I uh…found myself with a few minutes of down time and decided to try logging in again and again to see if I got through.

Benny and Brea (the library)
Benny cocked his head to one side, then shook it, ears flapping.
“That’s just Benny,” Brea said, glancing up slightly from her work. “He’s mostly harmless. I was told this school had plenty of odd things and that he wouldn’t be a problem, but if he bothers you, that’s fine. I can shut him in my sketchbook.”
At that last sentence, Benny did a little surprised jump, then scurried over to hide behind a chair leg.
Leo
He sighed and glanced down at his mug. Empty.
“The school is certainly… complicated. How about we just…” His gaze drifted from Barnes to Rory. Bruises, cuts, scuffs. Rory seemed to be favoring one knee. Barnes, her arm. Leo traced the pattern on the side of his mug.
Yes, Rory could fight. Barnes could too from the look of things. That was good, or could be good. Potential could go either way. His jaw clenched. Relaxed. He looked up.
The other two were watching him intently, waiting. What had he said? Blue stars.
“Eh, Kid. How old are you again? Silvia and Quincy need to go back to school–I can’t school them and work a full time job–but for you…well, you look old enough, older than I was at any rate.”

Rory looked up at Leo. “I’m sixteen. But i get the feeling that age means very different things in different places. I graduated Academy at thirteen. I was made a Lieutenant last year. It’s not the same as some places.” He shrugged. “What does that even matter anyways?”

“Ah, sixteen. I was twelve when I was apprenticed to…to my mentor, but you’re not too old. None of the creeps ever came down to the basement, and if they do try it, it’s not like they’re nothing we can’t handle. Besides,” a grin broke out on his face. “It’ll give me an excuse to wear my suit to work.” Memories of the crawl space under the school flashed by. He shuddered. Really, he should wear the suit more often.
Barnes and Rory were still looking at him, confused. He set down his mug, sucked in a breath, and tried to remember what he hadn’t said.
“How would you like to work with me? It’d be more than school maintenance, but that’s the paying job right now. I have room in the contract for an apprentice mechanic engineer. Silvia can still attend school while we keep and eye on things.” and on you, kid, he mentally added. Sounds like you need more than a body guard.
His eyes softened as he smiled.

For a moment Rory looked at Leo uncertainly. “You mean, you would want me to work with you?”
When Leo nodded, Rory felt as though a terrible wight had been lifted off of him. He let out a long breath, and a smile tugged at the corner of his mouth. “I’d like that.”

Okay, I’m going to move things along a bit because I feel sorry for these poor charies. Feel free to insert whatever you want. =)
Leo
“Good.” His smile widened at the relief in the boy’s eyes. Then he let the smile fade to pull out his no-nonsense voice. “Now that that’s settled, you two need patched up. Like double time.”
He got to his feet to headed for the kitchen, or more specifically for the fist aide kit over the stove. He carried it back and set it on the table.
“We can work out details later. I’m afraid this isn’t as good a kit as I have in air.” He started sorting out the contents onto the table. “Silvia, can you take Quincy to bed?”

Rory glanced over at Barnes, and then back at Leo. Slowly, trying to grasp the concept of the way Leo treated others, he looked at Barnes again. “Um.. she’s first priority. You can take care of her before me.”

Barnes waved a hand for Rory to get patched up first, and stretched to take some paper from the nearby table. “Working with Leo at the school sounds good, I can accept that. As long as I can keep tabs on all registered students. I’ll leave my office number here.”
This had been an extremely painful fiasco, but Barnes bit her lip and ignored her exhaustion. She had a lot to do the next day, and her job would hopefully get better with time.
