You just grabbed Rory?
In all this mess, no one has grabbed him yet. (no one that he doesn’t trust, that is)
This is not going to go well.
(btw, I couldn’t find a full physical description for Barns, but Rory is six-foot two, wiry, and incredibly strong.)
COOL! Another soldier boy! He and Rory will like each other!
(Or kill each other)
@koshka @Whaley @ElishavetRory
The lady grabbed him and dragged him into a shop, pushing the door closed behind them. she shoved him into a corner and leaned close. “Do you really think you’re doing your friends any favors?” She muttered.
Rory had been startled that she had actually caught him, and, what’s more, grabbed him. But he hadn’t been trained as a soldier and killer his whole life for nothing.
The next moment he jerked up and drove his shoulder into her chin. He followed it with a punch to her chest, powering it with his whole body. Then he jerked free and spun. his leg snapped up and he drove his boot into her masked face. Something gave, and Barns fell.
Rory spun again and bolted. He tore open the door and hit the street at a dead run. Flashing around the corner, he tore into an ally. He took another sharp turn and spotted a dumpster. Scrambling onto it, he jumped to the nearest roof. from there he scrambled up and jumped to the next. Then he dropped onto the street again, rolling to save his legs. He was in a quiet street, and he continued to run, but not as frantically as before. Slipping into a side ally, Rory looked up and down. A man was slumped against the wall, a few smashed bottles on the ground next to him.
Rory made a quick decision. Stepping up to the man, he stripped off his coat and held it out. “I’ll swap ya.”
The man looked at him for a moment, and then pulled off his own coat. Rory took it from him, and the man snatched Rory’s. Rory gave a nod and hurried off down another street. The coat reeked and was filthy, but Rory pulled it on anyways. He yanked the hood over his head and stuffed his hands into the pockets. His hand closed over something cold, and Rory pulled it out. It was a knife. Rory switched the blade opened and examined it. Sharp. Good.
Rory shoved the knife back into his pocket and continued on.
It was growing dark, and twilight had already begun. The streets were dark and shadowed, and Rory began to feel uneasy. But, beyond the uneasiness was something else. A feeling of sadness and loss. His shirt was still wet from where Quincy had drooled on it, and he could still remember Leo’s friendly grip on his shoulder and encouraging words. Tears stung Rory’s eyes, but he pressed on.
It was almost all the way dark, and Rory was completely lost. He came to the end of a narrow side street and looked out. There, on the corner, Rory saw something, and his heart leapt. This was a place he knew.

Nooo, bring him back! What is he doing?!
@elishavet-pidyon @whalekeeperOkay y’all, battle plan. Leo is going to be getting off at this next stop with Silvia and Quincy. Those two definitely have had all the violence/stress they can handle, so I’m sending them into the apartment (although Silvia is seriously traumatized RN and is probably not going to respond well to separation, but whatever). Leo can set out to go find Rory (who is seriously scaring Leoron right now). He is accepting help.
Also, please say Barnes is alright. I like her.

So…where is Rory? I confused.
Leo
The pounding feet morphed into a gasping scuffle. Leo clenched his jaw, trying to sort out the sounds.
A muted voice. Mask lady? A door. A few footsteps. More sounds he didn’t want to identify. He grimaced.
A loud smack reverberated over the com unit, then more pounding feet.
Leo groaned. “Blue stars, kid. What are you doing?”
“Lelo?”
He blinked, seeing the bus again and two huge brown eyes staring up at him. Quincy looked on the verge of tears, the necklace edging back into his mouth.
Silvia’s face was white, her hands clenched loosely in her lap. Leo gave a small smile.
“Chin up, sis. We’re almost home.” He put an arm around her shoulders. “I’ll get you a good cup of tea once we’re there.”
“And Rory?”
“I’ll find him, Lord willing.” Somehow. Wherever the kid had got to. Those footsteps in his ear had changed to a rather…alarming pattern. Just don’t fall kid. Please. He sighed, and watched for the next bus stop.

