Gabriel
The voices quieted again in Gabriel’s ears. He looked up at Lucy, watching her face as she watched him. “Something wrong?”

Gabriel
His chest clenched, and the voices got louder again. “Yes,” he responded. He pulled up his sleeve, showing her a glowing red vein going down the inside of his arm. “This is why.” He allowed more red veins to glow underneath his skin before extinguishing them again. “They say…they say my birthmarks were a warning, a warning that I would grow into a demon. That’s why they call them ‘devil marks.'”

“I…When my…powers took over, it was enough. And…and they were right.” The voices screamed in his ear again. “Lucy, I don’t have to use blades…I could rip off a monsters head with my power. I choose not to, but that…what human can do that?”

“I could rip off a monsters head with my power. I choose not to, but that…what human can do that?” Gabriel fretted.
“Actually, that’s pretty normal where we come from.” I cut in. I nodded to Soldier. “He snapped a bear’s neck once. A bear. I’m sure you have something similar in your world, but if you don’t, well, they’re quite a bit larger than humans, covered in fur, and very dangerous when they’re angry because of their massive claws and teeth. And he killed one. Yeah, sure, it was a young one, but still.”
“Where I come from it’s not unusual for my kind to be able to kill a creature the size of a yeti–large ape sorta beast, white with thick fur, not sure if you’ve heard of ’em–with one hit. We drove ’em to extinction pretty much. It’s not somethin’ I’m proud of, really, even though I myself never hunted any.” Sniper added. “When I told the kids I didn’t ‘ave any powers, that’s what I meant. A typical Argonite is twice my weight, all muscle. Not like me at all.” He lashed his tail. “Although I’ll give ’em the credit they’re due, somehow they managed to keep a decent amount of that size for brains. My planet was the most advanced of ’em all up until a few years ago.”
“So, uh….I don’t know how to explain that,” I said, pointing to the handprint, “but it doesn’t seem that strange to be strong enough to kill like that. As for the stripes, well…” I held up my own arm and let the colors of the background ripple through. “Have you ever tried to do something like this? Maybe you’re a hybrid. I doubt there’s any Changelings in your world, but odds are there’s something, or someone who can do the same thing as you.”
“Unless they’re all dead and you’re like me. A solitary endling. Not too bad of a life if you’re used to it, but….sometimes a bit lonely.” Sniper mused.
I gave him a look. “I’m not sure if that last bit helped, Snipes.”

May 29, 2026 at 11:29 am #212267i just did another one of the “asked ai to explain the rp” but this time with microsoft copilot and it was legit so funny lol
It misidentified Sniper as “the strong one” because i brought up his kind being strong lollllllll. apparently it missed the part that he mentioned he wasn’t like them.
Everyone else, it got reasonably accurate.
Still a little creepy that it can yoink the info so easily but it messes up enough that I think we’re decently safe.

“Both my parents are human! They say…they say across the sea are different races, but there aren’t any on my island. Not for almost two hundred years. Both my parents were normal…and I…there’s no good explanation from my world…”
The voices were hurting his ears again, he couldn’t hear his own shaking voice.

“Both my parents are human! They say…they say across the sea are different races, but there aren’t any on my island. Not for almost two hundred years. Both my parents were normal…and I…there’s no good explanation from my world…” Gabriel’s voice became shaky and terrified.
“Yeah, that’s what I thought about my parents too,” I muttered, but he didn’t hear it, and it was probably better off that he didn’t.
Interesting that there were other races across the islands of his world….but the fact that there hadn’t been any of them on his own island meant his planet either had absolutely no transport technology, or there was something stopping people from getting there. The no transport tech idea seemed super unlikely–boats were fairly easy to design, much more so than starships, so I guessed there were probably sea serpents or some sort of monster or freaky weather pattern preventing inhabitants of the other islands from getting there.
Weird.
