he can? (For reference, the “10 clicks” Hunter mentions when he first introduced Crosshair is ten kilometers, or about six miles. No sniper in our world has ever managed to pass two miles.)
Where'd I get ya this time? The liver? The kidney? I'm runnin' outta places to put holes in ya.
February 1, 2024 at 2:50 pm #175007dang!!
probably not that far (because she has been diluted by the Nat born DNA *cue creepy palpatine hands*), but I can definitely see her having eyesight close to that.
"Fives, no!" "Fives, YeS!"
February 1, 2024 at 2:57 pm #175013@evelyn-collins yeah I can see her being less powerful since she’s second-gen. But still.
Can you tell I’m really enjoying helping you brainstorm?

February 1, 2024 at 3:00 pm #175018ok so wanna hear some more stuff I have ideas for?

February 1, 2024 at 3:01 pm #175019February 1, 2024 at 3:27 pm #175025@evelyn-collins All right!
So, Leo’s arc here–the story we’re trying to tell with her–seems that she doesn’t trust anyone, and is really aloof. Her mom’s hurt her, Varian’s not the nicest either, and she’s heard about how her dad walked out on her. Is there somewhere you’re going with that? Like, she’s going to have to trust Crosshair that he’ll actually break her out of there if you’re going with that idea. Maybe she’ll have to be a leader to Rylan and probably a bunch of others if Varian either meets his end to the Empire or abandons them once they don’t serve his plans.
The other thing is her age. She’s said to be 14, right? There’s an apparent problem if you think canonically, and that’s where this falls in the timeline. The clones themselves have accelerated aging, which means Crosshair himself is a maximum of 14 years old (and a minimum of 9!) by the time we see him in his show. And even if you were to accelerate Leo’s aging too, that would still make her seven years old, and extrapolating backwards he would’ve fathered her while still teen-aged. And you can’t have a character be older than her parent (and I’m pretty sure you don’t want him to be that young at that point in time), so how do you reconcile this?
Easy. A fan fiction is not canon. You can claim the age acceleration is slower than it is in the official universe, making him and his siblings already young adults by the time the war rolls around. It messes with the TV show’s story some (mostly in that Omega is technically older than them in the show, and in this universe that’d be impossible), but the conundrums created are much easier to deal with than the ones you’d have if you stuck solidly to canon.

February 1, 2024 at 3:27 pm #175026I put wayyyyy too much thought into this lol

February 1, 2024 at 3:28 pm #175027I’d suggest keep her age and change his. It makes things easier.

February 1, 2024 at 3:37 pm #175028Yeah, that’s what I was planning on doing!
Also, here is a thought I had, would Crosshair/Leo also see more color?
"Fives, no!" "Fives, YeS!"
February 1, 2024 at 3:44 pm #175029@evelyn-collins Maybe! I’ve never thought of that, but there are studies on some people (the only ones with the trait are female, but a male could probably be introduced through genetic experimentation, which is exactly what happened) who had extra light-sensing cells in their eyes. It’s called tetrachromacy, and it’s though that those with the trait can distinguish one hundred million colors. They don’t necessarily see new colors that normal people don’t, but the world is much more vibrant to them.
Maybe that’s why Crosshair prefers black and gray–everything else gives him a headache from all the color lol

February 1, 2024 at 3:55 pm #175031And this condition does stem from genetic mutations, possibly the same ones that cause color blindness. I have a theory that the Bad Batch’s mutations would have either killed them or done nothing but make them weird-looking if the Kaminoans hadn’t tweaked their genes to remove the lethal ones and enhance the ones that would help them. Remember, the Kaminoan scientists are masters of cloning. Surely they’ve had tons of “bad batches” before, and this time instead of killing them or leaving them to some other cruel fate, they took advantage of the fact that their powers would be useful in war. The fact that the same mutation can cause both something useful and something harmful depending on where it is and what inhibits it in our world further supports the idea in the fictional one.

February 2, 2024 at 12:26 pm #175070@evelyn-collins oh btw I know you won’t see this till Sunday, but my dad pointed out something interesting about the tetrachromacy thing we talked about.
He said from a tactical/militaristic point of view, it would be a good advantage for Leo and Crosshair, as snipers, to have better color vision. Think of Cross trying to take out an enemy soldier, say a Separatist-supporting local fighter, who’s wearing green clothing and hidden in tall grass. To anyone else, the grass and the clothes are the same color and thus hard to tell apart. But to him, with his enhanced sight (including color vision), he can demarcate the subtle difference between the green of the grass and the green of his enemy and knows exactly where to hit.
Also, does that mean Hunter + his theoretical offspring could have the same thing or something similar? All of his senses were enhanced, not just his eyesight. (As a person with sensory processing disorder, or basically hyper-tuned senses gone rogue, I have tons of weird Hunter headcanons because I can slip myself into his shoes pretty easily.)