I figured you’d react that way. Hehe.
(btw, I couldn’t find a full physical description for Barns, but Rory is six-foot two, wiry, and incredibly strong.)
Last time I wrote anything in her bio, she was over 6 feet tall. She is experienced physically and has an extremely strong upper body, but she’s not using that strength on Rory, so what you wrote is okay. 👍
Also, please say Barnes is alright. I like her.
You’ll find out in a minute.

So I figured there was still some kind of antagonistic threat (aka Agents). I implied it in this entry, but if Ellette doesn’t want to roll with it, we can figure something else out.
Barnes
He hit her chin, then her chest.
Barnes was surprised at the boy’s combat technique. So surprised, in fact, that she let the fight play out, hands raised. “I’m not here to hurt you. I already told you.”
Rory didn’t reply; instead, he whipped around and struck the woman on the face with his boot. She fell into a rack of velvet jackets. When the pain registered a moment later with a sharp sensation, Barnes paused and let him burst out of the shop. She rubbed her chin thoughtfully, wincing.
The one thing nagging on her mind was that the others could be long gone by now. But Rory was clearly the problem child of the group, so to speak. He was the desperate one, a loose thread pulling away.
Barnes followed the thread.
“I can’t let you leave!” She called after him. “I need to understand what -“
Rory scrambled up an alley of various footholds, and onto the roof. He vanished over the roof tiles.
Barnes blew against her mask, annoyed.
Was this kid even going to hear her out? How scary did she really look, anyway? It wasn’t as if she was doing anything to him.
Adrenaline took over, waxing and waning. This time, Rory pushed himself much further than before. Half the time, Barnes couldn’t see him in the dark streets and turns. The only thing leading her was the distant sound of footsteps and heavy breaths.
This is a child, she kept reminding herself. She pictured a pale, ghostly kid running just in front of her, coaxing her forward. Little footsteps, laughter. A lonely will to be found.
In one last push, she turned a corner.
Rory stood completely still in the middle of the alley, staring at something.
Barnes bent over, coughing. “Look, kid, I…”
An engine revved up, and the car belonging to it turned down the alley and accelerated. The headlights flickered on at the last second, bathing both of them in yellow light. The car barreled towards the boy.
“Rory!” Barnes streaked forward and shoved him forcefully out of the way. There was a sound of slapping against metal. The two flew onto the street.
What in the stars…
Barnes groaned. Pain jolted through her shoulder, and when she reached over, her white blouse was ruined. Small shards of glass stuck in her skin.
She curled up on the ground, her pale hair mingling with the cobblestones.

December 20, 2024 at 11:43 pm #192531@ellette-giselle I don’t know what he’ll think. XD In this RP, Reúven is serving in the “National Guard Civil Reserves”(civil service, so natural disaster response and some military training. He only wears his uniform while on/just off duty.). He’s pursuing his masters in divinity+ ministerial licence so he can join the chaplaincy when he’s 21. If my guess is right, that’s not the military service Rory is used to.
I’ll paste their original intro if you want.
Reúven
The kid turned around a corner and vanished from sight. Reúven turned away with a sigh.
“He’s gone.”
Liora flicked her gaze from the pocket mirror she was fidling with. She might not have spent her later childhood surviving a civil war, but she was by no means a blockhead. He grinned.
“Nothing here, except the oldest boy is worn through and the masked friend went after the runner. You might still see her… What are you smiling at?”
He blinked.
“Is that the mirror Alyona got you?”
She looked down at it as if she had forgotten it was there. She flipped it shut, showing the blue enamel flower on the case.
“Je.” It clicked back open with the slightest touch to the catch. Perfectly fit. Made in days long past.
“Blue stars, kid. What are you doing?”
The two jumped and glanced over their shoulders, forgetting subtleties. The older boy that had been so tired was pressing his fingers to his ear absently, a pained expression on his face.
“Lelo?” the little blonde boy nudged the older one, Lelo apparently. The young man blinked. His hand fell from his ear.
Reúven watched as Lelo studied the little band. The young man had a strange expression on his face. It was familiar, but Reúven was hardly used to seeing it on someone else. The need to protect. Reúven ran a finger over Liora’s mirror.
The group behind them settled back. It was quiet again. But not quiet enough for Reúven to catch the little boy’s whisper. Lelo’s voice was strained when he answered.
“I’ll find him, Lord willing.”
Something twisted in Reúven’s gut. He locked eyes with Liora.
She nodded.

