Hello! I would like to introduce myself. I am QuicksilverWyvern, a Christian fantasy author striving to someday become published and eventually a business-owner. My hobbies include a little bit of everything creative, but my true expertise is in writing–all my other hobbies seem to stem from my writing in fact. This last summer I finished my first full-length original novel and right now I am working on a new book until I have time during the winter holidays to start draft two of my completed novel. Besides my writing projects, I’m also working on a comic, a D&D campaign, and dabbling when I can with crafting a metroidvania style platformer (emphasis on the boss fights.) When I’m not being a workaholic or playing health issue roulette, I enjoy reading, spending time with friends and family, and playing video games. I typically write epic fantasy with elements of Sci-Fi, Steampunk, Wulxia, or Shenxia (the last two are forms of Chinese fantasy genres) aimed for YA to Adult readers.

To get to talk to Christian creatives in my walk of life seems like a dream come true. I can’t wait to get to know and talk to you guys about writing!

Hello hello! I’m so glad you’ve gotten on KP at last!

I’m Ellette! I’m an author if fantasy, dystopian, and Historical fiction for middle grade, YA, and adults. I am also the owner of a publishing company, a content editor, and an artist/graphic designer.

What are some of your top favorite fantasy books?

If you could pick to spend a week with one of your characters, who would it be, and why?

If you could be siblings with any book character (not your own books) who would it be and why?

        So glad to have you!

Welcome to Kingdom Pen! I’m a writer of middle-grade and youth fiction, sometimes poet, full-time university student, history/culture nerd, and hand-crafting enthusiast.

Congratulations on finishing a draft! That’s a huge milestone. I declare you deserving of cheesecake (if you like cheesecake. Otherwise I’ll eat it myself, thank you).

I have two important Ask-The-Newbie questions:

          • If you could own a horse for life, or ride a dragon for a day, which would you choose?
          • Do Jellybeans qualify as food?

A cup of tea is cheaper than therapy.

            1. I’d say my favorite top fantasy books would have to be the Mistborn trilogy, Harry Potter, and though I have yet to finish the whole series, Lord of the Rings.

            2. I would love to spend a week a week with the protagonist of my finished novel, Qinien. He’s really talented in art and music, and I’d love some technique advice from him!

            3. Ooo, this is a really hard question. I think it would have to be this guy named Peck from the Swipe series. He’s really competent and knows how to get things done–I think we’d get along well.

Ooo, yes, cheesecake. It’s one of my favorite desserts! And no, I’m not sharing (silly distrustful face.) Joking. Of course I’d share it.

              1. Probably ride a dragon for a day. Never going to get that opportunity again, though, yes, I would be screaming through the entire ride.

              2. According the first definition in the Merriam Webster dictionary, food is “material consisting essentially of protein, carbohydrate, and fat used in the body of an organism to sustain growth, repair, and vital processes and to furnish energy.” While too many jellybeans can send me on a sugar high, and subsequently crash, I don’t think I could sustain growth, or repair, or vital processes on them. Therefore I deem jellybeans not food. But you can still eat them. That’s a bit confusing.

                Welcome QuicksilverWyvern!

So cool you write Fantasy and want to own your own business! I’m a huge fan of entrepreneurship!

Also so cool how many different creative pursuits you have!

I’m also curious about your “health issue roulette”. My wife had so many health issues for so long and almost died as well until she received healing from Jesus.

How did you hear about Kingdom Pen?

Thanks! I find having different interests gives me ways to take a break from writing primarily and do something else creative for a change. As far as my health issues go, a few years ago I had to get a surgery where a titanium bar was placed in my chest due to skeletal growth issues. This December it’s being taken out. Meanwhile, a year ago I got really sick with a virus, and ever since my stomach has been super sensitive and pretty much stopped digesting properly. It’s healed a lot since last year, especially with the help of medication, but during the months I didn’t have any help it was extremely painful, and still can be quite strenuous at times. It will probably heal, but if it does it can take up to three years to resolve completely.

I honestly can’t really remember where I heard about Kingdom Pen, but it was probably my mom. She listens to a lot of writing podcasts and has writing friends, so if I had to guess the information would have come from something like that.

                    @quicksilverwyvern

Hello noob. You sound cool. :]

I must ask, how would you explain your summer novel, comic, D&D campaign, and metroidvania? Give me a little summary of each one, if you like. Or not. Whatever you would deign to tell a stranger.

It sounds like a challenge to combine steampunk, which is a genre built around retrofuturism and the theme of progress, with genres like Wulxia and Shenxia. Honestly I would pick up a book about that. Just the combination alone could be extremely engaging.

Also, my knee-jerk reaction when you said metroidvania is to ask – are you into Hollow Knight and Silksong? My spidey-senses instantly tingle when I hear that word, and I have to go for the jugular. Or Dead Cells? Ori? You must be a huge nerd about one particular metroidvania game.

This is my exact opinion. I side with this answer, Koshka. The stuff tastes like sugary plastic to me.

Oh, I have to introduce myself. You can see what my name is.

My stories are retrofuturistic or sci-fi fantasy. I’m a collector of fancy words, spoons, thimbles (recently), and cool history facts. I love thrifting and hoarding antiques. I actually just returned from a thrifting spree and I’m a little sour because I left some phonograph cylinders behind.

As a person, people describe me as mysterious in real life, but I’m really not. I just have the brain energy of a goldfish bumping its head against the aquarium glass.

What’s the most recent DnD character you’ve played? (I just started playing the game this year and I’ve encountered some interesting characters. This topic intrigues me. 🤔)

ALSO HI I’M STELLY THE BEAN. We might’ve met on a different forum. I can’t recall. All the people are blending into one messy color in my brain. I see names and all I recall is brown and faint recognition.

