We already have a short story contest strand, but I think flash fiction is distinct enough within the short story genre. Plus some of us gravitate towards shorter writing periods, with more intense focus on word usage and style
I know I’m less stressed about writing flash fiction because it’s not like I have to edit a lot of words. I can just focus on the poetic bits.
This is where people write from prompts, and a judge declares a winner.
Here are the rules. Very similar to Rae’s topic! (So credit to @rae for inspiration, as well as @koshka for challenging someone in another thread!)
1. There may be an unlimited number of participants since it’s shorter to read.
2. Judges may not have bias.
3. No reading other people’s entries before the game is over.
4. You may play around with genre and stylistic elements in any way you like, unless stated by the prompt.
5. The judge will be determined by the last winner, so if you compete, be ready to win and give the next prompt. If you need ideas or you don’t want to judge, I can help with that.
6. SPECIAL EXTRA RULE. Word counts should typically be under 500 words. Super short! There may be exceptions, but try to keep things short. Each judge can choose a specific word limit if they’d like.
7. Follow KP guidelines.
And that’s about it! Hopefully this and the other short story topic won’t be at odds with each other or confuse people. :]

December 4, 2024 at 4:42 pm #190940First prompt:
Write about a ghost. It doesn’t matter what kind of ghost it is – that of a person, a time, or a dream.
Your limit is 500 words. You have until December 10th.

December 4, 2024 at 4:54 pm #190948Yep! In fact I bet that would be less of a hassle, you wouldn’t have to bother with making documents available.

December 4, 2024 at 5:42 pm #190954Excuse my ignorance, but what’s the difference between flash fiction and short stories?

December 4, 2024 at 6:38 pm #190965For some reason, I’m not getting emails when you tag me. ?
I meant should we wait a little longer, or is it okay if I post mine now?
