Leo
The filing cabinet bit into his leg as he sat down.
“What? No. Well…” Now that definitely wasn’t a way he’d ever thought to view the end of the world. He decided to treat this like one of Quincy’s questions…or like Silvia’s many years ago. “I’m guessing they never let you study astronomy. So in the beginning of everything, God created the stars. He made them and placed them in outer space exactly where He wanted them. The Sun is a star which God put at the center of the solar system, around which the planets revolve. Stars and planets are natural, part of creation. So I guess God controls their off switch.”
“Nuclear fission is just a natural process that God made for the stars to produce light. It’s very powerful. We’ve learned to recreate it in very small ways in order to harvest energy…some of which has been used to build bombs.”

Sorry if I caused this research rabbit hole, but also not. That’s really cool.

He blinked. Smiled.
“No. Here, let me show you.” He turned sideways in his seat to open the filing drawer, pulled out a worn backpack, and settled back in place. It took a minute for him to get the zipper open, but it finally gave enough for him to slip his hand in and find his Bible. It was worn nearly as much as the backpack and many of the plastic pages had ragged edges. He opened it to the first page of Genesis and handed it to Rory.
“Start at In the Beginning. I’ll explain as you go. Don’t bother reading the numbers. They’re pretty much just there to help readers keep their place.”

He took the book in his hands, looking at it with interest. All of his reading had been done on a datapad. He tapped the surface to see what would happen. When nothing changed, he lifted the page and turned it over, surprised to find more words. Looking down at the words, he cleared his throat and read slowly. “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.” He looked up at Leo, waiting for an explanation.

Why would you apologize for that. This is really fun XD
I have also decided that the twins’ species mostly use solar energy, while the aquatic species that shares their planet uses tidal and geothermal energy.

A soft smile was tugging up the corner of his mouth. This kid knew so little of everything that really mattered. An ache burrowed deep in Leo’s chest.
“In the Beginning God created. That’s the beginning of time. God made that. But that isn’t all. He also made the heavens and the earth–space and matter. The earth wasn’t formed yet, and was empty of all life or order, and space had no light. But God was there. What’s next?”

Rory
He looked down at the page, still thinking over what Leo had said. “And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.”
(It’s quite fun seeing how you/Leo explain this to someone who literally knows nothing about it)