Hello! I’d love to share a summary! The book I finished the first draft of this summer is about a young king who, after winning the revolution, was secretly usurped and has been held up in his palace for forty years while his Region Lords try to find a way to rob him of the unique magic powers he has before they end him. The head of the Region Lords is growing impatient however, and the king, Qinien, is running out of time to escape. As of when I start draft 2, Qinien is going kind of insane with the isolation. (He has servants, but they’re all on the Region Lord’s side, so there’s not really anyone to talk to.) That’s the main plotline. There’s three other characters (who are all important as well), but that’s the gist of the book.

My current comic is just a silly little series of chapters inspired by Warrior Cats about this country bumpkin farm cat who ends up helping a group of wild cats. Right now I’m doing the art, but after this next chapter I’ll just be doing the script and paying my sister do the art for sake of time.

The D&D campaign I’m making is for my sister (will be my first time DMing D&D specifically) is going to start out as a fun little adventure where the party is trying to help a large family of halflings start a family-owned restaurant like they always wanted, but will eventually lead into stopping an evil cult from opening a portal to the Plane of Elemental fire to usher in a powerful eldergod into the material realm. I’m thinking there’s probably going to be four “acts” to the campaign, one in the halfling town, one in a city, one in a desert, and one in the Elemental Plane of Fire. Right now I’m doing mainly world-building, but I think I’ve got a strong enough foundation that I can now move on to the basic plotting of the most likely veins the story is going to go.

My metroidvania is about a sort of limbo between life and death where souls who can’t let go and move on yet are sent. There were Sentinels who were supposed to keep the realm in order and keep out the corruption (sin, basically), but turned traitor. When you enter the game, you are thrown into a spectral world full of rogue souls and manifestations of the corruption, and must fight to purge the corruption from Limbodeath (that’s the name of both the place you are in and the game itself.)

I have played all of the metroidvania games you have mentioned. It’s my favorite genre of video game, and I’m always looking for new ones to try out (when my budget can afford it, lol.) I’ve completed Hollow Knight (normal ending, sadly) but now am working towards beating all bosses Radiant mode in Godhome and completing the Fifth Pantheon for the Absolute Radiance ending. I’ve completed the normal ending of Silksong (accidentally, lol, because I pushed the wrong button at the end of the fight instead of the one to get to Act III), but am now working towards the Act III ending. I’ve completed Ori and the Blind Forest, and done all the main objectives in Will of the Wisps, but trying to complete everything before I activate the ending. (Although, I’ll be honest, I haven’t played that one in a while.) I’ve won Deadcells at least once.

As for what metroidvania game I’m really into right now, I saw this review on a website I follow for this game called MIO: Memories in Orbit by an Indie team. I picked it up on sale, and have been exceptionally impressed by it. I’ve completed the regular ending of that one now and am trying to find most of the things I missed before I complete the secret ending. Thus far, I would definitely recommend MIO and put it up there with Hollow Knight and Ori. How they presented the story especially impressed me, as I’m not really the type of person who usually plays for the story (odd for an author, I know.) My favorite part was subtle hints that were dropped I could pick up on and theorize what was going on before the game told me.

                        Anyway, just love metroidvanias.

That’s really cool that you love antiques! We have a huge antique store, and several thrift stores. Nothing beats the thrift store, man.

Love your goldfish description! That was hilarious. People always think I’m a quiet type of person because I’m not very loud with groups of people I don’t know, but I can become quite extroverted in groups I know. I’m also much louder and more talkative in my head, I guess, than I am in real life.

Hi, Stellybean! I know, there’s so many people to get to know here right now. I’m sure it’ll become easier to track in the coming weeks once we’re talking and memorizing users more consistently.

I have two D&D characters for ongoing campaigns I’m in, and one I made for a one-shot last Tuesday I plan to re-use. For that character, I took the meme guy “Hide the Pain Harold” and made him a Cleric, lol. His story was he worked at an elementary school till a kid threw a book at his head and now he has chronic head pain.

My D&D character for one of the on-going campaigns is an overly traumatized wizard snail with a substance abuse warning. He was almost manipulated into slaughtering the entire party by his manipulative assassin-rebel snail girlfriend. He’s been depressed for a long time, but is on the mend now and has bough a self-help manual and has taken up wood carving. He’s the one who the very out of context forum signature I gave myself is from.

The D&D character for the other on-going D&D campaign I’m in is strangely enough compared to the last two a pretty serious guy. He was a soldier till he was captured in war and held in a fortress where he was tortured. He learned magic while in prison and fought his way out, and now he’s a wizard looking to better the world. His personality is pretty stoic.

What are some of your D&D characters? If you have any you’d like to share, of course 🙂

Are you a guy or a gal? I would really like to know.

What kind of business are you interested in for the future?

That’s really cool! I’m currently in my first ever campaign, so it’s just one character (for now 🤭)

I play an elf named Evviva. She saw a wandering bard bring people joy when she was very young, and dedicated herself to learning music and becoming one herself! However… she isn’t very intelligent since she skipped school. She acts like a little child (she actually threw a tantrum yesterday during our session because her instrument broke) but is determined to make friends with everyone. Plus, she was a hermit, so her social skills, while charming in most places, don’t work for her in serious environments.

Nice! Love throwing the tantrum. Doing that stuff in D&D is fun. I really like how you explain how she came by her class. It’s great when backgrounds explain that!

Hello, Liberty! I’m a gal, or preferably a swordswoman. In the future I hope to own an entertainment business that does publishing, games, graphic novels, television, and film. Writing has been my calling ever since I was in elementary school, and my goal in writing is to glorify God through excellent and meticulous craft.
