You could read his story if you wanted. You never replied after the last chapter I sent.
But you might not like it.Rory
Rory blinked at the shattered pieces. “Jigsaw puzzle?”
He clenched and unclenched his gloved hands. He was still getting over the water incident. Leo acted like it was all normal, but Rory had never seen anything out of place of malfunctioning before. He looked at Leo. “What’s a jigsaw puzzle?”

As some of you might have noticed, this is the computer that doesn’t add accent marks. XD
Nadian
It was pretty outside. Nadian pressed her nose against the window pane. For a moment, the black irises in the bed below the window were crystal clear. Then she exhaled, and the glass fogged up. It was funny. She giggled and moved to another pane.
“Nadi, what are you doing?” Her sister had snuck up behind her. Nadian jumped to her feet and spun around, black curls tumbling across her shoulders.
Alyona still held a comb. Nadian shrank back against the wall, her face in a pout.
“My hair is fine.”
“No, it’s tangled. If you don’t let me comb it out, it will rat again. Come on.” Alyona held out a hand. Nadian stared a it for a full minute before reaching out and putting her little one into it. Alyona smiled.
They walked back to the bathroom where Nadian pulled herself up onto the counter. A small army of detangler and leave in conditioners spread out beside her. Nadian took a bottle and held it out to her sister.
The battle began.

“Good question.” He sat back on his heels and reached for another broken piece. “I think it’s some sort of game, or at least that’s what a friend of mine said. You have a picture that’s been cut up into a lot of pieces, and you have to put the pieces together to see the full picture. Or something like that.”
He rearranged the pieces in the gaping hole of missing tile until he found two that seemed to fit together.
“It’s something they do on Sordes. Weird, huh?”

Rory stared at him. “Is it kind of like tactics? You know, attack plans. The officers organize all the troops so that they can effortlessly wipe out the target.” He paused and chewed on his lower lip. “Maybe not…”

“Eh, maybe.” He looked up, eyebrows bunching together. “Except the plan is to get everything to fit perfectly together. So, maybe.”
He settled another piece in place. One tile was coming together quite nicely.
“I’d think of it more like fitting a bomb shell with it’s cordinants. All the bits have to be just so, or your shell won’t go off. Are these all the pieces?”
He glanced down the hall, wondering how he’d fill the gaps. Maybe aluminum…

Rory’s eyebrows went up. “You build bombs?”
He dropped to his knees beside Leo and instantly recoiled with a stifled gasp of pain. He quickly shifted to a sitting position, absently rubbing his injured knee. Something sharp pricked his other hand and he held up a thin shard. “I found another.”

@everyone
I want to update Marcel/Mateo/Celarent in a bit, but I am at a Southeast-wide presbytery meeting, and right now, my only purpose in life is to refill food and water pitchers for everybody. It’s worth it. XD But due to my responsibilities, please wait for me to proceed.

“Ah! Many thanks. You didn’t cut yourself, did you?”
Rory looked down at his gloved hands and shrugged. Leo carefully picked up the shard. It slipped in place, filling the largest gap.
Maybe he wouldn’t need aluminum alloy after all. Which was good. He’d have had to leave Rory here guarding their work to go find some, and leaving the kid anywhere didn’t seem…wise. He had a back for getting into pickles.
“Do you?” The question was soft. Leo looked up and met the kid’s questioning gaze.
He gave a soft smile.
“I did. As an apprentice engineer, I built and designed a lot of…stuff.” He looked back at the shattered tile. His voice was quiet. “Bombs, guns, ships, arms, anything really. My last year I spent mostly designing and rebuilding aerospace ships.”
Particularly energy shields, or rather, what was supposed to be shields. Should have been.
He nudged another shard in place. “Looks like we’ve got most of this. Ready for a blowtorch?”

Love that!
Rory
Rory winced slightly at the list Leo had rattled off. He’d used just about every one of those things. And the memories that accompanied the usage were bad. Very bad.
“Looks like we’ve got most of this. Ready for a blowtorch?” Leo asked.
Rory looked at him uneasily. “Maybe…. what are you going to do with it?”

“Are you ok?” Viktor gave a nervous glance back toward the group they had passed. If he hadn’t been so distracted by the posters on the bulletin board, he might have realized Hugo had been detained.
But Hugo just nodded and said something about unnatural impulses. They were entering another crowd of students outside the Science Hall. Viktor ducked along with the other two boys, glad to be a part of a group.
“It’s just ahead.” One of the boys muttered as they cut past a set of swarmed water fountains.

“We’re going to fix this tile.”
He opened the bottle of sealant and carefully poured it into the cracks between shards. It pooled over the tile in a nice, whitish gloup. Using a paint scraper from his belt, Leo spread the stuff out until both broken tiles were covered in an even layer.
“This stuff will set up hard as steel with the right amount of heat. I’ve used this stuff on pretty much everything. Silvia made it.”
The small blowtorch felt good in his hands. An old friend. He and looked over at Rory with a bright smile. “You may want to back up a tad. This gets hot.”

Rory slid back, but his eyes were locked on Leo’s hands in a half memorized, half terrified stare. There was a very bad memory at the edge of his mind, and he didn’t know what it was, but he really didn’t want it let out.
