Unfortunately the internet ate my post and your reply before I could pet your dragon. 🙁

*Excitedly interrupts*
YOUR PROJECTS SOUND SO COOL!!!! Also, you have a Messianic character!!! That’s the best thing ever!! I don’t think I’ve e v e r seen one in fiction, especially that period! That’s too awesome, I’m begging you to let me read it one day!
THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!!!! 🥰🥰🥰
Ahh, well…Esther was my sister’s creation, but she was soooo good, I just HAD to put her in Out of Love…after I got permission from her, of course. 😉
It probably won’t be finished for a while (unless God intervenes…) but I’ll be sure to reach out to you and many others when it comes out! 😁😁😁
September 25, 2022 at 5:36 am #118224Welllllll…. Basically the same. XD I love incorporating history to my heart’s content, but not having to worry about being strictly accurate, because if I do write Historical Fiction, I want it to be very accurate.
Oh yess!!! Sometimes I see stuff in ‘historical fiction’ that really makes me cringe with inaccuracy XD
(I loathe it when an author writes historical fiction through a modern bias. Like, certain articles of clothing were necessary! Armor was made to move with you. And what happened to proper behavior? Like, it’s okay to show the truth, but understand that you won’t get it off Wikipedia. Hello?!)
OHMYGOSH YESSSS!!! Like… corsets and stays aren’t the same thing and your ‘liberated special not like other girls’ main character really really needs one as much as anyone else XD Also, tightlacing was RARE.
I once read a book that confused crinolines and bustles. In a regency period. 😬😬 And used stays and corsets interchangeably and acted like tightlacing was the standard *facepalm*
And yes! You can quite literally run an obstacle course in full plate armor, where did this idea of ‘you can hardly move and have to be hoisted onto your horse’ come from?
Oh! I like it. Their faces are equisitly done, and the proportions are beautiful! I struggle with proportions, but they really make or break a picture. You are very talented!
Oh thank you! Oh yesss proportions are HARD! It took me a long time to get relatively good at them!
And yeah, it’s dramatic, but drama is fun to draw. And I love symbolism in pictures.
The lighting looks very natural. Sometimes it seems like the best parts are the hardest ones.
Oh absolutely! I’m glad you like it! 😀
That would be nice! (Paper doesn’t always erase very well. 😬) Different effects and layers would be fun to work with.
It is! It adds a lot to pictures often!!
Then I’ll share them! I really hope they turn out, whenever I get to do them. I’m a little scared they won’t. *Rueful laugh*
That’s always so frustrating when you have a super clear image but you can’t get it onto the page!
The high ages and later ones can be such fun! As one of my WIPs makes blatantly obvious, I have a weakness for knights and castles. XD
It is all interesting! (Especially the little customs and traditions. And clothing, of course. Where would we be without the kirtle and gown?)
Yesss!!! Me too, knights, castles and swords are honestly just the best to write!
Mine too, for the most part, although it does like to wander into more ancient times or maybe spend an afternoon in WWI. 😉 But everyday life is most fascinating. Like I said, I love researching traditions.
Oh me too! It’s interesting to see how many similarities there are despite all the differences!
And speaking of fashion history…
I could definitely rant. I love it, although my interest follows that if my historical interest).
Have you ever sewn a reproduction/period outfit? My sisters and I are working on some American Civil War era outfits, starting with the base layers. (We’ve reached the petticoats by now and are trying to determine what fabrics we will want to get for the dresses themselves.) After this, I want to make a kirtle, mantle, and apron dress, but we’ll see! (I am a bit ambitious.)
OHMYGOSH THAT’S SO COOL!!! Someone who shares my interest in it!!! That’s too awesome!
I kind of have! I’ve never made a full reproduction or period outfit, but I do some history-bounding, so I’ve made period semi-accurate pieces I just wear day-to-day! They’re not completely accurate, but often the patterns are historical or the styling is!
You have to tell me all about your project! Are you planning to use crinolines? Are you going to make stays?
