Wow. This is getting intense.
Good chapters!

August 18, 2025 at 2:37 pm #205196Thanks! Have you read all three? Or just the two ones from this morning?
And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who couldn't hear the music
August 18, 2025 at 2:38 pm #205197I commented after I finished the third one. ? Sorry I don’t have much to say.
I’m still eagerly waiting for 618 to join the rebels. ?

Oh, you think he’s gonna do that? Hmmm.

August 18, 2025 at 2:40 pm #205199I do like how in this book, we’re getting to see the perspective of one of the soldiers. This is a strong part of the world building, so it’s nice to get a deeper look into it.
Is it just boys who are taken, or are there girls too? Because I feel like you might have mentioned something about there being a girl at the rehab center but I haven’t seen any girls in the actual training.
By the way, I like the title of this book a lot.

August 18, 2025 at 2:41 pm #205200Yes, I think he’s going to do that.

August 18, 2025 at 2:42 pm #205201@hybridlore I think the girls are taken but not to be soldiers. More like strategists and informants.
"When in doubt, eat cheese crackers."-me to my charries who don't even know about cheese crackers
August 18, 2025 at 2:43 pm #205202Huh. I guess that would make sense.
Ellette, if that’s true, maybe make that clearer?

True.
It is also true, I forgot. We only have one female character so far. Other than what I call “extras.” And she isn’t from the city, so we have a POV blind spot, so to speak.
I am out of signature ideas
August 19, 2025 at 11:40 am #205213That is true, and I have mentioned females a few times, but 618 in not really in contact with them. It will come out a little more now that he works with the Agents, though they are mostly military focused.
Is a POV blind spot bad?
But anyhow, I’m glad everyone likes to see the soldier side of the world.

Nah, not really. Depends on how you handle it. Females are 50% of the population and many of them must be firstborns. We know very little about them. It’s a world building thing, and you’ve had to choose where to spend your effort, so it’s not surprising you haven’t included them.
If you wanted to, all you have to do is include a brief side character where it makes sense to put her. She might work with 618 during the fighter jet tests, or she’s a child at the rehabilitation center.
This might sound horrible! But you can change Leo into a girl. Something as simple as that acknowledges the female population.
It’s up to you whether or not you want to explore this.

Shall post two more today if I can.

August 19, 2025 at 2:21 pm #205219As for the church leaving… they did. They left the city, but there is no place to run to, and while they did go underground, there is still the fact that 1. the will be discovered, it’s only a matter of time, and 2. evil is running rampant and unchecked.
Okay, that makes sense.
Read the Crown and Covenant Trilogy.
My church library has these books. I will check the first one out on Sunday.
Okay, now for the big question:
If you were German Christian during the Holocaust, would you submit under the government, or would you illegally help, even fight for the victims?
I don’t believe it would be right to leave the Jews to the Natzis. God wants us to look after the poor and helpless. (Psalm 82:3-4, Isaiah 1:17, and James 1:27, to name a few)
But I couldn’t fight, lie, or rebel openly in good conscience either.
Romans 14:23 says the following.
But whoever has doubts is condemned if he eats, because the eating is not from faith. For whatever does not proceed from faith is sin.
This isn’t to say that Christians who do choose to fight, rebel openly, and lie are not doing it from Faith and sinning. But I don’t see how these things are right, and I could not do them, or else I would be sinning. However, while I do not have faith that these things are right, I have faith that God is able to provide alternative means of protecting others. Consider the following verses:
No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. – 1 Corinthians 10:13
Therefore the LORD, the God of Israel, declares: ‘I promised that your house and the house of your father should go in and out before me forever,’ but now the LORD declares: ‘Far be it from me, for those who honor me I will honor, and those who despise me shall be lightly esteemed. – 1 Samuel 2:30
Again, I’m not quoting these verses to say that Christians who have different views than mine on this are despising God and not honouring him. I believe you both have decided it is right to openly rebel to honour God. My point is that I believe there will never be a situation where I have to do something I have become convinced is wrong in faith. When it seems there is no way out, I trust God will provide a way of escape.
We can also take a look at some historical instances showing this:
- Daniel: In Daniel 1 8-16, Daniel asked the chief of the eunuchs that he and his three friends would only be given vegetables and water. There is nothing wrong with eating food other than vegetables or drinking wine (provided we don’t get drunk), but Daniel had no desire to be defiled by it. God gave him favour, and the chief allowed it, and in the end, Daniel and his three friends’ health surpassed that of the youths who ate the king’s food.
- George Müller: Believed it was wrong to ask people for money, even if he needed it to look after all the orphans he took under his wing. And yet God provided for him enough to run five orphanages. He cared for 10,024 different orphans in his life.
- Nollie: A sister of Corrie ten Boom’s who helped Jews escape, but refused to lie. Instead of telling the story, I will post an article I found: https://www.writtenlives.ca/better-to-lie-what-to-do-when-gods-commands-conflict/
So what would I do in a holocaust situation as a German Christian? I believe it would be right to risk my saftey and disobey the government to protect the Jews. While I would disobey orders to turn Jews over, I would not kill the soldiers, lie to them, or seek to overthrow them. But I don’t believe I need to either. I can’t say exactly what I would do as each situation could be different. I might do my best to keep any information about the jews hidden and redirect the conversation. I might try to make a target out of myself instead. Maybe I might even witness to them about Christ. But ultimately, I know I can trust God to look after me and the Jews in this situation as he has promised.
