Lol. I have a world-class master watching my every move (I still can’t believe it sometimes), and you better bet he pushes everyone on the mat.

        Barnes

Standing behind the children’s bench, holding onto one of the bus poles, Barnes shielded her masked face with a cough as Leo looked around. She didn’t want to start a scene, but frankly there was a very high chance of one of them panicking.

She scanned the bus. No one seemed suspicious. A few men in suits had entered at the last stop, but they carried musicians’ cases and the bus driver seemed to know them. Everyone else looked like normal civilians.

Slowly, Barnes shifted to the side of the bench, and crouched next to Leo, her long gray coat bunching up on the wood floor. The other young man, Rory, visibly flinched, and Leo slipped his hand into his pocket.

Barnes spoke quietly. “Leo and Rory? I’m a friend.”

          Rory

A choking feeling of dread filled Rory and he stumbled to his feet, clutching Quincy to his chest. “Stay back!” he whispered. “Don’t hurt them, please!”

He glanced down the aisle. No one seemed to have noticed his movement. He darted a glance at Leo, his eyes pleading silently. Run Leo! Run!

            Barnes

“Sh, not here.” She noticed the boy’s wide, unnerved gaze. She sighed and held out her school identification card. “I only look scary to ward off the real bad guys.”

The bus screeched to a stop, and the passengers shifted and headed on and off. The little group had an excuse to slip away. Barnes turned to Leo. “What’s the issue? Are you being actively followed?”

              Leo

His gaze flickered to the woman, then to Rory, the gears in his head spinning in a blur. He moved.

But not to run and jump from the bus. His hand shot out to lock on Rory’s arm and anchor the kid in place.

“She’s not an Agent.” But not necessarily a friend, despite her soft words. Just the fact that she knew their names didn’t feel great- but she wasn’t an agent. And she’d called him Leo, not Cam, his radio name that the Agents had overheard.

Not that she couldn’t have seen that name while searching school papers. His eyes narrowed. He glanced at her card.

Then his breath eased out. He let go of Rory’s arm. Lowered his voice.

“Plus, I sure don’t feel up to jumping from a moving bus. What do you mean, Ma’am?”

oh boy. Rory hates you both right now. lololol

                Rory

Rory had jumped when Leo grabbed him, but then the boy let him go and began talking to the woman. He said she wasn’t an agent. Well of course she wasn’t. Rory could have seen that immediately. However, she was someone linked with government, and it looked like she was from the school. She had identification. Normal civilians here didn’t seem to carry that.

Rory couldn’t breathe and his throat was restricting.

Rory closed his eyes tightly. Why couldn’t Leo see it! Why didn’t he run? Rory had to get this woman away from them. He had to draw her and any Agents nearby away from Leo and his siblings. Rory was desperate, and so he let training kick in and acted. Dumping Quincy into Leo’s lap, he turned and bolted.

The last of the people were stepping off the bus, and Rory skidded down the aisle. Grabbing the bar by the door he whipped himself around the corner and leapt.

Rory hit the sidewalk. his legs buckled and he went down on one knee. A second later he was up and running with all the speed he had. “Come on, lady. Try and catch me,” he hissed under his breath.

                  Oh boy indeed.

                  Leo

He knew a second before Quincy landed in his lap that something was about to blow.

The kid was about to bolt. And he had no idea where he was going.

Leo should have kept hold on his arm.

Then Rory was rapidly vanishing down the lorry, leaving Leo with a five year old, his little sister in a bloodstained skirt, and a strange woman he had no clue what to do with. The bus doors closed.

                  Dear God in heaven.

He blinked. Opened the com channel with a tap on his wrist. He could hear Rory’s steady gasping and pounding feet in his ear.

A sharp tug on his shirt forced Leo to look down. Quincy stared up at him, confusion gathering in his wide brown eyes.

                  “Where’s Rorror gone?”

Leo smoothed back the downy blonde hair and sighed. “I – I don’t know Monkey.”

His eyes slid closed as he listened to those pounding feet.

                  What do I do now?

This is random, but I loved the AU backstory my characters had in this RP. And I’m having so much fun reading this Leo+Rory+Barnes drama. They don’t have to interact with my characters, but I would like to “join” if that’s ok.

Most of my RPs for this were pretty secluded/focused on them. I’d like to interact with others, but it doesn’t have to happen often. While they do get in trouble, they have a tendency to avoid it, which kept them out of the plot last time. XD

I’ll have to check, but I think Reúven is 16… Don’t be fooled by his cadet uniform. XD

                        Liora (+intro)

The bus slid to a stop with a loud exhalation from the brakes. The doors swooshed open. For a moment, no one entered, then a heeled shoe was heard on the step. A young woman in a red wool coat slid into the bus. She glanced at the passengers with a shy smile.

A young man in uniform stepped in behind her. His dark hair contrasted starkly with the golden braid wrapped around her head, but as they spoke together their accents matched. He turned to the driver.