I’ve made a few 18th century shirts, with the wide billowy sleeves from a time accurate pattern. They’re so comfortable and awesome!
I’m planning to make a chemise soon, and maybe a pair of 18th century stays! I’m really excited about that!
It was a lot of fun. I think the villains were snakes, weasels, and stoats. XD
Oh that’s too fun!
MY FAVORITE CHARACTER IS PROBABLY WILL OR HALT! Oh! Or GILLAIN, OR… Although, I’ve only read through till The Battle for Skandia, so I haven’t met a ton of characters.
Yessss they’re the best!!! I love Halt LOL Oh I’ll have to be careful with spoilers, but I really hope you enjoy the books! Ahh, reading them for the first time is quite an experience!
But my twin sister and I have created a sort of fanfiction that combined Araluen Rangers and Middle Earth Rangers (but not Skreein Rangers, lol.) We called it The Ranger’s Last Apprentice.
Loll that’s too cool! That would be so fun!
September 26, 2022 at 2:42 am #118257Ooo, the main characters. Well, Gillory is the heroine, and she’s an ISFP, Enneagram 3. (She’s 21 and the oldest of five kids.) She’s very ambitious and wants to be the best she can be as a seamstress and as a pianist, which translates into her being very *coughs* overly image-conscious, aware of how she’s coming across to the public, and looking for others’ approval. Basically, thinking she can earn love through her accomplishments. But she also has this more hidden side of her that just loves the simple things of life, like the smell of roses and rainbows after a storm.
Awww, I love her already! She sounds a LOT like one of my MC’s, Ophelia, an ESFP type 3, so really close! I think just for that reason I adore Gillory already! Characters like that are too fun to write!
When Ean (the hero 😉 ) first meets Gillory, he sees that more suppressed side of her, and is intrigued by it. He’s an ESTJ, Enneagram 8, and grew up an orphan. He has very direct (yet friendly) and assertive personality, but he’s very private about his personal life. He and his friend Warren fought in WWII and when he lost Warren in a tragic turn of events near the end of the war, Ean returned to England, never the same. He found work at a hotel and “tried” to put the past behind him, but guilt over his friend’s death has turned his life into a spiral of general self-hatred and even though he’s a Christian, he doesn’t understand why God would’ve let that happen.
Ohhh that’s such a sad backstory! I love him already, and I can’t wait to see how he and Gillory end up together, they sound like they have great chemistry and complement each other really well!
The other prominent characters include Gillory’s family (especially her sister Laura and her parents), a guy named Karl, and Joseph, Ean’s friend. Lol, several new characters are beginning to worm their way into the story, so I may yet end up with more surprise characters. XDD
Loll I know that feeling, side characters always keep interrupting and barging in XD
Hope that didn’t bore you, hahaha! But it was so nice to rant a bit about my charries! 😉 😂 It kinda puts the whole story into perspective.
Of course not! I loved hearing about it, your story sounds so interesting! Is it mostly centered around the romance or does it have an outside plot too?
Do you have a favorite original character?
Oh SO many I couldn’t possibly choose XD But I can tell you about the main characters of Gilded Blood and Murder of Swans, they’re two of my favorites!
GB’s protagonist is the aforementioned princess with a love of setting things on fire, she’s called Liorah. She’s an ESFP type 8. She’s rather defiant, fiercely independent, but just as loyal. She’s hard to get along with but incredibly determined. She’s very close to her older brother, Gavril. At the start of the book, he’s placed in danger, and Liorah has to do everything she can to get him back.
MoS’ protagonist is Ophelia Schwann, she’s studying to be a ballerina, and she’s an ESFP type 3. (Idk why I have two ESFP protagonists but here we are XD) She’s kind of scatterbrained and comes off as pretty shallow, but it’s mostly because she’s gotten so fixated on being pretty and popular so she’ll be liked. She kind of has the persona of a dumb blonde because she feels like it’s the only way she’ll get attention and be liked. She’s really sweet and well-intentioned, she just isn’t coping well XD
She’s really attached to her best friend, Athena, and kind of functions as her sidekick.
I could go on and on about them but I’ll spare you all the details XD

