      @joy-caroline

      Yeah, ofc!!!

      Aww, thank you!!!! I know; I LOVE redemption scenes… I’ll probably end up writing way too many for this series, and only a few will make it into the novels, but I’ll enjoy every minute of it. XD

      Yes, I love being able to connect with Bible characters like this!!! It’s fascinating to get into their heads and personalities through Scripture and our imaginations. 😀

        Ah yes, Wentworth’s letter. That scene (besides Louisa’s fall) is probably one of my favorite in the book. And I usually don’t enjoy romance books…

          It really is phenomenal. The scene where Louisa falls is amazing, too, I agree. 🙂 Do you read much Jane Austen?

            I am so sorry, I almost forgot KP (of no fault of it’s own; life is still nuts).

            I have read/listened to all but Lady Susan, Love and Friendship, and I think one other one. I read Persuasion, Pride and Prejudice,  Sense and Sense ability, and Mansfield Park. I listened to most of those and Emma, Northanger Abbey, and… I think that’s all.

            So yeah, I read a lot of Austen, probably more often than I should, as I periodically reread one or other of her works. =)

            How about you?

              That’s awesome!!! I’ve only read Emma, Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, and Persuasion. Hopefully, someday I’ll get around to reading her other novels! 😀 (maybe I’ll listen to them… I’d probably get through them all faster that way… lol)

                Hello!

                I have suddenly found myself feeling some guilt for the trauma one of my characters is going to deal with.

                You see, as a young child he and his siblings are narrowly rescued from a burning city. And yeah, I think he suffers some burns. Nothing too bad, but since children are susceptible to heat, he has some nasty 2nd degree burns.

                Then I started looking up what the long-term affects are in children who suffer early burns/pain.

                Can I say that pain sounds terrible in medical language? Is it thermal or mechanical? How does the detection threshold change with repeated mechanical stimuli? Etc., etc.

                And now I was too scared to look into the possible mental damage.

                I don’t think he suffers from much more than a fear of fire (it’s what haunts his nightmares), but like I said, I didn’t go into that.

                So, does anyone know what kind of PTSD a child would suffer from losing his world (figuratively speaking) into a mass of flames? And scary war hounds? With mean soldiers?

                Just wondering.

                  @elishavet-pidyon

                  Um … yeah, that would probably be quite a lot of mental trauma. Enough to give him a pretty severe fear of fire, dogs, and soldiers. Children are very impressionable, and having a memory of those things in a tragedy like that would give him a negative association with all of the above.

                  I speak from half-experience — I don’t want to say what it was, but something happened to one my family members when they were young that gave them a severe PTSD about certain things. And even though they’re older now, they still have that negative association.

                  As for feeling guilty about your protagonist’s backstory, I also feel mildly guilty about mine — my female character’s sister was sold into slavery basically, and mistreated by a man who forced her into matrimony. She then died in childbirth. Which has given my female character a severe fear of getting married and of people not loving her for who she is. I’m trying to find a way to have this in my story in a sensitive manner that won’t freak out children or traumatise them — because my book is meant to be for 10 up.

                  The end of a story, a beautiful picture; a feeling of longing yet hope~
                  That’s my wish to create.

                    @trahia-the-minstrel

                    Definitely a lot of trauma. Enough that although he is only about four at the time, he has some pretty vivid memories still, at around 15 years of age.

                    That makes sense. He will definitely deal with fear of those things, and I think that maybe it’s one more reason he is afraid to help lead in the Retaking; if he associates that horror with “politics”.

                    Oh, sorry to hear that, but it sure is true. We never see things the same after connecting them with a negative experience.

                    Which is the sole reason my twin sister doesn’t like clam chowder or hot ovens.

                    Oh dear! We authors are strange indeed, on the verge of being cruel. 😉 But that sounds like it holds lots of potential!

                      @elishavet-pidyon @trahia-the-minstrel Your stories sound interesting! And yes, we can be so mean to our characters.

                      Like, literally taking two of the character’s best friends from her in the course of two days, and then killing off another in a story that happens a few years later.

                      Or making a fanfiction character’s dad the main villain of the original story, and then making the character suffer through watching his dad kill his mom for leaving because she saw what he was doing to their world…..That all happens before the story starts, but it still affects him.

                      Is it weird that it’s kind of fun to torture characters?

                        Thanks!

                        And yes, but it’s all for their own good, right?

                        Wow, how awfully specific. XD That sounds interesting though.

                        Oh but yes! Back stories are some powerful things. The fire happens before the book too, but much of the story will be coming into those places of fear and shining the Light on them (totally acting like I didn’t just realize that.)

                          @elishavet-pidyon I know. Feather and Reed totally didn’t deserve what happened to them, but still….I mean, it was already written out for them because they were both from fanfics, and although they were both OCs they were closely linked to the original stories (they came from two separate ones).

                                I made a collage for Alyona, but I don’t know if it’s done or not. I might still share it as is….

                                ….hmmm…..

                                If I do, should it be the all English one, or the one with Hebrew? (Eishlagair is not Hebrew, but it’s not developed enough to use in a collage… Then of course there’s the keyboard problem. Eishlagair doesn’t use the Latin alphabet. Or any “real” alphabet. It doesn’t even have an alphabet developed yet. XD)
