      @epicaddie2

Well that’s actually an interesting story (okay maybe it’s not interesting) XD.
Actually ancient Russia has a lot to do with my WIP.
Though I love fantasy, I wanted to keep fantasy out of my novel for a few reasons concerning plot, but I needed a place that snowed most of the year (if not all year), was frigidly cold and had certain types of forests.
I set out to research all the places of the world that might work as a setting for my novel and tried Norway, Iceland and other such places. But nothing was working. That was until I finally came up with Russia and after a week of research about its history, flora, fauna, climate, and weather change, everything seemed perfect.
And I continued research on it (actually I still research:) and all about the river trading systems and what kind of ore they had, what kind of cave systems they had, that sort of thing.

And since there is frequent weather change there and since ancient Russia did not often keep (or perhaps lost) documents of its past, there was a lot of creative flexibility.
And from there, I just grew more interested in the ancient, nomadic land that I was researching and it has been my novel’s home ever since.

(Sorry if all that was a tad boring, but anyhow, that’s how I got into ancient Russia).

@epicaddie2 Hiya! It’s great to see another historical writer around here! I *think* I’ve seen you hangin’ around…

Apart from Fawkes, have you got any other favorite books (or authors?)

Also, have you ever read Gone with the Wind? (This is the question that keeps on giving, by the way. 😉 )

I love the sound of your WIP! I am a HUGE fan of the Victorian era!

Anywho…nice meetin’ ya! To keep yourself involved, feel free to share about your WIP in the “WIP Chat” topic, show off character or story aesthetics/collages in the topic “Story/Characters Aesthetics,” share your story playlist in the topic “Playlists,” or ask a question, preferably in an all-too-obviously titled topic! 😉

@issawriter7 Ooh, nice! I’ve heard they’re really good from like… everyone XD I’ll definitely let you know how I like them!

          Hello!

Ooh, I have yet to read Mere Christianity. I can’t wait for that one. My favorite of his books thus far (besides Narnia of course) is probably The Great Divorce. I also really enjoyed Surprised By Joy, his autobiography. It was really good!

You DEFINITELY need to read Fawkes. Personally I really loved the magic system and the symbolism. Brandes’s writing style is really unique, too. And the plot is fantastic XD

@joy-caroline Hi! I really need to read Mere Christianity XD I’ve read Narnia of course and they are fantastic!

Aw, you should pick up piano again! It’s worth it once you get good enough to play harder music 🙂

@abigail-m Wow, that’s actually super cool! It’s awesome that you were able to find the perfect location. I’ve always been kind of interested in the cultures of people in really cold places like Norway and Russia. I’m not sure why XD Someday I’d like to write a story in that setting!

@gracie-j Hi! Ooh, you write HF too? What’s your favorite time period in history?

I certainly do XD C. S. Lewis is one of my new favorite authors. But besides him, I’ve always loved Kate DiCamillo, especially her book Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane.

Hmm…. I don’t think I have? Maybe a long time ago, but definitely not recently XD

Nice meeting you too! Thank you for the warm welcome!

@epicaddie2 Yes! I love pretty much every time period, depending on my mood. I’ve written several books set during the Golden Age of Piracy–but Medieval and Victorian were my first loves! There’s also Regency and the Wild West that hold special places in my heart…and Colonial America…and Biblical fiction…and, yeah, all of them!

Apart from Victorian, have you any other favorite periods?

I’ve got most of C. S. Lewis’s books on my to-read list! I’ve never heard of Kate DiCamillo, though. I’ll have to check her out!

Well, hate to be pushy (@william-starkey would disagree XD), but I do recommend reading GWTW sometime. ‘Tis a delightful historical drama, you know, of epic proportions and such. 🙂

              My pleasure!

@gracie-j I love every single time period you just mentioned XD I’ve been super interested in pirates lately, but more towards the beginning of the 1800s. I’ve yet to write a pirate book yet, though. Soon hopefully! I’ve tried writing a story set in the Wild West but I never finished it.

You should definitely read The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane! It’s a short read because it’s more for middle-grade readers but the story is wonderful.

I’ll add it to my reading list, then! I’m always up for a good HF book.

@epicaddie2 Edward Tulane! I loved that book as a kid! It always made me cry but it was so beautiful…

                      @epicaddie2

I really enjoy it! I mean, I’ve only had the opportunity to read ‘The Magician’s Nephew’ and ‘The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe’ fully, and am currently on ‘The Horse and His Boy’, which has been neat! The only problem I have with Narnia is that I can’t live there XD

Oh, neat! I’ve been writing a long time, too 🙂 First of all, what a coincidence that you had a character also named ‘Lexi’, and secondly, a hamster sidekick sounds awesome. My first-ever story was about peacocks XD

@writerlexi1216 Yes, I wish I could live there too! *cries* It’s probably my favorite fictional world! Have you read Prince Caspian?

Nice! I got the name from a friend at school. I wasn’t very creative with names XD The Lily the hamster was truly an epic sidekick. She even had a cape!

Ooh, a story about peacocks sounds very fun XD

Yes, Norway and Russia is a fantastic places for settings, (I haven’t done Norway yet myself). I’m no professor, but if you ever have any questions about ancient Russia, I might be able to help.

@abigail-m I really want to do some research on Norway. Hopefully I’ll get an idea while learning about it XD And I’ll definitely ask you if/when I ever have questions about ancient Russia. Thanks!

Greetings! Your WIP sounds quite interesting. Are you hoping to publish your work some day?

I too enjoyed Narnia when I first read them at seven years old or so. I am afraid they are the only work of C.S. Lewis that I have read.