                        “Good morning, Mr. Carnegie.”

“Ah. Good morning, Reúven.” The older man held out a hand for the younger to shake. “It’s been a while. Is your car in the shop?”

“Yes sir. The transmission was feeling jumpy.”

“And is this your girlfriend?” A mischievous light danced in Mr. Carnagie’s eyes as he surveyed the young people. The girl flushed and looked down, but Reúven appeared unflappable.

“Oh, no. This is Liora. She’s my fiance.”

A second ticked by. Liora smacked Reúven and the two began to laugh.

“No no. Long time friend. Her father served with mine.”

Me. Carnagie smiled a confused smile. He obviously was not sure which story to believe, but he dropped it. Reúven and Liora sat down toward the back of the bus. His duffel dwarfed her purse, but she moved it off her feet as if it weighed less.

                        “Sorry.”

“It’s all right. Now we’re even after I hit Viktor with that flashlight.”

“You mean twenty pound flood light.”

                        “An overstatement, but sure.”

“I don’t know.” Reúven leaned back in his seat, eyes narrowed. “Offenses toward my cousins are serious.”

“You just called me your fiance in front of a whole crowd of people, then you proceeded to flatten me with your military duffel. I think we’re even.”

At that moment, a kid behind them ran to the exit and jumped. The look of sheer panic on the boy’s face etched itself into Liora’s memory. She gripped Reúven’s sleeve.

                        “Beni. Did you see-”

“Shh.” He took her hand. She stared back at him, startled to see how pale he was. He had seen the boy too. She suddenly wished he hadn’t. Liora gasped for breath and forced herself to calm down. The shadows in Reúven’s eyes were thick.

“I think he was just nervous.” She reached out with her free hand. Subtle movements that the other passengers would not think to notice were paramount. She closed her fingers over the hand that had slid into his pocket.

His hand, reaching for his knife before he thought.

“It’s fine. His friends will look after him. No one here is wearing a bomb. I’m safe.”

She felt his hand relax. The knife slid back into its place without coming out where others would see. Reúven smiled at her.

                        “Thanks. Let’s make sure.”

Liora kept an eye on the group behind them while Reúven pretended to be fascinated with the emergency gear in the window. As long as the Kid stayed behind them, he could watch. It was enough for now.

You just killed me, I almost spit out my lunch 🤣😭 He just YEETED himself out of that bus like there’s no tomorrow

                          Barnes

Rory leapt up, and before anyone could stop him, he barreled out of the bus. He glanced back at Barnes before hurriedly running down the street.

The kid was trying to distract with separation.

Leo seemed strong, but a small hint of his overwhelmed emotions came when he closed his eyes.

Barnes gritted her teeth. She put her hand on his knee, firm. “If you will, wait at the next stop. I gave up on being good with kids long ago, but I can be trusted with your siblings.”

She stood up, tall, her white mask licked with grayish-blond hair. She quickly unclasped a necklace from her chest, dropped it on the toddler boy’s lap, and rushed backwards out of the bus.

Rory ran all the way down the street, in the opposite direction of the bus. Barnes strode with long steps, more speed-walking than running, and stuck to the sidewalk crowds where she wouldn’t look so conspicuous.

When Rory ducked into the crowd, she kept her eyes vaguely focused over it, able to detect his shifting movement whenever he went against the flow. At one point, he stuck with the crowd and disappeared in the middle.

Barnes followed alongside, shedding her coat again as a makeshift change of appearance. Her frilly-sleeved blouse was a far cry from the business-like coat, meaning somebody would have to do a double take to recognize her. It was always helpful to wear contrasting pieces in case she needed a change of pace. She pulled all of her hair out of its tie, so it fell in layers over her mask.

At a key moment, she found Rory and pinned his arm to her side. He began to struggle, panting and trembling a little.

Swift and smooth, she veered him off into the nearest street shop, shoving the door back and swinging him into a corner.

“Do you really think you’re doing your friends any favors?” She muttered.

And just like that, the lady was gone. Leo looked down at Quincy. Sighed. And retrieved the necklace from the five year old’s curious mouth.

“Play with it, don’t eat it. I thought you were past the ‘everything is edible’ stage.”

Quincy squinted at the shiny thing wrapped around his fingers. “Tastes funny.”

“I… didn’t need to know that.” Leo sighed and trailed his finger his through Quincy’s downy fluff. He felt more than heard Silvia’s worried mutter. The footsteps and gasping breaths still pounded in his ear.

His spine twinged. Shoulders tensed. That something was back.

Great. They were being watched again.

Thank you! 🙂 I didn’t explore their friendship much in this RP before, but now y’all get the full benefit. XD

By the way, I’m always a little surprised at people’s reaction to Reúven. His arc was inspired by a character from a historical fiction series who is called a terrorist. And people call Reúven adorable. It’s hilarious, and I love it.