Ugh I hate it when that happens!
my story would be sunset colors! Or if moonlight was a color, I’d pick that lol. what color is yours?
Ooohh that’s so pretty! I can totally see that! Hmm, GB is gold and red and a little aquamarine I think!
September 26, 2022 at 2:49 am #118259Okay okay okay, this is totally random, but… hi! *Waves awkardly*

Oh absolutely, Esther sounds SOOO cool!! I’m Messianic and I’ve rarely if ever seen a character like that, especially in historical fiction! Idk if you’re messianic as well, but if you have any questions/research I would be happy to help! It sounds too cool, I love it!

@rose-everdeen. Why, thank you! Really!? GIRL…THAT’S AMAZING!!!!!
Heh…XD I’m not. XDXDXD I’m a Christian, but I am a mixture of Irish, Scottish, German, and Italian, and possibly a few others. XDXDXD
I will be sure to reach out! I wouldn’t say I have too many specific questions, but I do have one. So…since you’re Messianic, do you still celebrate the Jewish holidays, or at least some of them? And now that you’re Messianic, do they take on a whole new meaning for you? 🙂
September 26, 2022 at 5:15 pm #118293Awww, I love her already! She sounds a LOT like one of my MC’s, Ophelia, an ESFP type 3, so really close! I think just for that reason I adore Gillory already! Characters like that are too fun to write!
Ahhhh thank you!!!! Oo, so cool! *reads about Ophelia* GIRL YES. They do sound similar!!! Exactly, characters like that are so fun to write. 😀
Ohhh that’s such a sad backstory! I love him already, and I can’t wait to see how he and Gillory end up together, they sound like they have great chemistry and complement each other really well!
*sobs* I knowwww! Aww, thank you!!! I think so! *winks*
Of course not! I loved hearing about it, your story sounds so interesting! Is it mostly centered around the romance or does it have an outside plot too?
Hmmm… I’d say it’s mainly centered on the romance, but there are several subplots outside of that too. (Though it’s hard to know what to categorize as the romance and what’s just the character’s personal struggles and whatever unrelated to that. XDD) There’s also a sort of suspense plot line, so that’s why I’m calling it historical romantic suspense. 😉

(I’m sorryyyy, I know it’s so hard to choose… that was a treasonous question for me to ask you. *apologizes profusely* 😭 XDD) AHHHHH!!!! Two ESFPs… I love it!! And I love them already! (I wrote a short story with an ESFP main character, and it was so fun, maybe cause I’m an INFP and ESFPs are pretty different from me, lol.) How cool that Ophelia’s studying to be a ballerina! Aww, poor girl. She sounds so sweet! And Enneagram 8 characters intrigue me, so Liorah sounds just as interesting. And their names are lovely! 😀

Why, thank you! Really!? GIRL…THAT’S AMAZING!!!!!
Heh…XD I’m not. XDXDXD I’m a Christian, but I am a mixture of Irish, Scottish, German, and Italian, and possibly a few others. XDXDXD
Oh that’s super cool! I actually don’t have any Jewish heritage, I’m just vaguely European, mainly German and Belgian I believe XD My parents were some flavor of protestant until they converted, and I’ve been Messianic my whole life!
I will be sure to reach out! I wouldn’t say I have too many specific questions, but I do have one. So…since you’re Messianic, do you still celebrate the Jewish holidays, or at least some of them? And now that you’re Messianic, do they take on a whole new meaning for you?
Okay this I can answer! Just to get a few definitions out of the way for the sake of clarity!
I’m defining Messianic as ‘believing that salvation comes through Jesus Christ alone, but also believing that the Old Testament commandments haven’t been revoked and that we’re still commanded to follow them to the best of our abilities.’
So, short answer, yes and yes!
The more complex answer is that Messianics fall across a wide spectrum from ‘closer to Christian’ to ‘closer to Jewish’. The earlier definition counts for all of them, but within that, there are a LOT of differences.
However, most follow at least some of the Biblical feasts. There’s a distinction between the Biblical feasts and the Jewish feasts though.
The Biblical ones would be those commanded in the Old Testament, so Sukkot (Feast of booths), Yom Teruah (Feast of Trumpets), Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement), Pesach (Passover) Shavuot (Feast of Weeks), and so on, I might have missed a few more minot ones XD
The Jewish ones are the other ones, like Purim, Rosh Hashana, Channuka, and more of those.
Personally, we only celebrate those commanded in the bible, but I have plenty of Messianic friends who celebrate the Jewish feasts as well! Some do, some don’t, but most celebrate at least the Biblical ones. The Jewish feasts are optional, and many people do choose to celebrate them, and that’s awesome for them!
Besides that, most Messianics don’t celebrate Christmas, Easter, or other Christian holidays. Thanksgiving is more of a gray area, many do and many don’t XD
We’ve been celebrating the biblical feasts since I was little, and I have a lot of fond memories of them, probably like Christians do with Christmas and Thanksgiving and the like!
Okay, as for the second part of your question, that’s also a hard yes!
Jesus plays into the feasts in a lot of different ways, especially as he was the fulfillment of prophecy for so many of them! I think the best example I can think of would be Pesach!
After all, Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice for our sins, and His death took place on Pesach. He’s our freedom from sin, just as the exodus was freedom from Egypt. Pesach commemorates His death in a similar way that Easter does for Christians, besides commemorating the exodus.
There are similar things that happen with other feasts, but I’d say this is the most obvious example.
This is one of those things that I love to share and ramble about, so feel free to ask me any questions that occur to you!
September 27, 2022 at 6:20 am #118331Ahhhh thank you!!!! Oo, so cool! *reads about Ophelia* GIRL YES. They do sound similar!!! Exactly, characters like that are so fun to write. 😀
They’re just the best, they have such an interesting internal struggle with constant insecurity but also this ambitious drive! It gives them a lot of inherent agency and conflict, besides an interesting way they interact with other characters!
*sobs* I knowwww! Aww, thank you!!! I think so! *winks*
Romances where the characters contrast yet complement each other are just SO fun to write! I generally enjoy writing romance, I have two romantic sub-plots in GB, and they’re just so so adorable I could melt into a puddle of happiness XD The characters need it after the… *ahem* somewhat traumatic events of the books. XD
Oh that’s a fun genre!! I know what you mean, romances often have personal struggles and development so interwoven in them you can’t separate the two! Honestly, I consider that an excellent thing XD
AHHHHH!!!! Two ESFPs… I love it!! And I love them already! (I wrote a short story with an ESFP main character, and it was so fun, maybe cause I’m an INFP and ESFPs are pretty different from me, lol.)
LOLLL s a m e! I’m an INFJ and they’re so vastly different from me but maybe that makes it easier to write? Idk XD I’m so glad you like them!!
How cool that Ophelia’s studying to be a ballerina! Aww, poor girl. She sounds so sweet! And Enneagram 8 characters intrigue me, so Liorah sounds just as interesting. And their names are lovely!
She IS!!! she’s one of the sweetest characters I’ve ever written, and I love her for that! The sweet, girly characters seldom get to be the MC’s, in my experience, and that’s a pity because I love them!
Liorah is rather the opposite LOLLL she’s… Ugh, how do I describe her. She’s a brat (affectionate) I feel like half my writing process is running after her, furiously taking notes to keep documenting all the dumb stuff she’s doing or internally screaming at her for it XD She has what I may describe as ‘an excess of agency’ where I have completely lost control over what she’s doing XD Honestly makes it twice as fun to write XD
And oohhh yes her Type-8-ness is extremely obvious XD
I’m so glad you like the names, Ophelia started out as a placeholder, but then I started to like it and stuck with it XD