December 21, 2024 at 8:23 am #192543Oh shoot.
why are you doing this to him?!?!?!
I really want him to stop and see if Barnes is okay, but knowing Rory he’s not going to at this moment.
(Sometimes I hate my characters.)
I haven’t decided where Rory is because I was waiting to play off of Barnes’ reaction.
lol. Nope. But he’s still got the military presence.
@Y’all
I have an idea…………
Now that the Agents are back in, I can have them kill Rory!
That would be so awesome and devastating! *evil laughter*
Rory
Rory heard the sound of an engine. Just as he started to turn, light flooded him and the next moment he was thrown to the ground. After that it was all skidding tiers, crashing and cobblestones. Rory’s leg burn and looking down, he saw his pants were torn open from knee to ankle. There was blood on his hands, arm, and leg.
Rory forced himself to ignore the pain and rolled to his feet, coming up in a ready stance, slightly crouched.
There, on the ground, lay the woman.
For a moment Rory felt a wave of relief, but it was quickly replaced by a shock of dread. She was working with the Agents, yes, but Rory hated death like nothing else.
Agents
The car!
Rory whipped about just as someone crashed into him. They both went down. Rory fought wildly, but another Agent pinned him to the street. “Alright now, if you don’t want us to kill you this instant, tell us what you did with the boy.”
What?
“Did you here me? What did you do with our soldier?”
At that instant, it clicked into place. The jacket swap…. they thought he was Leo.
Rory went limp and began whimpering.
“Take him down that ally and thrash the living daylight out of him unless he starts talking,” growled one of the Agents.
The other grabbed the back of Rory’s jacket and forced him to his feet, half dragging him into the ally.
“What do we do with the woman?” Another Agent asked.
“Leave her for now,” was the reply.
In the darkness of the ally, Rory was slammed up against the wall and two punches were thrown into his ribs. He grit his teeth but made no sound.
The next blow caught him in the mouth, and Rory tasted blood. He pushed his hand into his pocket
Hold on, hold on, just a little longer…..
After three more savage blows, Rory slumped to the ground.
The Agent crouched and bent over him. “I have no problem killing you, so I suggest you start talking. Where. Is He?”
Rory snapped open the knife and lunged, driving it at the Agent.
The man jerked sideways and Rory’s knife found his arm just below the shoulder. The man yelled, but Rory slammed a fist into his chin, snapping the Agent’s head back against the wall. Lights out.
Rory yanked the knife free and wiped the blood on his pant leg before snapping it shut. Then, he quietly got to his feet and crept into the darkness. After a few steps, he paused. Somehow, the Agents had tracked him here and were willing to try to run him down because they were that sure he was Leo………. Rory slapped his hand against his ear. The com! Of course! The Agents were on it a little while ago, and though Leo’s safety features had pushed them back off, they still knew the frequency.
Without a second thought, Rory flung the com onto the street and ground it with his heal. Sorry Leo.
Rory took in a deep breath and winced as his chest burned. That Agent had good fists, he’d give him that.
Rory slipped through the darkness and began to run. The pain in his ribs and chest was horribly, and tears flooded his vision, but he pushed on. He couldn’t go back. There was nothing behind him and nothing in front of him. Why don’t you just give up? A voice whispered in his mind.
Rory would have if he knew they would end him quickly.
But they wouldn’t.
That’s all you’re fighting for? Escaping a brutal death? That’s all you have to live for?
Rory shook his head. Yes, yes that’s all I have to live for….. it hardly seems worth it.
Looking up, Rory saw the building he had spotted before the car accident. He glanced back. No pursuit at the moment. That i can hear………
Rory didn’t care. This was his one goal, and after he achieved it, he wouldn’t have much left.
Rory pushed himself hard. His legs went faster, boots pounding the street. At last, he reached it. Slipping through the yards, he came to the back door. Rory opened it and crept inside. Closing the door softly behind him, he crept through the silent rows of benches. Then, he reached it.
Moonlight was streaming through the picture making the whole room dance with soft, peaceful colors. Rory stood just under the picture and looked up at the gentle face of the shepherd. Yet, there was more then gentleness. There was strength, and there was something else. It was the way Leo looked at his siblings.
Rory let himself crumple into a sitting position, his head still turned up. He was sobbing for breath, and the noise seemed wrong in this peaceful place. Rory forced himself to breathe easier.
Pain finally reached his senses and Rory bit his lip, tears flooding his eyes. He sucked in a few breaths and then lowered himself to the floor and buried his head in his arms. His shoulders trembled and Rory sobbed quietly. After a moment, he lay still. This is it. I’m not running any further. There’s nothing left.
A shudder passed through him as he thought of what the Agents would do when they found him. He closed his eyes. Let them come. I can’t run anymore. There’s no point.
(I don’t know how badly Barnes is hurt, but it may be best if she and Leo find him together, because I can’t be responsible for what Rory does if they do catch him at this moment and Leo isn’t there to keep him steady. Or Leo could just find him and then bring him to Barnes. Idk. Do whatever you want.)