@rose-everdeen. That is so interesting!!!!
Most Messianics don’t celebrate Christmas, Easter, or other Christian holidays. Thanksgiving is more of a gray area, many do and many don’t.
You know…I never thought of that! XD I never thought that maybe y’all don’t celebrate the Christian holidays! Thanks! And also…I just realized that Esther’s not the only messianic one. Leon is too! (the Jewish man mentioned for Freedom’s Fire) He celebrates the Christian holidays tho…for one reason being that his wife is German, not Jewish, and Esther likely will as well, since she marries an American soldier. XD
But I never thought of that! Thank you!
September 27, 2022 at 1:54 pm #118350@rose-everdeen
Aaahhh, they sound SO interesting!!! If you ever end up publishing it, I want to read it!! 😉 😀 <3AWWW!!! Adorable romances where you melt into a puddle are the best!!
So cool you’re an INFJ!! You know what, I think so too… characters opposite from me are often easy to write because I don’t have my own personality coloring the character’s, whereas characters similar to me I have to hunt for the differences and really make sure I know their personalities and aren’t just assigning a version of me to them. If that makes any sense at all LOL. Plus, I can just have them do the opposite thing I would. 🤣 (Haha I’m kinda kidding!)
YES! Those sweet girly characters are usually the side characters, in my experience, so good for you, giving them some main character rep! 😉 Augh, yes, I love them too. Lol, Liorah sounds like SO much fun to write. My Enneagram 8 character, Ean, is a little different in that he’s not dragging me after him… he’s a little more apathetic in general than your typical Enneagram 8 (but that’s cause he’s not a healthy 8 😬 😅).

You know…I never thought of that! XD I never thought that maybe y’all don’t celebrate the Christian holidays! Thanks!
Awesome, I’m glad I could help!
XD
Oh that’s interesting! I want to add that switching a character from Jewish to Messianic is a MAJOR change, and will probably impact your plot in many ways. Mainly, once he’s accepted Christ, he’ll most likely be seen as a convert to Christianity, no matter what he still follows or believes. Messianics are closer to a Christian denomination than a sub-category of Judaism, though I usually describe it as a separate religion that overlaps with both.
That will probably impact the plot quite a bit, it’s even the question if he’ll be put in a concentration camp. Plus it will color every interaction, besides making a ton of research. So, just a warning, that could derail your whole plot because it’s a significant change 😀
He celebrates the Christian holidays tho…for one reason being that his wife is German, not Jewish, and Esther likely will as well, since she marries an American soldier. XD
That’s also perfectly possible!
Anyway I hope this helped some!