I think she is probably just going to stick with it until Rory stops running. Sorry, she’s had to chase too many running people before and doesn’t let them go. XD
Barnes
Barnes recovered herself just in time to see Rory running towards the church building, knife in hand. Behind him, in the darkness, a man slumped over.
Barnes got to her feet and winced. Her shoulder was bleeding. Otherwise, she felt pretty good for having been attacked with a car. She followed Rory, knowing somebody was probably still behind them.
If he runs when I approach, I’ll stay at a distance.
She knelt in front of the church doors, guarding the only way in, and began tying her hair back in a short braid. The glass in her shoulder caught the light, reflecting the blood red back to her in brilliant ruby shades. She picked it out of her shoulder, and wrapped it with the remains of her left sleeve.
She hummed a wedding march song. Her masked face tilted, ever watchful.
Several minutes later, a frustrated sound rose from a block away. They had found the body. Three young men jogged down the small street a ways, before spying Barnes and regrouping.
Without a word, the leader of the small group flicked his hand in Barnes’ direction. His two companions moved to pull her off the top entrance step.
Barnes used their momentum to lunge towards the leader. She swung her body into him and bashed her forehead into his.
The other two hesitated. As the one man stumbled back, Barnes held both her fists up and lilted her voice cheerfully. “Come on, boys, we don’t have all day.”
She squared them off, her back to the church door. An opponent swung his leg up into her stomach, similar to how Rory had nicked Barnes earlier, so she grabbed the leg and hugged it to her body. She whipped the other leg away with her own, and threw the man off balance to the ground.
There wasn’t any time to knock him out. His accomplice was still approaching.
Barnes waited for the right moment, ignoring the pain in her stomach. She pulled her arm back, body coiling like a spring, and let the force crash into his face with a stiff upper cut.
Blood spattered her shirt. And I wanted to restitch the sleeve…
She eyed the two still-conscious people. One clutched his head, growling some choice words into his neck, and the other had just gotten back to his feet.
“Members only take naps at this church.” Barnes shrugged, rolling her shoulders hungrily. I’ve missed this. Shouldn’t go overboard. “Look, boys. I’ve been in this world much longer than you have, and I think this would be a good time for you to lose yourself elsewhere.”

(Now would be a good time for Leo to show up.)
Agents
215 glanced over at his companion. Sure, they were trained killers, but they were a little out of practice. After years of heading interrogations and sending people like Rory to do the dirty work, they were not so eager to risk their own necks.
215 gave a nod to his companion and they took two steps back. “Just you wait, Inferior, we’ll be back, and you’ll regret the day you messed with us,” he threatened. Then he turned to his companion. “Come on, it’s the boy we’re after. Leave the woman to be dealt with later.”
The two turned and hurried off down the street, leaving their unconscious companion behind.Man is born for the fight, to be forged and molded into a sharper, finer, stronger image of God
